  • "Since the mid 70s roller coaster designers have relied on computers..."

AHAHAHA. I dont think so sweetheart.

"The g-force pressers riders uncomfortably into their seats..."

    Oh how things have changed!

  • i wish this was still here...i wish wizzer was taken out fro superman =(

  • Open your eyes bitch!

  • Too bad they had to get rid of ShockWave. It was my favorite. But I heard they had lots of maintenance problems with it.

  • i wish that fly wasnt of the camera bugging the hell out of me did anyone else spot the fly

  • oops nvm :P

  • no shoulder bars on this ride? O: too bad it's gone.

  • the shokwave kinda looks like the batman but with more loops

  • cant believe they took this down!!!! they gave the train the lady is on to demon and its one of their trains they should take down viper and put this ride up instead!!!! give me 30 thumbs up ill go tell one of my family members to do this cuz we own it

  • @singingsoccerstar1 I would MUCH rather have an awesome wooden coaster than an arrow looper thank you very much!

  • @singingsoccerstar1 I agree. The Viper is NOT one of my favorites. Everyone thinks American Eagle is so rickety, but I think the Viper is WAY more rickety and jostles you around too much.

  • this is sooooooooooo retro lol

  • People whine and piss about this coaster giving them headaches and what not and this is just not true. This coaster was spectacular and The American Eagle wooden coaster shakes you around more to give a headache than Shockwave....um and Unpopular MY ASS!!! This thing always had long lines. This thing was quick, fast, non-stop thrill and it's a shamed it couldn't be saved like Kiddielands Little Dipper and older coasters. We miss you Shockwave AND Arrow Dynamics!!!

  • i heard they had to take this down, because it ripped earings out of peoples ear. is that true???

  • I have the leaked blueprints right here in this video for the new huge coaster at Six Flags great America. Only watch if your a true SFGAm fan. /watch?v=waQ6-iBR3u4&lc=fH4uYGMJaXarQ4Yg4b6jng7UfxvcHA09McKIsjt_404&feature=inbox

  • wait... so did superman ultimate flight replace shockwave?????

  • @chargerboy35 Yeah pretty much, it is in the same spot. Sucks right? Shockwave was my favorite ride.

  • @chargerboy35 yes

  • She Sounded like a whale in the end. waaaaaaaaaaa waaaaaaaaaaaaa waaaaaaaaaaaaaaa waaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • am i the only one that misses this ride? such a classic =(

  • @dcrusselle no, you're not alone pal... Shockwave was the most intense, not stop action coaster I have ever been on. There are coasters with bigger loops, bigger drops, etc.. but there literally was NO break in the action from invert ot invert... 3 loops, a cobra roll, 2 corkscrews and a mega G turn... it had it all... GRRRRRRREAT coaster.

  • the cats look just like demon!!

  • i wish this was still there instead of superman!

  • i miss this ride

  • This still exists at six flags magic mountain in Los Angeles. It was built in 1992 and has pretty much an identical track layout but it's called viper

  • This ride was so much better then the crappy Super Man ride

  • 0:21

you also have to not mind taking tons of ibuprofen to help with the major headaches XD

  • the only thing unsafe about that coaster in that time is there is no seatbelts on the restraints

  • That looks just as scary as the amazing rollercoasters today!

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!! AWWWWWWWWWW AAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!! 5:44- 5:57

  • In fact, The ride Was once the Tallest and Fastest Roller Coaster until in 1989 when SFGA In Jackson, NJ Unveiled Great American Scream Machine, Arrow Dynamics Coasters were very smooth at that time till The Big Dogs Intiman AG and Bollinger & Mabbiard Began making Smooth Roller Coasters, The old Fashioned Arrow Coasters always had the loudest Chains and Chain Dog ever, Arrow Dynamics were reliable and Safe at it's time compared to Intiman AG.

  • Intiman AG Has the Worst Safety Record in Roller Coasters!

  • @eriggs1228 sadly i agree XD

  • Shockwave opened in 1988 and was scrapped in 2006 due to the Unpopularity of the Ride, The only Arrow Dynamic Super Coaster that still is opened is, Viper in SFMM, Although Arrow Dynamics went Bankrupt in 2002, 2 years after CEO and Engineer Ron V. Toomer Retired, Some of Arrow Dynamics Coasters have been Serviced by Vekoma International because of it's Design, Arrow Dynamics made some of the Best Designed Roller Coasters and Trains, It was the 1st Manufactuer to Use Restraints on it's Rides.

