When I did this it would not let me do anything and there was a little key next to each partition. I also tried this as root and I had the same problem.

Well, but after some time try to normally install Linux as your OS not using wubi :)
@webnull i will! Last time i did try installing it as my os and oi couldnt boot into xp just the underscore kept blinking

I prefer EXT-3
ubuntu 9.10 will use ext4 which I've heard it's faster to access. so I guess ext4 is better.

(ext-3) vs (ext-4) = 1:1
