  • how do i get such a fucking nice snare sound like his snare ?

  • super sensitive drummer

  • it looks like hees gonna chuck chunnks

  • This is more funk rock than actual funk, still a good lesson.

  • nice job! great stuff

  • 2:51!

  • Take a look at the provided sheet music.

*takes a look at the provided sheet music*

  • Holy shit it's the Sherminator.

  • check out - youtube/lockinmusic

  • cool

  • Love the snare tone!! 14x6/6.5? birch maybe? let me know the specs and wood type, and the tuning!!! been trying to get a warm, focused, fat tone like that, but still having trouble

  • Good drummer but omg his voice is boring, kinda camp and dull at the same time.

  • i know im gonna get a ton of shit for this, but everyone should look up dance gavin dance and listen to their drummer "Matt MIngus" is is a totally underrated drummer who combines funk, punk, hip hop, and metal beats into a really unique style

  • He plays behind the beat.

  • this guy is blazed

  • 0:31

  • kinda off topic question; where did you get your drums and how much where they?

  • I want your drumheads!!!!!! Nice video by the way!

  • WHY IS THERE ARGUMENTS HERE?..... THIS IS AN INSTRUCTIONAL. EVERYONE GROW THE FUCK UP! LOL

  • @jordanjcm ehh i dont lose. i agree that he is doing more then me, only thing is he is really someone who got lucky. his skill has nothing to do with it. granted, he is giving lessons but if you put this guy up with a band setting(big band, funk, latin, etc.) he couldnt do it. you can say im a loser but you wouldnt know. your just some dude on youtube pretending to know what hes talking about.

  • @tildeath67 There is NO need to insult other musicians. Why not appreciate the originality of each others playing ability? It is better to say somemething nice, or give "constructive criticism", instead of just "insulting someone who is just doing their best. I bet you appreciate music more then most people, but that should not lead to puting others down. Peace! ( I called you a loser to show you how wrong it is to insult someone you do not know) I do not really think it

  • @tildeath67 How does Jared have no "feel" when he is teaching a lesson? Check out his solo work on freedrumlessons*com. He's a great drummer, whether you agree or not.

  • @tildeath67 You're a good drummer yourself, but quit being an arrogant little bitch. This is a well produced video with cleanly executed examples and instructions and doesn't cost a dime. You don't need to be trashing someone that put work into something free of charge. If you're so brazen, go ahead and make some of your own instructional videos and get a following of your own. It would at least be more productive.

  • @tildeath67 he really just cant sit in the pocket of the beat, thats not funk!

  • no funk feel whatso ever. i dont get why you would even classify that as funk

  • @tildeath67 He is giving some simple funk beat lessons. Not for you, because you are the best musician in the world. LOL Those are funk beats by the way.

  • @jordanjcm i can safely say im not the best in the world by any stretch of my imagination but i can say im a good enough drummer to spot good ones from bad ones. the lessons are for people like you who consider this "funk" LOL. listen to some lenny white and dave garibaldi for real funk. jackass

  • @tildeath67 "real funk" ? You are not too bright are you? Just because you like it, does not mean it is the only "real funk" . Even though this vid is basic and not up too your high standards, those are still funk beats. Now, go call mommy and ask her why you have no self esteem and then go find someone else that is better then you to insult, that way you feel better about yourself somemore. LOL.

  • @jordanjcm bud, the fact of the matter is this guy has no feel. and after watching your video i feel like my self esteem went up some more. so id like to thank you for that LOL. and you can come back and say "your not great" but fact of the matter is ill do something with my life and play music for a living i couldnt give two shits about some talentless hack like you on youtube. and lets stop fighting over a youtube channel, its pathetic for both of us and no use since we both think we're right.

  • @tildeath67 Well, you can insult people all you want. The FACT is this guy has accomplished way more then you. If not, prove me wrong. Look him up online. (jared falk) Then look yourself up and see who is "doing something with his life" as you say, and "making money" as you say. I bet this guy wins and you LOSE. Then again Losers always seem to HATE winners. That is a fact of life. Losers hate winners.