  • " It wont carry me okay?! "

  • This video pissed me off/bores me.

  • u know why they chose this becuz of whizzer because whizzer was too unique a ride to remove but demon was too similar to shockwave they thought probably

  • Shockwave was my first mega coaster. That being said I'm glad its gone now. I swae I got a concussion on this ride!!

  • i did miss that ride

  • they took this out and put superman

  • 0:43 lol thats what she said

  • This is Six Flags Great America, but the GASM at Great Adventure is very similar to this. However, that ride is now closed down.

  • The arrow Mega Loopers are leaving :(

    I love them D:

  • @RevoltingRaichu Viper is still up

  • man i have never been on this roller coaster. but i have heard of it. i finally looked it up on the computer and i found out that it was were superman is now. and once i looked at this video and finally saw shock wave i would've much rather had this ride then superman.

  • Comment removed

  • @13Mikestar 600 feet? XD

    456 Feet, 128 MPH

  • @RevoltingRaichu sorry i didnt know.

  • @13Mikestar Dont be sorry :P

  • For thoughs of you who don't know, shockwave opened in 1988 at sixflags. It was torn down at the end if the 2002 season, that's why some of you might not remember it.

  • when and why did they get rid of this thing?

  • ive never even heard of this my first time at six flags superman was already there

  • 3:25 wtf? i wish her head was cut off or she fell off :)

  • ya great america has been going in a down ward spiral they removed this and put superman here when superman was supposed to replace the whiizer which would have been better. then de ja vu went and the dark knight came.... wish they would have kept this never got to ride it

  • @poofy917

Yeah, I was always too short to ride Shockwave, and it went before I was tall enough. Superman gets boring at the end, but I love the loop on it. The Dark Knight was fun the first time, and then it turned into Ragin' Cajun in the dark. But I don't mind Deja Vu going...it always broke down and hurt people. I just wish they'd get rid of Iron Wolf...hurts my head every time. Great ride, bad migraine.

  • They shut this thing down because it got to 6 G's of force, when the limit is 5, and people were getting whiplash and the like.

  • I don't think they should hav eliminated shockwave...but instead fixed the glitches or built it again....there's now only like 6 roller coasters at great america and most of them aren't that thrilling! The other states are beating us now...we need to come back hard!

  • Chang is goin there, it's already out of sfkk and sfkk is permanently shut down. For all u lucky bitchez chang is an amazingg ride but I only got to ride it three times.

  • @Coasterfreakboyman01 superman is already there. chang is going were the space shuttle ride was

  • @AsItNeverSeems Chang is going where GASM was :/

  • Ahhh...good ole Shock Wave. Memories

  • Koo

  • Yet another arrow looper that hasn' aged well...If you watch the video, you see that she is not banging her head at all!

  • @Sum1MakinVids Yeah I noticed that too, it seemed very smooth. Unfortunately that happens to a lot of the best rides today, then they get torn down. But then people wish that they get rebuilt again so hopefully this ride won't be forgotten.

  • I worked at that six flags back in 2002 and one day I got to work in the morning and was told the shockwave wasn't running that day. I was later told that during the preruns that morning a seat flew off of the coaster...At the time I didn't really give a shit and didn't think much about it. But now I think back and wonder what really happened.

  • @tbfhbook What do you mean a seat? Arrow seats are molded into the fiberglass car body, so if a seat flew off, the entire car body flew off.

  • Wonderful vid. Thank you for posting.

  • i remember they would open the fence on the catwalk so you didn't have to go downstairs to get on the ride again.

  • God those were the days...I really miss the shockwave and the old six flags great america set-up from the 80s when I was a kid. Sometimes I'd give anything for a time machine just to go back and revisit for a while.

  • dizzy!

  • That looks like it was a lot of fun. I wish I could have gone on it.

  • @ThePirateprincess23

same here....i was only 7 when i remember seeing the shockwave...i was too short and then i remember hearing about them removing it for room for the superman.....i really wanted to go on it because it looks soo fun!

  • @RCT3fanatic95

I met Mark Shapiro (The CEO of 6 Flags) a few years ago when him and his family came to the park. I Introduced myself, & asked him what his personal opinions on the shockwave & skywhirl removal were. His answer, total mismanegment! Even he thinks the Shockwave removal was bullshit! Shockwave was hands down one of the best coasters Great America has ever had! It just needed some improvments to make smoother and less rough on peoples heads.

