  • 66,666=perfect omen for Jerry Goldsmith for his oscar.

  • I thought Basil Poledouris dd this.

  • @wingitprod And Poledouris famous theme for Conan ...was a copy of The Wind and the Lion soundtrack, by...Jerry Goldsmith.

Just noticed that some sort of remake is coming. :(

  • @vonbagh Thi is SO Cool cuz this oldSchool!

  • SEE YOU AT THE PARTY, RICHTER!

  • They just don't make cool action movies and soundtracks anymore.

  • "MY NAME IS NOT QUAID!!!"

  • Cohaagen dislikes this.

  • a remake of this (especially with colln phreaeallll) is impossible. today there are no films like this anymore. sadly...

  • @bine1187 And no film composers.

  • you guys know they're doing a remake of this with colin farrell meant to be out in 2012 however, i already know it wont be as good as this, you cant really top this because there was nothing here that could be improved, however i dont think they're doing this kinda story, but the setting i think will be the same and colin farrell as douglas quaid... he dont seem.. manly enough imo i think arnie should have done it since he aint doing shit right now

  • @Brady2k10 are you serious??? colin farrell as quaid??? what a rotten lousy choice. i hate the remake already. who they gonna have for richter - zak efron?

  • my fav film composers are goldsmith, paul hertzog who did kickboxer and bloodsport with van damme, the guy who did star wars and superman cant rmr his name and brad fiedel who done terminator and fright night

  • @Brady2k10 dont forget bernard herrmann

  • I thought the first score the beginning was a spin-off of Conan???

  • @DetroitLove4U Yes it was. Jerry make a tribute to the best soundtrack ever made, Conan the Barbarian by Basil Poledouris.

  • IT'S CONAN-- oh wait.

  • @Zeanu

Glad I'm not the only one to think that.

  • @TK42138 The resemblance in the intro is uncanny, heh.

  • @Zeanu Verhoeven must have used Basil Poledorous' main theme to 'Conan The Barbarian' as the temporary music track before Goldsmith started work. The resemblence is uncanny.

  • ''Open your miiiind....''

  • Talk about Goldsmith outshining the films he scored. No better example of that than Total Recall. Even though I enjoyed the film, this is one of those soundtracks that deserves to be appreciated in its own terms.

  • One of all time fav films

  • Main theme gives me chills every time.

  • This music reminds me that I have remembered the scene.

    The music makes me excited.

  • January-March 2012 in song form

  • @KooturKoot

Total Recall came out in 1990.

  • That music ... so good...

  • I was 16 when I saw this. Paul Verhoeven was coming off Robocop (that blew my mind, had never seen anything like it) and here he was with the then box office champ ready to run amok. Then that driving. awesome score starts up with that cool slideaway text on the opening...oh man, my friends and I were rubbing our hands together - here we go!

    Great times.

  • @Hustle74 wow I was the same ,when I saw it for the first time I was like 10 and I remember this great track and the whole movie set and effects .It was amazing.I love this movie and the music.I still watch it like it is my first time.Jerry is my favorite composer. I cannot explain how I feel when I listen to his music.Great to see people felt like me and still love to listen to his music

  • Jerry Goldsmith is so awesome that he's a dream from Mars!

  • @munitis27 ya te digo jajajaj siempre estara ahi en los previos jajaja

  • Not only one of my favourite Goldsmith scores, one of my favourite film scores of all time......captivates what the entire film was all about, and is a work of art as a piece alone.

  • i'm totally sick of everything sounding the same now. Let start some kind of revolution that makes the media wake up and bring in the fantastic stuff again! This is stunning beyond words. utterly original.

  • One of the best scifi scores of all time.

  • GET YOUR ASS TO MARS...GET YOUR ASS TO MARS...GET YOUR ASS TO MARS...GET YOUR ASS TO MARS...GET YOUR ASS TO MARS...GET YOUR ASS TO MARS...GET YOUR ASS TO MARS...GET YOUR ASS TO MARS...GET YOUR ASS TO MARS...GET YOUR ASS TO MARS...GET YOUR ASS TO MARS...GET YOUR ASS TO MARS...GET YOUR ASS TO MARS...GET YOUR ASS TO MARS...

  • that darn sneeky Jerry Goldsmith...And for all those years I thought this was by Basil Poleduris. Don't get me wrong I love them both. I just never thought that Jerry could get "epic" like that.

  • best scifi. nuff said

  • This is one of the best scores to a film made in the entire history of Western cinema. Excellent job, Mr. Goldsmith! You've created a true classic!

  • such an iconic piece of music big enough to shadow Arnie himself

  • another fantastic soundtrack

  • Eargasm commencing at 0:42

  • ohnoes one of those dayton ohio people sarkasm

  • awesome!!! i love this music

  • I'm just WOW'd by this soundtrack. Some of the best stuff I've heard in a soundtrack. Definitely picking this up. The music kind of reminds me of 'Heroes III: Might & Magic (PC)', which also had a brilliant soundtrack.