  • This guy creeps me out!

  • Much cooler than your Odd Time Signature series..

  • do you have like a cold or something ?

you got some stuffy nose up in this vid bro s

  • Napolean Dynamite + Lasik + Hair Gel = White Funk

  • who the hell needs sheet music?

we have ears for a reason!

  • I'm loving it!

I want to learn to build funky patterns with a drum machine because a dear friend wants to prepare a simple bass demo and asked me to do a little drum programming on funky style.

Having the sheets really speed up my homeworks: thanks :)

  • i love funk very much!

  • CHAD SMITH!!!!!

  • lol this guy...so goofy.

  • funk is just another style of rock??

  • @skunkfunkish it is...

  • @mazzepa1 are you fucking kidding me?

  • @skunkfunkish funk 2 (fngk)

    n.

    1. Music

    a. An earthy quality appreciated in music such as jazz or soul.

    b. A type of popular music combining elements of jazz, blues, and soul and characterized by syncopated rhythm and a heavy, repetitive bass line.

hmmm that dictionary definition sounds a lot like a 'style of rock' to me!

  • should u say smthn 'bout ghostnotes and rimshots which are essential for funk?

  • Just call him Mr.S @AuntyMargaret.

  • Good drumming. Not a fan of the snare sound though. Doesn't fit the "FUNK" sound.

  • thease are all very easy beats. pobly a Jr.High schoolers level in difficulty

  • I didnt know napoleon dynamite places the drums!!!

  • canada

  • Were do u find a cheap rythem watch online

  • @ilovechicken12344 Well it's probably easier to find online if you spell the word "rhythm" correctly. Try Craigslist or Amazon.

  • @ilovechicken12344 im sure you can get an app on your phone or computer

  • Were

  • Those cymbals sound beautiful...wish I had me some HHX's XD.

  • You guys talk to much..can u play like hiM??

  • amazing beats but the last one has got to be the best one

  • guys please help, i spent 66 pounds on a zildjian zbt plus rock hi hat pair and they sound fucking terrible, what cheap hi hat would your reccomend? thanks

  • @Mirozenx You pay for what you get when it comes to cymbals bro

  • @kizza55 I could not agree more... goes the same with all audio equipment.

  • wow thats bad ass

  • Thanks for sharing your skill i'm quite new to drumming and your stuff is really helping me.

  • The moral of this story:

"Take a look at the sheet music"

  • he looks like the dude from starship troopers...not the main character

  • @rawfflecakes yeah the dude with the violin

  • Napoleon Dynamite blew my mind with his funk

  • danny carey? tool beats?

  • What if i don't have the provided sheet music?.. lmao.

  • 76 people hate this becoz they are all guitarist..

  • @kumivk03 your cool cause you can spell because with a z

  • Reminds me of that wimpy guy in School of Rock

  • Oh no! Exercises!

  • whats the song on the beginning?

  • This is awesome I can't wait to play them

  • Kinda sounds like one of those quirky buisness men.

  • Funk's just another style of rock? But I hate rock... I'm upset.

  • @royayersrules - Who ever said funk is a style of rock? Maybe it comes from it, but it is a separate genre. There is such a thing as "funk rock", a blend of both. I couldn't exist if both were the same. And why do you hate "rock"? Maybe you should be more openminded and listen to bands you have never heard before.

Of course, if anyone thinks "rock" means listening to "My Chemical Romance" or that Pete Wentz wuss band (whatever its name is) all day long, then anyone would hate it.

  • Wtf is that mouth?!!

  • who needs expert village when we have freedrumlessons. com

  • jared is the best

  • Man this is so good to funk to on the guitar/bass :D

  • @MambozoBenjamin - Indeed. I agree completely. Especially funky bass with slap and pop.

  • @dudecicero Slapping my balls off ;)

  • GO;;`MAKE:,.~BEATS;~,.ONLINE~;,.