  • well thank you for the information ArrestAlexJones! Yeah i heard things that it hurt really bad on the head and such, but i agree if they did try to make it smoother, im sure it wouldve been there a little longer! I have a feeling that something will happen to Iron Wolf because people complain about it bangs your head around, but i still enjoy the ride a lot! I hope they dont remove it, but just make improvements such as getting new trains or something....but who knows right!

  • @RCT3fanatic95

Yeah, iron wolf has gotten very head bangish over the last 10 years! Hell, it was bad when I rode it back in 2000! Lots of people around the internet have speculated that they will put Changs trains on Iron Wolf and Convert Chang to a floorless. This is only a rumor, but if it is possible to convert a stand-up to a floorless, I would love to see that happen! Hell, they just turned the Texas Giant into a steel coaster, so I guess there might be a possibility.

  • @ArrestAlexJones

Yes I also heard rumors about SFKK's former stand up coaster, Chang, which the rumor state that Chang might be placed at SFGA in the future. It is there right now, I believe, but no one knows for sure where it is going to be placed at. I also heard the rumors about Chang becoming floorless and IW would get the stand up trains (i forgot the company's name that made Chang's trains) and rumors that Chang might be Bizzaro or something like that. IW is rough, but I love that ride!

  • @RCT3fanatic95

Me personally, I don't see Iron Wolf being removed anytime soon. Even though lots of people dislike Mark Shapiro, he is a very smart business man, & he only removes coasters when it becomes an absolute must. Deja vu for example, Broke down all the time, had terrible ride capicity, cost the park tons of money, & was just plain unreliable. Iron Wolf doesn't cost much money at all to operate, It still draws a pretty damn good crowd, & it rarely breaks down.

  • @ArrestAlexJones i disagree with it breaking down, when i was there last month it broke down 6 times.

  • @ArrestAlexJones iron wolf is getting the old trains from SFKK's chang so it will eliminate the headache problem. and when chang opens in spring 2011 it will have new trains

  • 3:27 She looks kind of pissed

  • what bothers me the most about this video is how close to the track she while its going right next to her.

  • Actually, she's on the evac catwalk where the mid course is located at. She's fine.

  • at 0:14, did the ride open without over the shoulder restraints?

  • Comment removed

  • for crazyforcoasters,

    Is a mixture of images.

The roller coaster appeared in 0:14 is a Schwarzkopf Looping Star;)

The Schwarzkopf coaster can be seen completely in 1:12.

    sorry for my bad English.

  • thats what i was thinking, didnt see any, and then when she's on it they magically appear

  • gayest scream ever lol 5:45

  • COOL HA HA HA HA HA

  • Actually Superman stand where this is. Deja Vu was where Sky Whirl was. dark Knight was put inside a theater and they added another building to it.

  • Superman replaced this ride. Buccaneer Battle replaced Déjà Vu.

  • Comment removed

  • no they didn't.

  • u can see at the top of the loops there is no specail braced track. this was filmed b4 they found out how much stress is on the loops

  • been on this, tore it down and replaced it with the Superman ride

  • i never heard of this ride when was it built it looks cool ii hope they buuild again de javu

  • they put up super man rollercoaster, but i still miss shockwave

  • This the Illinois one??

  • @Fujiko0033 Shockwave was good, but I still think Raging Bull is better, and Superman may not have the best drop, but it is still very fun.

  • They tore down dejavu and are building a new rollercoaster. No one news what it is going the be or look like.

  • It is supposed to be a B&M dive machine. Similar to Griffon at Busch Gardens

  • when will it be done?

  • Buccaneer Battle has been open for a while. It replaced Déjà Vu this season. Haven't you seen all the TV ads for it??

  • the funny thing is that the shockwave was torn down because it was to dangerous

But now that deja-vu is gone i hear that they are rebuilding the shockwave

  • "i like the feeling of ALL your internal organs suddenly rushing up to your throat" o,o ORLY you must be dead

  • lol the iron dragon what a gay ride

  • Wow you are REALLY close to the tracks at 3:04 but they took out this ride=( im in 2009!

  • it was an ok ride, a helluva headbanger though, you seriously had to brace your neck on the headrest if you dont want whiplash. i wish they still had it though. its skyline isnt as impressive now... rip shockwave and deja vu... boo hiss to dark knight. the joke is on the thrill seekers tricked into riding that

  • hahahaha 2:05

"but it wont carry me... okayy ?"

  • What The Hell??? Tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world?? How old is this video?

  • probably 1988 or something.

  • No.....I'd imagine the 1990's

  • well, it would have had to have been 1988, cuz 2 more opened in 1989 and 1990 that were both taller than this. plus, in 1989, the first hyper coaster opened.