  • Classic! Does Anyone Know Where I Can Download The Full Soundtrack For Free?!

  • What a brilliant soundtrack! Jerry Goldsmith was so talented. He along with John Williams and Alan Silvestri are my absolute favorites!

  • This is an awesome movie soundtrack.....it reminds me a bit in the Conan soundtrack.....sounds similiar.

  • Con esta música me viene a la cabeza La Liga Española, fútbol, triplete y poder del Barça, toma ya xD Sobretodo el primer minuto de la música.

  • This is inspired by Anvil of Crom - Basil Poledouris (Conan Soundtrack) .

  • Howdy stranga. Diz iz Howza.

  • best movie ever

  • One of the best themes of all time !!!

  • the best period

  • Greetings, scoretracker,

Oh dear!... Nice, very nice find on Youtube today. Thanks for sharing that! Brilliant idea, brilliant upload about a fabulous Sci-fi/anticipation film signed by one of the most gifted Dutch directors and about a gorgeous Americain soundtrack.

OMG... Soon 6 years Jerry Goldsmith's gone... I just can't realize that. Such a prodigious composer he was... The profession & Cinema remains in mourning.

R.I.P., Jerry... Thanks for what you've done & for your golden imprint.

  • i love jerrys music...its so sad that hes gone....i remember about a week or two after he died i had the total recall soundtrack playing in my car on the way to a job...as i got to the top of a hill there was a low fog below me....i felt as if i was above the clouds and the music from 2.38 was on....i almost cried....ill never forget that moment...

  • classic film

  • Masterpiece! Great film and amazing soundtrack!

  • @marc2789

Most agree and one of my faves since i was 9 back in the summer of 1990. Did you think this movie was The Matrix and Avatar of it's day? afterall those two are similar to TR.

  • @Johnlindsey289 Yes. To bad they are not as great as the past movies. In the good old day the essence was the best. Today its terrible compared to then.

  • @RobinsTaste

But do you think both Matrix and Avatar are similar to TR? afterall Avatar has the similar themes of going into a VR dreamland but don't want to wake up, being on a new planet, meeting a lovely unearthly girl and joining a group of people to rebel against the greedy corporation, even the villain was similar to Cohaagen. Even Matrix was similar to the whole being in a new VR world theme and rebelling theme.

  • @Johnlindsey289 Well yes! The story is similar. Hollywood is very bad in trying to make a different story. I know that I got many ideas that could be new and intressting to test. But I need cash and crew to do that story, something Hollywood got to much of.

  • @RobinsTaste

The Matrix does also have a similar story like TR.

How come you don't piss on the older remakes made in the 80's to early 90s like Scarface, The Thing and The Fly? were those done by talented people who turned old unpopular movies from the 30's and 50's into something better?

  • @Johnlindsey289 To make remakes over movies from that age, like the fifthties was okey during the age people could make good remakes. World of the Wars was a great movie from the 50,s, but the Stephen Spieldberg suck ass compared to the 50,s version. To remake movies that was bad can work by now, in case it's no fx. However dont remake Stephen Kings I, or Jacobs Ladder couse those are cult films.

  • otherwise ill erase your ass

  • Open Your'e Mind! - Kuato

  • See you at the party Richter! ^^

  • Melina: Quaid-- what is it?

Quaid: I don't know melina, some how I am remembering something forgotten in my past, a name, Crom. A sword and a symbol two snakes facing eachother and that name crom. Did this howser ever take along a sword with him to mars?

  • you got alot of nerve showing your face around here Howser...looks whos talking; relax youll live longer

  • Hahahahaha. Win.

  • A kopie of Conan ;-)

  • god!.....this is some amazing shit!.....Goldsmith was incredible!

  • @jucurtis23,

    Better than John Williams.

  • @jucurtis23 yes and out of all the scores goldsmith did, he said he felt this was one of his best, i think so as well

  • I just listened to Conan The Barbarian by Basil Poledouris and it just cannot be a coincidence that the core of main theme introductions is identical. Verhoeven must have temp tracked Total Recall with Poledouris' theme and asked Goldsmith to copy Poledouris' intro. Goldsmith does pretty much abandon the main theme after the main credits which only seems to suggest he wasn't happy with it.

  • Jerry Goldsmith was once told by his mentor Bernard Herrmann: "The music's too good for the picture," and I think that was true here. The movie was so-so, the music brilliant! Thanks for posting.

  • Yes, it was widely misunderstood, even by those working on it! I think the only person who knew what a layered, nuanced masterpiece the film was during production was Verhoeven, who is notoriously just as misunderstood. I love how subversive the film is, it doesn't pander to anybody, and doesnt even allow the pseudo intellectuals who are too protective of their image to use it in their masturbatory posing, haha. It's a flawless satirical bate and switch, fearlessly mocks the safe audience.

  • thanks for posting this...you are a true fan!

  • brilliantly constructed - Goldsmith genius...

  • @Digginjim May he rest in peace. :/
