@KikiMcCloud: I made a somewhat similar pteranodon costume for halloween this year, and I used palm fronds from a queen palm tree for the long fingers. It takes a bit of work, you have to cut all the little leaves off with an exacto knife... but they're nice and flexible, yet stiff. I recommend them if you have access to a queen palm.

What do you think I should do, im making a werewolf costume. Its only the head and some of the back(tail too). And I don't know which foam to use. I havent found the one that you talk about, my friend and I saw some foam at a craft store. The green kind that you put flowers in, and she thought that was it. I don't really know is it soft or hard? ^^;

The green kind you stick flowers into is called "floral foam'. It's very hard and falls apart into power. It is horrible to use for costumes as it will eventually break out and crumble away over time.

What you need to find is called "upholstery foam" and is most often found in fabric stores rather than craft stores (though Hobby Lobby carries it). It's what chair cushions are commonly made out of.

and i really screwed up on the wings by making the armhole bigger than needed but then it created a steep shoulder-blade as i sewed it up thus making it more like lugia. now im pondering on the mask stuff but the major work is done and ive only got a couple hours to go but i cant work until june 16 (3 days until metro!) any tips that you could toss out on my new costume along with the aida or not?

Wow, sounds like you've definitely updated your costume quite a bit! I'm sure it'll turn out much better.

As for the aida cloth, it'll only work well if the fabric is close to your eye. Different types have different hole counts and you just want to make sure you color it dark enough and can see through it. Another material I could suggest is chiffon... you could layer it to make it darker, but it's very easy to see out of.

again, very clever on the wing. my costume is just fine at this point i need to put on the fins, work on the wing (going for seperate movement!), get the tail kind of sturdy, touch up the mask,make the feet,

and then add the fins on the tail. but besides that the main work is done. the body is finished the mask just needs eyes and aida cloth for the mouth, is that what i could use or something better cause im looking out of the mouth?

A little bit. The elastic band has to be tight in order for it to hold the pvc pipe in place. I get a lovely elastic ribbed pattern engraved into my fingers, but for the most part I wouldn't consider them being "sore". My arms get tired from holding the open wing position for long periods of time though ^^

...yeeeah. If this is your first costume and you've got a deadline like that, well, you've got to be working hard and fast. It's going to be extremely difficult for you.

I suggest doing something easier or making sacrifices. You're going to have to work more than just weekends and for hours or even days straight; any time you can set aside. It'll always take at least twice as long as you think it will. Do you already have the materials?

The eyes? The white plastic was cut with a dremel tool out of a plastic bowl while the part you see through is made from aida cloth (which has tiny holes in it so so can see through it) and it's just colored with markers. Hope that explains it! ^^