  • Fourtee

  • RIP Parking Lot Monster =)

Last time I went to the park they had Shockwave and Sky Whirl, obviously it's been a few years.

  • Look out!!! Jerri Curl spotted @ :43. LMAO!!!

  • It's the soul gloooooooo lol

  • I still dont know why they got rid of the shockwave, for that stupid layout of Superman. Shockwave even made me black out when I was a teen but damn! it was soo good! . I miss it.

  • RIP Shockwave :(

  • That roller coaster was better than superman ultimate flight that replaced it...

=\ this kind of makes me miss it more.

the line went fast for me back when I went on it maybe a year or two before they took it down.. (40 minutes max) the quickest, about 2 minutes.

    =P

I got stuck on the Whizzer one time. but it was a long time ago.

  • i always wanted to go on this ride but i was too little to go on but when i was tall enough they were stating to put up superman. =D

  • same here... and it kept breaking down

  • You think she should be standing right underneath the track at 3:21 ?

  • Lol, back when this was made, I guess it didn't matter? Maybe? Not something I'd prefer to do.

  • superman sux. they should have never replaced the shockwave

  • I still don't get why people thought Shockwave was rough. And it was always looked popular to me when it was there.

  • They tore it down because it was a bad ride. Bad in a sense it hurt when you got on it.

  • another one i wante dto ride but didnt get too... T_T

  • i miss the shockwave.we had one as well at six flags great america in gurnee (chicago).they tore it down and put superman it its place.

  • yea i heard they took it down due to too many people getting sick from its six loops?

  • It's a shame the Shockwave is gone. I rode it repeatedly in '94 - it was a major thrill for me to sit in the front seat in the first car and hold my hands up during the first drop.

  • i wish they would have taken down the damn wizzer instead of this. no one even rides the wizzer!

  • People ride the whizzer! Anyways, though an amazing coaster, I think superman is better, only bad thing is Superman dosn't get the same amount of people through that the shockwave did, so the lines just move slower.

  • yeah your right. the line is always around 2-3 hour wait

  • really? the longest ive ever waited was 30 minutes

  • what days did you go on? and was this recently cuz i havent been to six flags since fright fest..

  • like late june. sometimes it is very long just go when you see it short

  • yeah we usually try to hit it up after 6 or 7 when the kids are gone

  • r u joking. when i went there was zero people waiting in line for the shockwave. thats why they took it down. I go mabey two times a year and the line for whizzer is packed. theres a reason shockwave taken down instead. its a rough ride, its just loops after loops, And too many people were complaining about it.

  • it had mechanical issues, and super man was gonna be the new ride so they decided to scrap this instead of whizzer

  • They didn't scrap the Shockwave. It was dismantled, refurbished and rebuilt at Six Flags Great Adventure as Great American Sceam Machine.

  • there were many coasters designed after shockwave, GASM was one of them

  • GASM opened WAY before shockwave was scrapped. They are the same design and layout, but different rides.

  • so why did they get rid of this to make the same layout ride?

  • GASM is at six flags great adventure, whereas this is at six flags great AMERICA. Two different parks in the same park chain.

  • oooooo so why did they get rid of this?

  • Because it got old and rough, like all arrow coasters!

  • why would they tak don such a great ride

  • Great vid. I really miss Shockwave.....one hell of a ride in the back car. At Magic Mountain you can ride Viper, an improved version that does not include dead mans curve after the 3rd loop. lol

  • I miss this coaster i would ride it every year i would go to six flags the line was always short but i do love superman ultimate flight and dark knight :)

  • when was this bulit

  • Shockwave ran from 1988 - 2002. Great Adventure & Magic Mountain still have their versions. :)

  • lady scream!! lol

  • hehe

  • they take all the good rides away - like just recently deja-vu. They might even take the infamous american eagle away! then they replace it with worthless crap like superman : ultimate flight and ... the dark knight. now it's

  • dark knight ride is sweet shut up

  • the video above is a shockwave memorial it is a must watch for shockwave fans and it had some pictures of it under construction!

  • I am kind of sad I never got a chance to ride this. It looked like a lot of fun. Well I'm not being mean but I think I can get similar thrills from The Vortex.

  • haha listen to her screaming when she rides it sounds like shes giving birth or something

  • i always wanted 2 go on this ride but to small. damn i wish they still had this

  • God I Miss This Ride

  • me too :(

  • why did they take this freakin ride down man i wished i got a chance to get on maybe maybe they'll bring it back
