This video says it all. God Bless all that participated especially Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones who orchestrated this beautiful song. Michael rest in peace now that you are with God, I'm sure we all will meet you in a better place.
i love this version of the song its amazing and the musicians in this version as a whole have contributed more to the music society as such but on average the musical talent in the second is probably a bit better, apart from the autotuning fags, i love both versions, this one probably a little better :D
You know that clicking on "More information" is easier than typing : "i was absolutely stunned while im watching this vid...OMG i ♥ their voces,...and anyone who could name those who sung??/please,,,, " ? If not, it is.
Justin Bieber in the new one just ruined it. This one is so much better. So much more soul. The other one would of been great but they shouldnt of given a little 15 year old kid with no true heart or soul a part in the beginning.
The CLARITY! The DISTINCTIVNESS! The NATRUALNESS. Close your eyes. Listen to the song. Match voices to artistes. Now open your eyes. Watch them sing. Feel the PASSION. .... ... This original is the best ..forever and FOREVER... Real serious talents. Less techs
Music overall back in the day was soo much more real and way better than these days. i mean dont get me wrong there are a few good songs now, but it was more common back in the day. . .
this is ORIGINAL! since there was no much intervention of technology then, I could clearly hear the quality of their voices. It's a lot better and more touching than the new one.
@lantaw28 What you've said doesn't make a lick of sense, because music recording technology was top notch in the 1980s, and with the amount of talented musicians who work their ass off to get where there at = Brilliance.
In these times, you rarely see that thanks to the abuse of auto tune, which is really suppose to be used to smooth-en vocals, as in removing certain pitches. Not a special effect.
Wow, this is the first time I've ever heard this version of the song (lol, seriously, but anyway) and I think it is so so so much better than the new version for Haiti. In fact, I didn't even like the new one -_- This one is beautiful and feels much more meaningful, somehow.
Technology will never replace or improve natural talent, The artists in the original are true superstars who's music span generations, definition of cream of the crop.
Original is the best hands down. I mean with the better technology you'd think the new version would top the old but no. My hats off to the artists back then, not only did they have the talent but the passion as well. They were pretty much taking a chance with the song and all the artists together yet their singing was well harmonized. The new version had the proper guidence but the results weren't the same. Well they did alright FOR a remake that is. Nothing ever tops the original.
They should have NEVER tried to make this song over..it is ICONIC and the voices and parts are PERFECT because they were hand picked Michael...Perfection can not be improved upon...Additionally another of those voices have gone on like the late great Ray Charles...
@rockdiva888 i agree the haiti remake was good but the auto tune and rap killed the song but however the youtube version wich is the one sung by all the youtube singers collab was super great and showed the true potential of the youtube community.
I think the only wrong thing about the new version is.. a lot of people in that one just want to be famous that way, making people say; "Oh how adorable, my idol is also doing a favour for poor people" while I think some (read: NOT ALL) are just doing it for cash and being more famous. While that's one thing you can NOT say about the people in this version. 1.) They had cash enough I think 2.) They we're famous enough and spending money, ipo getting it.
@julianbinder123 If you ask me that MIGHT be one of the reasons but not the main reasons. Also if people would give me money, it would be for NOT singing haha :)
And I think their not, my opinion. And why would I sing it ? I already do my part by uploading this video. So please.. shush.. I did not do this one for Haïti btw, I did it for the love of the world. and I like this movie :)
this version is so much better than the new one! this version makes me want to sing whereas the new version makes me want to turn off all music. this is not against any of the artists in the new version. i just think some things should not be messed with!
1:17 - 1:42 & 2:40 - 2:51 are the prettiest parts of the song, in my opinion. I wish they didn't add a rap in the remake one, it sounds so stupid with it. The original is definitely nicer without it
I love Micheal jackson R.I.P and this is the original one and can never be copied, but it is nice to see a newer version come out with the people of our generation.
Honestly, if they had taken out a few people, it would have been okay. I had a problem with the rappers and the pop stars. The only ones I thought were okay were Celine Dion, Josh Groban, Tony Bennett, and Barbara Streisand.
I think there's a big difference between the pop that MJ did and The Beatles did and whatnot and the stuff we hear today like Miley Cyrus and The jonas Brothers.
maybe but i dont hear the jonas on the radio. miley barely. but what about the kind of pop daughtry does? or diary of jane by breaking benjamin. i thought miley's part was good. but i gues troll be trollin.
"Diary of Jane" is more modern rock than pop. Daughtry is pop, though. The only pop I'm a fan of is The Beatles kind of pop. I'm not a huge MJ fan, but I can respect his music.
I have to disagree. Mary J., Jamie Foxx, Wyclef, Bebe winans, Usher, MaryMary are all amazing singers. As far as the rap part, it's apart of music today. It should have been shorter and only as long as the singers parts were but it was still appropriate. I'm sure people in Haiti listen to rap. I hear what you're saying but the people you said weren't the only amazing artist in the video.
I forgot about those people. Yes, they're all great singers, but I think there are much more accomplished musicians out there.
