Since learning about these guys a few years ago at school they have been at the top of the list for me. Such a great group of musicians, and wonderful sound. I don't think it's possible to listen to Strasbourg without a big smile or a little lilt in your step. Also, being a pianist, the keys are some the funkiest and freshest I've heard. Brilliant group Mister Hargrove!
greatest dynamic between band members. Everyone is appreciating each other and Hargrove doesnt dominate like most leaders. Everyone brings something to the table. The type of group dynamics I would die for to find in my next band.
@CptChaos88 Hey guys, let's do some teamwork! I was thinking about transcribing the alto-solo any day because there are such delightful moments in it..
These guys are amazing. You can tell instantly that they fit together perfectly. There ability to build through solos and still keep the constant groove is so special! Shivers
I love the subtle transition beween the players. it shows true musicianship towards the band as a whole. by that I mean they're having a blast doing this. haha Check out the drummer, he's fuckin killin it
4:40-4:42 "sorry mrs. jackson" :P and the right before that, the pass that leads into the staccato playing is awesome. if you're a jazz musician you know what i'm talking about haha. a tension pass ment to be played through and the band stops! i love it! such a great performance by everyone. i love hargrove.
This must be one of the greatest example of melodic inventiveness in recent years. This is what jazz is all about! It makes me feel 20 years younger overnight!
Ahh!!! The live version has so much soul in it! Of course the recorded version does too, but they open their hearts out to this show! WOW!! True musicians right there. You know that if you get the entire house groovin' then you've done your job.
whoa...is that eric marienthal in the audience? Roy Hargrove should be ashamed of himself, making me wanna practice and disturb my neighbors at 1 in the morning...tsk tsk...
9'31 - 9'39 - one of the best examples of a band taking an out idea and passing it round, then just locking back in, that i have EVER heard. Ridiculous.
