  • No. Many experienced climbers have been able to reach the summit without supplementary oxygen. Obviously, you have to be experienced climber. I'm assuming the guy who did it was experienced considering he was the leader.

  • anybody know how to go about organizing a trip to climb everest? i have heard that it's very expensive (like 40-50k). If someone could send me to some info about that I'd appreciate it

  • you can go through a guided company, check out something like climb magazine for companys that will do it for about £20,000.

    I think you could do it yourself for about £12000 though.

    my science teacher is freinds with conrad anker. They are both geologists and went to the same college.

    I think I could take McKinley, but everest is just too much. I couldn't take seeing all the dead frozen bodies, and the ferocious winds. And the cost.

  • If there is a local mountaneering club/group in your city, join. They will give classes about arctic climbing skills and all the stuff you need to bag these giant peaks. It takes a lot of training and money to climb everest, so you should start out with McKinley, Rainier, Killimanjaro, and things like that. Also, go backpacking a lot. Go ahead and send me a message if you'd like to know more, or you could probobly use google to find some good mountaneering sites.

  • i do a little mountain climbing, but nothing really high. I live in alaska though home to McKinley, so I plan on climbing it when I'm eighteen years old. Where do you live?

  • why would they explode?acclimatization is your body getting used to having less oxygen, your blood get thicker when the atmosphere is thinner,most already know this,but exploding, its highly improbable, but you might get hape and hace. Thank you for your time, may god be with you.......AWAY

  • Hey I'm not gonna try to contradict you thetribefiji because I don't know my facts but wouldn't your lungs explode if you went straight to the bottom from the air pressure change? You have to have time to acclimatize.

  • If you were to take a deep breath at the summit, and hold it while being taken to the top... perhaps then your lungs could "explode". Going from top to bottom, your lungs would implode (only if you weren't breathing the whole time). You can get "the bends" from being under great pressure and not taking proper time to decompress.

    it annoys me that little debates start up on these comments but just with regards to 'apple guy17' the first pair to paraglide off the summit was a year or so ago if i remember correctly so it is possible to "just jump"... takes some of the point out of mountaineering though if you ask me.

  • the air is too thin to jump down from everest. If you opened a parachute it would just fold on itself and not catch any air. you'd hit the rock face before the air was thick enough to deploy it.
