  • there are red matted apes vwatching - yes, we like people. Tell them to desist from destroying the temples. (was that polite enough?)

  • this song reminds me of 2012

  • Their one and only BEST song. Absolutely magnificent!

  • However 'Love like blood' was to be be their breakthrough, 'A new day' was (and is) much more to my taste. Sheer brilliance!

  • Killing Joke always made some insanely inspiring anthem.

even if slightly dated, I'm digging this sound so much more than anything that came out lately from so called "angry" bands.

actually there might not be any real one left...shit

KJ far ahead and timeless !

  • after the aftermath

  • wow wow woooow

    gorgeous fucking good and insane

  • 27.04.2010 grają w Katowicach

  • awesome song the Jokes are one of my fav band ill see them in april :o)

  • That SPIDER in his T-shirt is from THENAZCA LINES - PERU

  • good song !

  • bass and drums, and jaz coleman<3.

i wouldve def. been a groupie for them back then if i could, haha :P.

  • good gothic rock will the early ones

  • De la new wave comme on les aimes...

  • ...to dance to, music to move?

  • but the live sound power is incomparable!

  • One of the Nazca lines depiction on his shirt...cool

  • I see that unfortunately some parts of the original video were deleted. 1. A person drinking blood from a dead animal and 2. A cruel experiment with monkeys.

  • heh, this vid is so eighties--like how jaz is wearing an ant symbol--mayb prodigy ripped him off hmmmm??

  • That's not an ant, it's a depiction of the Spider that was drawn on a huge scale on the Plains of Nazca Peru........Wiki it if you want to learn more.

  • You are completely right Scrogy, Nazca, I got one t-shirt like that from a visit to Peru.

  • Oh God. When you search for this song you get a Celine Dion song as well. The person that posted that should have their eyes poked out with red hot knives, and then their eyeballs should be fed to rabid dogs................

  • I'd prefer if the eyes would still be inside his/her/its head whilst the rabid dogs ate them.

  • Good point!!

  • LOL....I had to look at Celine Dions face....they should have to see the rabid dogs being unleashed upon them, right?

  • DAMMIT. I wish someone would repost that video of Unspeakable that was on here for a while. The one where Jaz was seated at the keyboards and it looked like a TV show. ANYONE?!?!

  • this is the greatest band of all times(RIP PAUL RAVEN)

  • Instigators of so much.

  • this song is now on Nighttime album on Itunes

  • this should be on the 'nighttime' special edition cd..its a bonus track I think

  • Great song! Great band. Thanks for posting.

  • Killing Joke = 30 years of innovation

  • Absolutely. I love KJ so much just because they strike the best balance between sustaining their sound, and adopting novel sounds of the decade.

  • I adore this band-so underated.Thanks for sharing!

  • the spider in his t-shirt is from the Nazca lines in PERU

  • superb..thanks for posting

  • NO ITS VERY OUT OF PRINT .

  • ive been looking for this song for a while now.this used to be one of their 12 inch singles exclusivly! I LOVE THIS SOUND.SOME OF THE BEST POST PUNK,AND DEFINITLY THEIR BEST.

  • only Geordies guitars make me feel alive

    the twists the unexpected

  • Epic in every sense of the word! sublime!

  • Essa música pra mim é demais!

    Esse cara é foda!!!

  • Back then in the first half part of the eighties, the great powerful dark rock guitars of Sioux, The Cult, The Chameleons, Cocteau Twins....

  • good taste !! ;=)

  • Don't forget Bauhaus. Daniel Ash is a genius, pure and simple.

  • sometimes I wonder if this band didn't influence The Cure for the album Pornography, especially on the sound...remembering the rawing guitars of Revelations...

  • Telemat, I don't think "Revelations" has influenced "Pornography" because both albums were recorded around the same time (around december 81-january 82.)

  • ok you're true but if not this album maybe the ones before...

  • a so precious band !!

  • I just realized something after listening to this: Where is the "epic" sounding music today? If that makes any sense.

  • It makes alot of sense, I feel bad for the angry young men out there, no epics, nothing to march too. Just shit!

  • I know what you mean, but I was actually referring to epic in the sense of: "Big Sounding". Like a lot of Zep's stuff. I guess this would explain why Jaz was such a HUGE Zeppelin fan. In fact, he produced the Symphonic Zepplin album. When you hear this song you get a sense that you are experiencing something that is timeless, a song that is not satisfied with simply being "a rock song" but rather a song that is marking an epoch. But I agree KJ had always been music for angry young men.

