  • I guess the robot just hasn't learned to swing yet.

  • Guy Hoffman is so amazing,he is a robotics genious who is very down to earth and doesn't care about showing off .

  • Shimon needs to stop playing on the nodes...

  • zzzzz

  • The code for this thing and it's ability to play an accurate set of sounds is going to end of being giant. Why can't I find any of the code, I want to share../.

  • ahhh, cant wait to find out that I have been fired from a gig because they bought the robot

  • Just saw a clip on the Steven Colbert show. I want one.

  • again!

  • Excellent----! Bravo encore Shimon.

  • bring Ruth underwood, She will kill that stupid robot

  • ehh... a human can play better IMO

  • There was a bit there in the middle where the robot seemed to get into it's own thing, which, as far as I know, really kinda killed the piano part :P

Still, most of it as very impressive, I'd like to see it move away from jazz, and do pure classical, though.

  • i think it might be because of the predictable scales in jass that makes the robot able to work, if this was classical it would simply play the tune from a stored list like a midi sequence, where as this is improvising based on what is being played on the piano.

  • Maybe so, still, otherr genres would be nice to see. I know of software that can compose piano pieces for classical play.

I imagine the hardest to do would be modern rock.

  • very true, also i would love to see the robot compose something entirely on its own. just tell it what notes sound good together, and what timing sounds good together and let it run.

  • @RustyNex I think you mean unpredictable

  • @AnkhAnanku ah yea well spotted thanks!

  • incredible..

  • Georgia Tech for life

  • now thats a clip i like watching, the robot and the usic are sublime

    thanks

  • the sound quality is amazing i would say if best buy had internet they could show case this video to show how the speakers and picture quality of a computer before someone buys it ya know

  • Yeah, use a highly compressed, low bitrate YouTube video to show off picture and sound quality. That's a good idea... *facepalm*

  • I wonder if the robot is really playing on-the-fly or if it has the music ahead of time.

  • Doesn't really matter to me........plays the marimba better than I can.....haha

  • Awesome use of our Liberty I Series Mallets. Thanks!

  • Nice mallets! We ended up using several models, with the LVH for the highest register to get a brighter sound

  • best. youtube. comments. ever. you're killin' me.

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • I would like to try just slamming on random notes to see what the robot could come up with.

  • it would then notice what ur doing and do the same... in the key of G

  • Awesome... Though, at some parts the robot plays a bit crapy.

  • I love that they included a big red Emergency stop button on the side of the bot.

  • the beginning is the best! id buy Shimons jazz album lol

  • Love it!

Never will they replace the human errors which may make the beauty of music, the off-beats, the movements of fingers on fret boards, the sticks hitting the rim, etc...

  • It takes a human to display fondness for something defined simply as a mistake. I for one welcome our new jazzy robot overlords.

  • AAARRRGGGHHHH !!! Machines are taking over the world!!! Damn dirty machines !!!! anyone want to buy my 5 octave Musser...cheap?

  • Arkansas!

  • Arkansas???? Where did you get that?

  • this is incredible

  • awesome!

  • I have a feeling it'd do a lot better at a straight ahead jazz tune with a solid tempo. It seems to kinda fail when the free tempo places comes in.

  • ..... I have played and LOVE this tune.

  • amazing! want to see more

  • lovely! I look forward to the christmas album!

  • This is an amazing performance, both intellectually and emotionally, human-machine team work at it's best.

  • NICE! Watched it live, it was great!
