Also make P.E. minatory no matter the grade level. Bring P.E. back to schools & while on the topic, bring back Music, Art, and Social Studies too. I want the people in my town, my city, my state to be educated, rational people. In my view, the gov chooses these priorities and then creates the incentives and environment for progress. Prices in the market are ultimately based upon supply and demand.
A guaranteed loan, theoretically allows colleges to charge whatever price they want - the payment will be 'guaranteed' or still demanded at that price.
Now, if the majority of students are going to school through financial aid, guaranteed loans, etc, this skews prices above 'market demand'. We have had a continual increase in # of students using gov. aid to attend college - colleges can charge more.

Depends on your major and which loans you're asking for. Due to my major in education I don't have to pay for my loans. Of course, I have to work in Dade-county for three years. Though I might not have to limit myself working in Dade, because the other day I checked my lenders' account and the money I owe went from $16,000 to $7,000. Also my interest rate is from 1 to 2 % depending on the loan, so I don't know which loan you're talking about but they're a rip off and I would stay clear from.
@raazstone Wow they're high. When my mom signs for one from them, she gets an interest rate of just 1.5%. Currently my interest rates are non-existent. Then again I didn't do mines through Sallie Mae, instead I did mines through Bank of America. I don't know what advise I could give other than try a different place. Also you need to check your GPA because that affects the interest rate. This is the reason my moms' interest rate is so low, her GPA is high (3.8). Anyways best of luck. Peace.

I'm thankful for these reforms that are taking place and I am proud to say that I helped campaign for President Obama during 2009. I honestly don't see what people are complaining about, I love this man. He has nothing but good intentions for America and I'm absolutely confident that he will make this country the best it's ever been.

Did you got some of the funding from your university? I know that some colleges and universities are passing out certain scholarships for students who already signed up for a major. I understand there are still many more things our president needs to do, but I wish he would get rid of unnecessary state standardize exams that force teachers to just focus on test taking, so they can use that time to actually teach something useful, productive and meaningful to students. Also make P.E. minatory no matter the grade level. Bring P.E. back to schools & while on the topic, bring back Music, Art, and Social Studies too. I want to teach History the way it needs to be taught. Peace.

@DojoNDude yep. But, IMO, the artificially high tuitionm prices will still remain, and therefore the tax-payer and student is still on the hook for these artificially high prices. This legislation addresses a symptom (price), and the cause of that symptom - guaranteed loans - still remains.
My original point was: student loans, being used to their current degree, is more a gov. creation, than a consumer-demand or free-market creation, which drives up prices.

I want the people in my town, my city, my state to be educated, rational people. In my view, the gov chooses these priorities and then creates the incentives and environment for progress. Why should all this differ to the market, as if the market should control humanity and not the other way around?

Prices in the market are ultimately based upon supply and demand.
A guaranteed loan, theoretically allows colleges to charge whatever price they want - the payment will be 'guaranteed' or still demanded at that price.
Now, if the majority of students are going to school through financial aid, guaranteed loans, etc, this skews prices above 'market demand'. We have had a continual increase in # of students using gov. aid to attend college - colleges can charge more.

It means higher prices on goods and services and lower standards of living then our parents. You may have lower student loans payment but at what price to our economy. The Government is going to tell you to buy healthcare or turn you over to the IRS to fine you and yes they do have the power to put you in jail for tax evasion.. They are going to tell you what kind of care you must purchase weather you want it or not. Forcing people to take responsibility is taking away their freedom to choose. What else do you think Government should by law make you do, eat tofu?

@quizerry i think they just want you to have insurance bro. if you make so little that you get money from filing taxes, then not only will you not be fined, you'll also get help to pay for insurance. also the IRS is involved in the fining mechanism but i believe the bill prohibits the IRS from doing extreme things based on it (i'm not sure about jail specifically though)

$940 billion over ten years is 85 cents a day for every man woman and child in this country. How are you going to insure 30 million more people and cut my premiums by $2500 as you have said, if I am only going to contribute $313 a year to get all this? The answer is YOU CAN"T. What about the big interest rates on student loans???
Banks get money from Federal Reserve for around zero interest and charge students in excess of 6 percent for the loan, how is this fair?

Depends on your major and which loans you're asking for. Due to my major in education I don't have to pay for my loans. Of course, I have to work in Dade-county for three years. Though I might not have to limit myself working in Dade, because the other day I checked my lenders' account and the money I owe went from $16,000 to $7,000. Also my interest rate is from 1 to 2 % depending on the loan, so I don't know which loan you're talking about but they're a rip off and I would stay clear from.

@raazstone Wow they're high. When my mom signs for one from them, she gets an interest rate of just 1.5%. Currently my interest rates are non-existent. Then again I didn't do mines through Sallie Mae, instead I did mines through Bank of America. I don't know what advise I could give other than try a different place. Also you need to check your GPA because that affects the interest rate. This is the reason my moms' interest rate is so low, her GPA is high (3.8). Anyways best of luck. Peace.

I am currently a high school student who has just been accepted into a university. I'm thankful for these reforms that are taking place and I am proud to say that I helped campaign for President Obama during 2009. I honestly don't see what people are complaining about, I love this man. He has nothing but good intentions for America and I'm absolutely confident that he will make this country the best it's ever been.

Did you got some of the funding from your university? I know that some colleges and universities are passing out certain scholarships for students who already signed up for a major. I know I got a $1,300 scholarship, due to the schools' budget getting up,and I wasn't qualified for finical aid this year. I think it was because of Obama. He is making it possible for me to graduate, which is why I don't know why there are so many haters. He is doing a lot for people, especially for students. Peace.