  • Im searching the guitar tab for this song.

Anyone got it or can tell me where to find?

  • I love killing Joke they have been goong for 28 years this year. Going to see them in Paris , october.

    Go jaz!

  • i love this song

  • -Did Jaz ever get over his '80s Aleister Crowley fixation, I wonder? He grew up Catholic. No wonder Uncle Al appealed to him,

"The Beast's" "New Aeon" replacing the Christian Era, being a handy route to take in rebelling against The Pope & his church!

But too bad Crowley was an asshole who didn't follow his own teachings.

  • I don't think he ever really got over it. If Crowley was the Beast, then Jaz is the Beast of Babble. Why? Because he just loves to babble about the Apocalypse. It never makes much sense but it keeps him going. I heard he's a sort of self-proclaimed priest, so he can preach about his mystic views. Suits him well, don't you think?

  • Here Jaz comes free

    KJ rule

  • Hey, not wishing to sound offensive, but we only reproduce through a genetic drive, to assume we have control over this is to assume we are better than every other species of our fellow mortals. As yon Tolstoy said 'As long as we have slaughterhouses we will have battlefields'. Lets all make the best of a bad situation. At least we're all watching this.

  • Are you implying that eating meat makes you violent? I certainly hope not.

  • I see where you guys are coming from, but it's much easier just to enjoy the music.

  • 25 years old and still sounds like it was released yesterday. How many bands out there now sound this fresh and 'different '? Not too many I can think of. They're playing at the Forum in London in a few months. Go and see !

  • Too put it simply, they are the greatest. Seeing them in NYC in October.

  • I saw them here in London in 1982 just after the release of 'Follow the Leaders'. An awesome show the intensity of which I have not seen repeated since.I have fond memories of watching some cheesy tv chart show back then with the Joke doing 'Empire Song' sandwiched between REO Speedwagon & Rod Stewart. The old and the new meeting head on !My Dad hearing me playing a record of theirs once burst into my room and yelled 'THIS IS MINDLESS NOISE..WHAT IS HAPPENING TO YOU ??' The good old days !

  • Sounds fun!! Killing Joke are probably the best.

  • That must have been BBC's Riverside programme in February 1982. Jaz wasn't there 'coz he left to Iceland and was replaced by a dummy behind the keyboards. Paul Ferguson was miming his vocals from behind the drums, hilarious stuff.

  • legend!

  • Well, I think Jaz is telling a killing joke when he says he never wrote a love song.."touch me....tell me I'm still human". This actually makes me feel optimistic, not nihilistic, as if change were possible. I don't think that everyone who ever existed COULD be a nihilist, or there would be no propagation of species. Wow, they were a force of nature back then...RIP Raven. Wonder if Jaz will be wearing the black nail polish like he is here in their reunion tour ;0

  • Night time re-issue is WELL WORTH getting! Excellent, all 4 of them. Thank you for posting.

  • F..king Brilliant

  • A new day of incredible sonority, great KILLING!

  • Everyone, ever, is/was a nihilist. How else could we live with the crimes of the past present and future? We all hope the world to be changed overnight. It is the manifesto of every religious group or political party. Nihilism is the purest and most honest form of our self and social delusion. Och aye, Killing Joke are the best!

  • Well, not quite. Theravada Buddhism is focused pretty exclusively on self-improvement with no mind given to changing the world, overnight or otherwise. And personal responsibility is more accurate and useful than just "nihilism" in describing our lives and finding ways to improve them.

  • I'm really glad you seem to have found something to believe in, but human nature is such that it involves us all in the same destructive game, and while so many believe in some bizarre judgement day, we will all be dragged along in a torrent of abuse of the planet and all it's species. I'm sure that if everyone bought into your philosophy/religion then the world would be a better place. All the best.

  • Thervada Buddhism has a long history of engagement with social movements. See the works of Ram Dass and Thuman for more details.

  • Nihilism is the last refuge of the tired, and there are many weary people in the world, for many incredibly important reasons. However, without hope or optimism for change the species would not propagate itself. Basic Darwinian/Lamarckian theory that anyone can grasp it. The human race certainly does not have that problem.....even the artists who wrote this song contradict your assertion. They all have perpetuated the species. There is some optimism there amid the rubble, not blank decay.

