This woman is just too gorgeous... not to mention what a hell of a beautiful rendition of Roberta Flack's classic from '72. It's too bad people compare various renditions as if one was better than the other. Celine Dion's version of this song is typical Celine Dion... sheer power and purity of voice that's just off the charts. Yet Leona's version is just as wonderful... fantastic, in a beautiful style that is truly Leona's own. And did I mention that she's also gorgeous?

She wanted him to write a song for her for a play she was in at the time. The original tempo was much quicker, it wasn't slowed down till Roberta Flack released it in 1972.

So many singers think they have to hit every note in the scale when singing one word... then they do it to every other word in the song. I think that ruins the way songs feel when you listen to them. I want to hear it clear with true emotion... not with show off voice.

So many singers have gone down the show off voice road and left the true feeling of emotion lost. Yes, its wonderful that they can hits some many notes, but alot of them missing the soul that makes your heart throb for more.

I dunno, but for some odd reason I've always held this song as a true classic, done by Robbie Flack who, although not well known over here in the UK, was already a legend in her own field.

Sadly I have to agree with Steve - this version is far too shcmaltzy, lingering and overplayed.

The old saying of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' comes to mind!

Leona is beautiful and her voice is also beautiful but her version of this song is overproduced - the tempo is too slow and she "sings" it too much ... Roberta Flack got it right first time (hehehe) It needs to be almost (but just only almost) spoken ... it gets you fair in the head when it sounds like somebody is actually TELLING you all that (yes I am male) .... sorry, but this take on this song is oversung

I don't like Roberta Flacks version, because of it's speed I can't truly appreciate the emotion in the song. With Leonas version not only is her voice better, but she sings each word as if its the most important word in the song. Which when talking about love is really nessicary. And to all those who think Matt from the X Factor sings better than Leona I pity you! :L

Leona is the sophisticate. To me hers is a more organised n polished discussion of something seeming settled or even past? For me Roberta is more spontaneous singing almost like the "day afta". To me she conjuors up more the wonderment, uncertainty, anticipation and sense of discovery in more real-time personal terms.
