Picked this up this weekend. My girl says, "Oh I dont like those hoppy beers, I wont like that at all". Takes one smell of it and steals my glass.  Had to open another can for myself. So hoppy, yet so smooth. Awesome beer! Cheers!

have you tried any Fulton, another MN brewery thats doing great things.

Like others have said it sucks that this brewery is so exclusive. Most of the locals in my home state of Indiana are kinda lackluster with only a few notable exceptions. Bad Elmer Porter from Upland, and Sunlight Cream Ale from Sun King were really good, but pretty much everything else is a big meh. I do think part of the problem is that there are so few beer lovers in my hometown that beer sits on the shelf too long and goes stale. I gotta get out of this state....

@capitalistraven Yeah there are a few places around me like that where the beer just sits around and makes me nervous to buy from them. I think unless your in Philly or Cali thats gonna be the case :)

This beer is truly amazing. We just did a tour of the Surly brewery recently and they are a true class act there. This company will grow leaps and bounds due to their attitude and most importantly their amazing tasting beer.

@bwsheppard I have yet to have a bad beer from Surly. I just wish that I could get their stuff more easily haha!

Wow, that sounds like a fantastic IPA! I need to get my hands on this. How would you say this compares to Ruination?

@VideoBeerReviews I think ruination has a much heavier dry finish and more bitterness throughout the overall taste. The abrasive has a huge bitterness in the front but really mellows out with some nice sweetness in the middle and end. It has a dry finish but not as heavy as the Ruination

Nice review. Great beer! Surly Anniversary #5 is coming out shortly too, but I haven't heard what the style is suppose to be. I got another Abrasive four-pack yesterday, because I can't get enough of it.

MN Represent! I'm so glad to live right next to Surly. Four of my favorite beer styles have come from Surly. RIS-Darkness, Cream Stout-Four, IPA-Wet, and DIPA-Abrasive. Can't wait to see you review the Smoke and Darkness! Any chance you will come to this year's Darkness Day? One of the best times I had all last year.

@pesky716 Yah Surly made my favorite wet hope beer last year with WET. Id love to make it out to Darkness day but it all depends on my work schedule. Ill have to check out my weekend schedule next tonight. Darkness day is usually the last weekend in Oct right?

Sounds like Saphir or Pacific Gem

Probably some Citra or Sorachi Ace in there