What I found really funny was that Lil' Wayne, who was recently indited, was called in to do a song about changing the world. Also, I find it funny that most of the people who did the original song are still alive and could have been called in. MJ could have been replaced by old footage of him, and Jamie Foxx could have done his Ray Charles impression.
@IronAndSteelTilDeath I think Foxx mimicked Ray in one part. I freaking hate the autotune now. In modern times, voice isn't a gift or a skill anymore. Everyone uses electronics, technology, and artificial sound effects over classic raw voice and sounds.
While music technology upgraded, the musical talents downgraded generally.
Yea, Jamie Foxx mimcked Ray Charles. He played Ray Charles in the movie Ray.
I agree. I hate autotune. I don't mind things like vocoders as long as they're used skillfully, like how Daft Punk uses them.
But I agree. Musical talent is in decline. We'll never have anyone as poetic as Bob Dylan or with a voice as amazing as Stevie Wonder, or any generation-defining or life-changing songs ever again if music continues like this. It ain't what it used to be.
Every artist in this video had either a great voice, impressive songs melodically and/or lyrically, or even both.
You know what I think this decade's music defined? Sex, drugs, petty relationships, violence, beefing, girls, cars, guns, superficial stuff, and more you can mention.
The decade just lacked the skill, creativity, and the imagination that the previous decades had.
Honestly, I think it's a lack of poetry in music that caused the decline. There have always been songs about sex, drugs, petty relationships, etc. But there's definitely a lot more music about superficial and pointless things nowadays. And it all lacks poetry. They come out and say what they want to say. There's nothing metaphorical or thought-provoking. I think that stuff is important, which is why I think Bob Dylan is one of the greatest songwriters of all time.
@IronAndSteelTilDeath Another thing disappointing is some artists this decade makes songs with words that show vague meanings and some faux music critics and lovers claim these artists are metaphorical or lyrical geniuses.
And I hate how they make up words to rhyme. In my art class, there's a group of students who like to blast Lil' Wayne from their phones. I hear him say a line, then end the next line by singing the alphabet because it rhymes. And I'm thinking, "How ridiculous is this?"
@IronAndSteelTilDeath I know right? Man Lil Wayne is never a great lyricist. Eminem may beef a lot in his raps, bet Eminem surely pawns him.
The abrupt transitions in thoughts and words of modern songs is so unforgivable. Don't get me started on the vocal skills of artists. Most people become singers coz they're hot, sexy, ripped, cute, handsome, and exotic. It's so sad. They need to read a lot and listen a lot to any reference that contains lots of wits, knowledge, and imagination.
Hip-hop used to be good. I still love The Roots because they play instruments and are poetic and they can actually rhyme properly.
I agree, most people become singers nowadays because they're good-looking, Whereas before, people became good-looking because they were singers, because there was talent and substance behind this person.
Why compare the two? I think it's more important that we focus on what they mean. Arguing over it just demeans both of their purposes and drags focus from their meaning.
Well... a lot of us do, I just posted this because I like what they are doing. and I don't even react on the compares, but I don't mind people posting their opinion =)
Just don't expect this video to disappear if you want it to *poof* Hahaha :)
This version has more SOUL and LOVE in it. It's not just the biggest pop stars singing. This makes you FEEL something. I don't understand why people want to mess with something so good. They should have just made an entirely new song for this generation.
Wow, you forget how many amazing singers contributed to this. You also forget how great of a talent Michael Jackson was before he was surrounded by so much controversy and bizarre behaviour.
So many people are complaining about the new version, and while I don't think it is as good as the original, it takes into account that this is the music that is popular now to appeal to younger people. I think they could have gotten a few bigger names in there, but overall I think they did a good job with it and it still has the right message... people coming together to help their fellow man in a time of need.
I also think it's important to reach the youth with this message, but I got inspired by this version and never heard the new one before, I hope someone can send it to me in a message or something. I hear people here complaining or comparing and I would like to take a peek myself =) I must also say that I am only 17 myself.. but this hit me pretty hard.
wow i cant believe people agree with jay-z....seriously do u realize the cause i don't give a dam if u think this is untouchable, u think Michael would had disagree with remaking it?? he would had support it,l its his song period. people stop being ignorant and naive people is dying any help its good.....
R.I.P Michael and this is hela better than the new one! The freaking Disney Channel stars can no sing for shit! Justin Beiber needs to hit puberty or something cause he sounds like a ten year old! God do i loveeee this version sooo mutch better:)
well its not possible to beat the orginal considering people like justin FAIL beiber and miley cryus are included in the new mix compared to the orginal mix who had ray charles, qunicy jones, lead singer from journey, stievie wonders AND MUCH MORE.... not saying todays artists are bad, just saying hard to beat the original with all theses legends
I enjoyed them both. i think it would have been even better on the newest if they could have got the original group and mixed them in with the new group. either way its great. im not a huge MJ fan but KUDOS to him.
Thank you Ray Charles...Pure Magic that he happened to sing and play music !!

