you are cruel cruel man, eric whitacre, releasing such a small sample of this heavenly music, it's like giving a thirsty man a few drops of water.... i nust have more!
Its his song, October, only for a choir..... don't get me wrong, this is going on my ipod the SECOND its released, (bc im a huge choir nerd) but...why not a new song.....
This was originally the orchestral piece October, right? I used this piece with some high school students in an enrichment program to talk about art, music, feeling, and narrative! I am SO happy to see it turned into a choral piece! I'd love to hear it in full...
Smile. I wish I could sing in this. I have the skills but alas, I am a middle school choir director who is 49 years old and my family needs me more. My 3 sons and their dad might think I'm a little weird if I trot off to Europe to record a choral piece. I am jealous in a good way. This makes me cry. Please keep sharing. Hope I get to be in the online thing. <3 Love ya, Eric, & keep posting! Choir Geeks Unite!!!!!
There is a performance of this Piece and many of his other works, by Cordydd, Conducted by Man himself in the St. davids Hall, Cardiff, Wales, Uk. this Sunday (16th oct 2011). Should be a hell of a gig, Tickets still available!
Is there a way to audition or become a part of this? Probably a stupid question i know but I am the biggest choir freak ever, and eric whitacre is my idol hahahaha
Unfortunately the Eric Whitacre Singers handpick their singers from the pool of professionals that they are associated with. However, I think it's fantastic that both Eric and his manager Claire are so dedicated and enthuasiastic about other choirs emulating and replicating Eric's work- record it when the manuscript is up and post it on his facebook!
October has long been one of my favorite Whitacre pieces, and (being a vocalist and choir director) I was very jealous that my favorite choral composer's most stunning work was written for... band (no offense to you band people out there - you guys are awesome!). So glad this incredible work has made it into the choral realm! Beautifully written and performed - cannot wait to hear the rest of it!
I seldom wonder how people can actually make music this beautiful, but this is one of those times. Participating in the choral art offers an opportunity to come together in a world that is so divisive to make such a beautiful and lasting impact on mankind.
Out of all the albums I've waited for, metal, rock, whatever, this one I CAN'T WAIT FOR.

I'm not a religious man, but this kind of sound gives me the impression there must be something others believe in :)

I like how he's determined to just show us a little bit. You can tell by the way he cuts the chorus off the last second of this video.