  • Kit sounds great! What mics? And was there any drum replacing?

  • when he says its another form of rock i dont think he means it emerged from it, more like its similiar to rock beats.

  • The lesson's great. But i couldn't stop smiling at the idea that he looks and sounds like napoleon dynamite.

  • What kit and cymbals do you use in this video?

  • Good lesson!and yeah Funk is not a thing of color!

  • @Miltangelo One can learn to feel funk. If Robert Fripp can go from being a tone deaf, non-rhythmic teenager to one of the most innovative guitar players of the last 50 years; what's stopping somebody with a sincere desire to learn from accomplishing that. Stop being pretentious.

  • cool

  • 2:10 reminds me of B.Y.O.B.

  • Man!!! I love you lessons!!! thank you!!!

  • Its fun watching white people think they know what funk is

  • @XxZILDJIANxXxREMOxX What I don't think is fun is when people give music a color. Music is universial! We all have ears. What does skin color have to do with music?

  • @Toremanntor Its not color its culture

  • @Toremanntor i don't have ears

  • @Toremanntor true, but 99 percent of rappers are black, 99 percent of country bands are white, techno is an asian favorite, most metal bands are white with a white audience. music kind of does have color, but you can try to get your cool 'im not a racist' points on youtube if you want.

  • @Toremanntor This is so true, there are so many legendery drums that are white : Travis Barker, Lars Ulrich. But in the same sence there are so many good black drums: Aaron Spears, Gerald Heyward

  • @Toremanntor some people see music in colors: sound color synesthesia

  • @Toremanntor You don't get it. When I say, for example, this blues is so white, I don't mean to be racist. It's metaphorical. Since blues was "invented" and played by the black community in USA we could say that the pure and soulful blues is "black", the way they played it. I don't mean to say that white people can't play blues or can't do it as good as black people can. No real music lover attributes races to music styles.

  • @XxZILDJIANxXxREMOxX everybody has some funk in them

  • @XxZILDJIANxXxREMOxX and hes not acting like he knows anything about funk, he's reading sheet music and giving a lesson

  • @XxZILDJIANxXxREMOxX Wow, "white people" It does not matter my friend. Music speaks to, and can be spoken by, all races. In fact, funk beats can be heard in many different cultural settings. The voicing of the Tabla for instance. If I am not mistaken they are not "black"!

Music is in your soul, you just need to listen to your voice. Some here Bach, some hear Hampton. I hear funk too.

  • @XxZILDJIANxXxREMOxX excuse my somewhat racist comment, but you get back what you receive.. It's funny watching black people think they know what cool is... XD

  • @jimihendrixtribute I really don't care what cool is too you (no offense) but i know my culture its a form of expression that comes from hard times and feeling good in the face of problems its still something "blacks" created to express ourselves so excuse me if i care about someone in particular doing a half ass job of something that was made with emotion

  • @XxZILDJIANxXxREMOxX

PLEASE stop trying to act like funk music was a social statement. It was created so your parents could dance around and act like idiots while they were high. Nothing more, nothing less. Also, stop pretending like you're so offended by a White man playing it. He probably knows more about "your people" than you ever will. Where's your funk video? I mean, you care about it so much, right? Let's see you playing the music of your great ancestor Rick James and George Clinton

  • This really isnt that hard but its great practice

  • Can't help but think of Ned Schneebly..

  • @AuntyMargaret Hahaha

    So true mate :P

  • 1:03 sounds like Michael Jackson´s Thriller

  • suck my dick asshole and you sock

  • that donk is detracting

  • great beats are amazing

  • hey, wasn't trying to incite anger just a tad snarky on my part. i suppose i was over cruel on his drumming just seemed odd to try and teach this to people. he is indeed better than myself.

as for a cookie i'll say no but thanks.

  • is this Mr. Rogers kid?

  • @aaronisawesome21 Figure that out on your own did you? I think you deserve a cookie for that. Now go rest your brain must be tired from all that work.