@IronAndSteelTilDeath Another thing disappointing is some artists this decade makes songs with words that show vague meanings and some faux music critics and lovers claim these artists are metaphorical or lyrical geniuses.
jfrd28 1 year ago
@jfrd28 vague but senseless and pointless

And I hate how they make up words to rhyme. In my art class, there's a group of students who like to blast Lil' Wayne from their phones. I hear him say a line, then end the next line by singing the alphabet because it rhymes. And I'm thinking, "How ridiculous is this?"
IronAndSteelTilDeath 1 year ago
@IronAndSteelTilDeath I know right? Man Lil Wayne is never a great lyricist. Eminem may beef a lot in his raps, bet Eminem surely pawns him.
The abrupt transitions in thoughts and words of modern songs is so unforgivable. Don't get me started on the vocal skills of artists. Most people become singers coz they're hot, sexy, ripped, cute, handsome, and exotic. It's so sad. They need to read a lot and listen a lot to any reference that contains lots of wits, knowledge, and imagination.
jfrd28 1 year ago
Hip-hop used to be good. I still love The Roots because they play instruments and are poetic and they can actually rhyme properly.
I agree, most people become singers nowadays because they're good-looking, Whereas before, people became good-looking because they were singers, because there was talent and substance behind this person.
Basically, music isn't smart anymore.
IronAndSteelTilDeath 1 year ago 2
@IronAndSteelTilDeath I agree to that. It just makes me mourn. Maybe this is really what Don MacLean meant with "The day the music died"

@IronAndSteelTilDeath Didn't like Enrique Iglesias? He sounded like he's courting a girl Latino-style

I'm not hugely familiar with his work. But he's an okay singer, I guess.

I can rate his performance to Kenny Loggins' performance in this vid.

This is true gifted voices. No autotunes and other computer-generated effects for vocals.

Singing days vs Auto Tuning days.

Why compare the two? I think it's more important that we focus on what they mean. Arguing over it just demeans both of their purposes and drags focus from their meaning.
turboblazer 1 year ago 3
People will always compare =\
Well... a lot of us do, I just posted this because I like what they are doing. and I don't even react on the compares, but I don't mind people posting their opinion =)
Just don't expect this video to disappear if you want it to *poof* Hahaha :)

This version has more SOUL and LOVE in it. It's not just the biggest pop stars singing. This makes you FEEL something. I don't understand why people want to mess with something so good. They should have just made an entirely new song for this generation.

beautiful, they tries to change it, but it will never reach this version's heights

I think they could have gotten a few bigger names in there, but overall I think they did a good job with it and it still has the right message... people coming together to help their fellow man in a time of need.
sacredsiren 1 year ago 4
I also think it's important to reach the youth with this message, but I got inspired by this version and never heard the new one before, I hope someone can send it to me in a message or something. I hear people here complaining or comparing and I would like to take a peek myself =) I must also say that I am only 17 myself.. but this hit me pretty hard.

well its not possible to beat the orginal considering people like justin FAIL beiber and miley cryus are included in the new mix compared to the orginal mix who had ray charles, qunicy jones, lead singer from journey, stievie wonders AND MUCH MORE.... not saying todays artists are bad, just saying hard to beat the original with all theses legends
graystripe69 1 year ago 3
@graystripe69 couldn't have said it better myself!
monicalee23 1 year ago
I enjoyed them both. i think it would have been even better on the newest if they could have got the original group and mixed them in with the new group. either way its great. im not a huge MJ fan but KUDOS to him.