  • Sex Dwarf

  • Excellent!!

  • What is JAZ .Israeli .Beautiful man fascinating dark sounds with a postive human message .Did anyone ever realize they were not nihilists . These gorgeous englishmen !!!

  • jaz is half/indian half/english by the way

  • I was under the impression that Jaz had Egyptian blood in him rather the Indian?

  • jaz isn't israeli, in fact he hates zionists.

  • Really? I thought him and the Zionists made-up. I heard that he now hates the Scotch and people who watch the Chappelle Show.

  • Makes me think of a song The cult could have put on their Love album! Pretty cool!

  • Killer song. Can't wait for 'All Play Rebel' and 'New Culture' to appear officially on the NIGHT TIME re-isssue next year. RIP Raven. The Raven/Big Paul Ferguson rhythm section was second to none.

  • Im crying as I write this - one one the greatest musicians that ever lived - miss you and love you RAVEN - you were the reason I picked up a bass guitar

    RIP my dear brother

    xXx

  • paul looked so younge in this video R.I.P

  • RIP Paul!

  • RIP Paul Vincent Raven (Jan 16th, 1961 - Oct 20th, 2007). You will be sorely missed.

  • what a shame. Killing joke is one of my favorite bands, he will be missed.

  • Rest In Peace Paul Raven, Alternative Rock Bass genius....you will be sadly missed.....

  • Does anyone here have the video that was taken down of Unspeakable? The one that looks like it was done on a British TV show, with Jaz sitting at his keyboeards with dirt on his face?

  • i have it saved

  • Hypnotic transe of truth refined for those who choose to listen. I've got this vinyl sitting in my collection. By far, my favorite song by KJ.

  • badoocee, those that will survive will realize that we are connected. We will see the new day. Others who want to destroy will see the result of their actions in their extinction. There are more people who think like you than you might know. Peace and respect.

And of course, this is a fantastic video. Teutonic drumming, fantastic lyrics and the blur of what we have all come from.

  • Incredible Song With Very Good Imagery...Makes One (With An Open-Mind) Think... About All That Will Or Has Occurred In This Society. Will We Realize That WE ARE CONNECTED??.....For The Core Of It Is Energy/Spirit....Bring A New Day.

  • Very , very original . Love the way they play around with dischord in the chorus and actually take music to another level . A powerfull hypnotic one . So superb .

  • I agree this track should be commited to a CD somewhere. I'm glad I bought the 12" single way back when ;)

  • I always thought Jaz Coleman would make a great joker.

I know it's a very obvious observation, but still he would.

  • Damn, there are so many incredible images in this video. I slowed it down in the middle of the video; they inserted footage of the famous experiment (I know I am going to think of the researcher right after I post) where they had wire dolls with fur substitute for mothers to see how monkeys would react....a band that is legendary. Insightful, passionate and thank whomever they never wanted to be the next U2 (nausea is overwhelming me now thinking about it).

  • I can't believe that this version of song is not available on any of their cd's. Version of "new day" on "wilful days" compilation is a vinyl b-version called "dance day" and it's not even half as good as this one. WHATA SHAME!!! So many compilations and albums and they couldnt find a space for this song version. WE DEMAN THIS VERSION ON CD!!!!!

  • Now it is on the new release of Nighttime

  • I love the imagery in this video, Plastic rocks, ant robe, dude playing guitar with silver-blue skin was he on star trek? Dancing while playing drums with cut off broom handles. I can't get enough of this song it really has me mesmorized. Great stuff!

  • is there anyone who knows where Paul ferguson is now ?

  • He is living in New York. He now has a job as a sculpturist, restoring precious artwork. He rarely uses his drumkit these days, only plays with friends once in a while.

  • I loved the stuff from their romantic era. The early post punk stuff was the best but seriously KJ is a bad that HAD to evolve. Could you imagine them stagnating? I think Darkness Before The Dawn is my fave song from this era. The music from this era was great because they had the amazing ability to put the deepest PASSION into their sound, like early U2 (War and Unforgettable Fire). BTW: To the person who took down the old vid of my fave KJ song: Unspeakable.....YOU SUCK!!!

  • this is a great tune, stays in my head for days,...a new day oh, a new day.