  • @aaronisawesome21 i know he is ....but hes way better than u

  • Please B Purdie kick this kids rear! OMG funk sanitized like Comet cleanser. Clyde Stubblefield is rolfing right now. Go back to Jon secada muzak ace.

  • @kristoscan I love Bernard Purdie. :)

  • @SikaStarter

At what point does he say Funk Emerged from Rock? He says "Now Funk is just another style of rock". Theres quite a difference in what you're trying to prove right and what he says. Funk is 4 bars and 4 beats per minute JUST LIKE ROCK. Jazz is usually off beat triplets or improvised. He didnt mention it "Emerging from Rock". Get your facts right before trying to sound like a smart Alyc.

  • On the first beat I swear the high hat is on 3 ?

  • SICK ASS FOO

  • half the reason i watch these is because this is such a good sounding kit...

  • what drumset is that

  • expertvillage should be called noobvillage

  • hes talking to me like im retarded!

  • he's a good drummer, but he has the personality of a lemon.

  • @Calamari5 im guessing you have talked to him in real life and not on a drum lesson video?

  • @Calamari5 Do you even know him to judge that?

  • @Calamari5 some lemons have a good personality. at least he doesnt have the personality of a lime, man, theyre so sour-like

  • @Calamari5 He reminds me of that guy at the children's charity in Friends that Phoebe and Mike were going to donate their wedding money to.

  • @Calamari5 lmao

  • @Calamari5 A lemon, you say? Interesting to note that your username is Calamari! ;)

  • @Calamari5 HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • @Calamari5 you know he is a person and can see your comments....you have the personality of a lemon

  • @Calamari5 That comment made my day.

  • @Calamari5 Nice xDDD This is the very best comment i have read this year xDDDD

  • @Calamari5 Yea I know, He just seems plain, In the new videos he comes out more which is great!

  • @Calamari5 maybe you play drum like a lemon ? :D

  • @Calamari5 sounds like personal experience

  • thumbs up if you searched cool drum beat

  • Anyone else notice he's Canadian?

  • He does the robot all the time xD

  • Number 5 is fuckin beast!

  • Am I the only one who can't take this guy seriously at all?

  • I worship Sabian HHX's

  • the sound of the kit is amazinggg

  • Jared FUNK! :)

  • i love provided shit sheets

  • spreading inadequate information for free. Students, please be willing to pay for professional and dedicated teachers/masters for your lessons!

  • Is this video for children? Or did he just learn English? He talks to us like we're idiots.

  • @aaronwilliams4w I thought we were............ :D In all seriousness when doing any instructional one must be clear and concise.

  • Nice grooves...well played.. expained very well...thanks!

  • Comment removed

  • Hahhha "funk is just another style of rock" FAIL

  • Great lesson he breaks it down very well

  • These are good beats to learn - he explains it well

  • 0:42 this is a teacher ???? -.- expert village ist the biggest shit

  • what the funk,, funk is derived off jazz, wheres this guy getting his sht from

  • where is the groove!? the feeling? bah.. too much books!

  • This one time at band camp..

  • im learning this to expand my drum beats i really dont like funk at all

  • Fuck i hate expert village. Freedrumlessons is SO MUCH BETTER!

  • stop talking to me like a retard!! :(

  • @ViolentBubbles He isn't. While he might sound like he's patronizing the viewers, he's actually doing a great job at making sure that his directions are clear so that we have a good idea of what the pattern is before he actually does it. It helps to put 2 and 2 together so we can learn the beats better and I, for one, think he does a great job.

  • @MrGenericdrummer He does a great job, very clear and precise.

  • You look familiar? Come in , have a seat. Jared, right? Well we are doing a story and I'm Chris Hansen of Dateline NBC

  • @MrGenericdrummer he also has a speech impediment.

  • thanks for the lesson, very clear explanations.

  • He looks so much like the guy that got a knife thrown at him in starship troopers!
