the fuel pump is going to go out soon-- $300 for pump and do it yourself or $900 in the shop. they only last about 2 years. if you don't have the money to change the pump right away then put in chevron gas it seems to calm down the needle. might buy you some time.
This is pretty funny, I'm gettin ready to do an overhaul on my 95 suburban with trickflow heads and cam with exhaust system. Hopefully get 500hp output
Mine spikes way past full then drops to normal level and vibrates like crazy. Had poppet injectors go bad, replaced with a lindertech conversion, I now get 18 mpg over the road. that era with the 5.7 vortech was the best ever
i need help put new gasket intake and lifters had to pull the ignition now idlies like crap but runs fine off idlie.was told dealer has to put timing with computer.any ideas
loud when driving or loud during idle and start.... the newer 99 burbs had a stronger bigger fuel pump put in them i believe because they kept having problems with the older smaller ones cause people would run the tank down below a 1/4 and over heat the pump... sometimes a loud pump at idle and weak acceleration or bad shifting can mean your pumps clogged... as for the dancing gauge thats the send & recieving unit in the tank...
its not depending on the gaspump , if your truck does that than its your gas needle in your gas tank that measures and sends commands to your dashboard which tells you how much gas you got , if that gas line is staggering around than your needle is moving around so thatss about 50 bux to get done and if you have warranty , thats included...
as a 1999 owner, that fuel gauge thing is a normal thing. I was told it was "high resistance" but that is shit. It's just junk probably made by siemens. I am surprise the needle does not "flutter"
dude, my 2000 silverado does that... well did that.. until my fuel pump went out! watch out, when the dealership replaced my fuel pump, it fixed the problem... it doesnt do it anymore after the new pump...
I get the same problem and all my reaserch points to the fuel sending unit/meter in the tank. Makes the truck hate cold weather

yup mine does that too, year 2000. . .the fuel pump has also made a high pitched whine for over a year now. . . unstopable truck tho!
XHaroldXI 10 months ago
isn't that due to lack of baffles in the tank?

This is actually a mixed problem between electrical interference (bad grounds and such), bad sending unit, and bad solenoid.