  • Ha, I like that last part where the drummer looks like he's wanking. I wonder if that's intentional...

  • A lot of drummers are *wankers* but I'm not sure about this particular case of a possible wank.

P.S. Big Paul is definitely not one of the wankers - he's a really solid bloke.

  • A shame this version isn't on CD. The closest this song gets to CD is on the 'Wilful Days' album yeah? And even then it's horribly edited.

  • Raven is on the new cd hope they tour the states

  • ...suprised the sun shines in the east...

  • is raven still in the band ?

  • At the moment Raven is working with Prong and Ministry. Rumours are he will rejoin after his present duties.

  • Love these guys. I liken them to Joy Division; they were so unlike anything else out there at the time, and remain so underrated today

  • so true. its really dumb that there so underrated beacuse they have influenced so many bands including Metallica, Nervana, and Soundgarden.

  • I love these guys the have just evolved musicly foward except for 1994s dissapointing release like their new cd it make you want to smash things in a good way

  • thanks

    cool fucking song

sorry to be asking questions everyone probably knows

I was kinda young when this stuff came out lol

  • No problem, glad I could help.

  • what cd is this on?

  • It's not from a cd. It was an EP. Featuring 3 versions of this song.

  • I love that track too thanks for posting!!!!!

  • That right there is your anthem for Civilization! Seriously, I listen to that track whenever I play Civilization on my PC. Other than that, Killing Joke without a doubt the most awesome and unique alternative bands ever. They are so awesome that Page Hamilton of Helmet considers them one of his influences. I thought I share that info to all you KJ fans out there.

  • This song is awesome. Special to me too. It was the first Killing joke song I ever heard. My dearest friend played it too me because he wanted me to `get into them`. He was killed in 2004, so this song wil always be precious to me. He LOVED Killing joke!

  • I bought their first album (self gtitled) when it first appeared (thats right; Im an old bugger!). Sorry to say, Im disappointed by this track...sounds like a move into the "New Romantic" market. Looking at their later stuff, I dont think they'd be proud of it themselves. Still KJ best band ever, deserve a miss now and then ;o)

  • hi-brid punk! BRILL

  • sooooo far ahead of their time...brilliant stuff

  • Has anyone posted the "fire dances" music video from the "firedances" album? I haven't seen it on youtube yet.

  • i remember this being a very hard to find single not on any album, it was exclusive, and i was not even aware of its existence until i saw the video over 20 years ago! One of their most rythmic songs, excellent drums by Paul Ferguson! And The intense eyes of Jazz...don't fuck with him!

  • This takes me back! Still one of my favourite KJ tracks.

  • i remember buying this single when i was young , id imagine early 80s . the first band i looked forward to getting their new releases , (and still do )

  • This is a hot video and song too.

    lora dune

  • This is thier early stuff.

  • I wouldn't say this is early stuff. More like mid perhaps. This is after their 4th album (which was Firedances BTW).

  • Ok, thanks for telling.

  • Brilliant song from a brilliant band. They deserve much more credit than they get, that's for sure. I have a feeling I'm gonna be listening to this song waay too much now.

  • Great song. Anyone who can keep a straight face while performing in an outfit like that is pretty awesome in my book.

  • they were on 120 minutes on mtv back in the 90s.

I wonder if you have that clip to post.

  • They were 3 times on 120 minutes in the 90s. With Extremities on MTV USA, with Pandemonium on 120 minutes and 2 years later with Democracy on 120 minutes. If you search well, you should be able to find it on Youtube. That is for the 1994 en 1996 interviews with Jaz, Geordie and Youth.

  • what songs did they played on 12o minutes? can you post a link for me to highlight it?

  • Fantastic song and video from the best band in the world. Thanks for posting! Long live the Joke

  • one of my favorites, thanks for the quality vid, my old vhs of it is pretty worn!

  • This sums up KJ for me. Really catchy tune but sinister at the same time.

  • perfect description of KJ

  • damn. how can any band have put out such an amazing body of work. theyre fuckin brilliant. awesome musicians but not that stupid musician dork music. best band ever.

  • i agree

  • unreal -

  • Great song!

  • 2 thumbs up!!!

  • Great Gambit!

  • Thanks Gambit. It's great to see more KJ videos out of the woodwork.

  • Cheers for that Gambit.

    Let's all go....
