nice work, I often work like this when on my own on large walls. each spread to their own ways, i know lads who finishes are immaculate and start at the bottom, its just the way they prefer to do their job, doesn't mean they are any less professional.
he sshould start at the bottom work 2 top and then fill in tops easyer on body less time on stand . plus a metal hawk will destroy a good trowel if he is going hard enough .never like 2 see a lad wit a metal hawk sure sign of a part timer
@ALLMIGHTYWU .mouty bollox . any1 who knows about laying on skimm will start at th bottom .go up 2 the top as far as they can reach quick hawk full around the top wella finished .100 metres a day no bothers . u want 2 know any thing else bout plastering fire ahead u plonnnnnnnker
@thegarmul Erm, anyone who knows about skimming knows you start from the top, right to left then from the bottom right to left joining where you came down from the top, where did you learn? as for the whole metal hawk thing, are you even a plaster?
@SohoMonkey hey monkey boy .. i learned in ireland ive plastered hundreds of houses ..look at the video c how much time he is waisting on stand .. where if he started on the bottom he would hit 90 percent of wall wit his feet on the ground ... 1 hawk of skimm would finish across top that means .....speed .....money.......and yes a metal hawk destroys a good broken in skimmin trowel weakens the edges over time ......u must be an awkward lefthander wit ur left 2 right plonkrr
@thegarmul 100 metres a day. you fucking plank. fucking liar fella, and if you do do that amount you wont get paid coz it will be shit. Ever painted your walls/ or is that for the next trade who follows you? you can try and slag me off but i paid off my mortage before 30 through plastering, SO i await your answer.
@thegarmul very true, only good plasterers know about not using a metal hawk. but then again most people aint using marshall perma bend trowels so they wouldnt know a good worn in trowel if it sliced them across the face....
@Durs5 Hey fat puss durex ur not at a football match sliceing ppl across the face ..... and to have a three bedroom house in a council estate is very easy 2 pay before thirty .... there giving them away ... u must be proud of ur self .... id say u snorted and drank a decent house . and be jealous of my 100 metres a day lose a bit of weight and u can do the same if u were trained by the best . my house 4000 sq ft 800k
@thegarmul your so funny. but ive trained lots of people and i can tell you straight away- you is slow. 100 m/day bollox. your just kidding yourself. is that 1 coat and a fill n? or 2 TRUE coats like a pro? only got to look at your belly to see you cant handle 100metres a day. more like a week..... mnow fuck off let me guess bulgarian. aaah its nice yes !!!!
sh1t man... you guys are rapists... you have some fairly odd ways of working too. scooping from the board, rather than flicking to the trowel, going horizontal first. the trowel to board thing is just feel I guess, horizontal I'm guessing because side edges people see first. people don't look at the ceiling very often. you need to spend out some cash on a trolley for your bucket guy, so he can wheel it round behind you. actually, forget that, just hose it onto the board :P
This is considered a level 5 finish. level 1: tape 2:bed in 3:skim 4: normally would be sanding but in this case cover all of wall 5: sand is the best quality finish u can do. i prefer the spray level 5 myself. takes 1/4 time
what's up with you boys across the pond applying compund to the whole wall? I'm not saying you're wrong, just curious. Here in the states we mud and tape the joints and cover the screw heads, sand it, and paint it.
@EAWFF83 Over here plasterboard usually comes with two different sides, one for plaster the other to be joint filled and painted in the way you describe. Most prefer to plaster the whole board, it's just our way and it makes a very durable surface. Block walls are normally rendered with sand/cement mortar and then a finish coat of plaster, so all internal walls look the same.
@newagemisfit Interesting. Here there are of course two sides, but it is only hung one way. When you say "plaster board", is it made of gypsum? And when you refer to the compound you're skimming the wall with, is it actual plaster, or is it joint compound, that you use to mud seams and cover screw heads? It looks like it spreads like mud, but just checking...
@EAWFF83 As far as I know plasterboard is gypsum based this is nailed or screwed to a timber frame. The joints and inward corners are reinforced with gauze and plaster, and metal or plastic beads attached to outward corners. The plaster is usually board-finish or multi-finish, that I believe is gypsum based and different to jointing compound. The (pink) finish is mirror smooth and very tough. It is then primed with primer or matt emulsion thinned with water and painted.
@newagemisfit Right, I'm well aware of how the board is hung. Was more specifically asking about the compound which you coat it with, which I believe you answered. I'm not entirely sure what "board-finish" and "multi-finish" mean. I've got to get my hands on some of that stuff. I don't think I've ever even seen it here in the states. I'm currently remodeling my Victorian built in the 1880s and there are so many plaster walls that need to be repaired...

i hate the sound some plasterers make when they pull in from the edges. doesnt mean your a bad plasterer by any means its just one of my pet hates. i used to do it so thats how i know it annoys me lol.
I just paid for my home to be replastered. the job they did is art and the job barno1966 can do is art as well this guy knows his job glad to see someone take pride in their work keep it up young man.
I noticed Brits using this pink stuff. I've never seen it used in the States. What is it? Here, mostly wallboard is just taped & nails spackled before paint is applied. (Except for my old place which is mostly plaster or cement board walls.)
it depends where the gypsum comes from, its different colours across the world, u can get grey and pink in the uk, that why sum bonding is grey and plaster pink, but it can vary. white generally from europe.
good job ya spilled fuck all and quick spreading the muck,i served my time in a workshop casting moulds and making cornice so its good to c a bit of basic plasterwork
keeps doin them bottems on his knees he'll know about it,looks like some one been on a course, who the fuck put skirting on before the plasterer.all these skimming videos not one uses a darby for flattening. need to come to the black country meet some real spreads.
There's no need to be rude. I just thought the video does not show all what could have been shown. I was just trying to point out that when being paid for meterage then the quality goes out the window. One coating is just one example. You can get more done one coating but you will not get the same finish.
I can get paid more in the domestic field for a lot less work. I would not really want to be on site slogging my guts out for less. It also gets a bit monotonous doing the same walls day in day out. I prefer a bit of change. I did not intend getting in a slanging match I just thought the video did not show a lot.
Easier on site with an empty room. Do a ceiling in someones house when you have a carpet down and furniture to work around that has to stay in the room. Everything has to be sheeted from the door to the room. You can't kick the step up around, it catches in the sheet. You have to keep moving the furniture and you have to keep the wallpaper clean if there is any.
If they want to go like mad all day and be completely knackered and buggered up by the time they are 50 then that's fine. Is it worth it at the end of the day. How is the site work at the moment anyway, is it still quite.
i can see you one coat on plaster board by the way you dubbed out the joints i do as well as long as you dubb out the joints and door frames first its just as good as two coats but alot faster with less effort

I need my lounge skimmed and wondered if anyone could give me the ansers to the following...
Q1: After stripping wallpaper I am left with old paint chipped away does all this old paint need to be removed before a plasterer can skim?
Q2: Also the area is about 40ft x 18ft and walls are about 9-10ft high, what rough price would be for it to be skimmed?
