  • Ohhhh , so nice !

  • the only thing missing from this is a dope mc!

  • also, i love the aggression in the drums

  • @DreamingOfJupiter yeah hes ragin cajun

  • how ironic is that white bass player

  • @DreamingOfJupiter why is that ironic?

  • Since learning about these guys a few years ago at school they have been at the top of the list for me. Such a great group of musicians, and wonderful sound. I don't think it's possible to listen to Strasbourg without a big smile or a little lilt in your step. Also, being a pianist, the keys are some the funkiest and freshest I've heard. Brilliant group Mister Hargrove!

  • does it for me!

  • ééééé rsrs

  • Gerald Clayton! What a touch on the piano...

  • that isn't a flugelhorn...

  • greatest dynamic between band members. Everyone is appreciating each other and Hargrove doesnt dominate like most leaders. Everyone brings something to the table. The type of group dynamics I would die for to find in my next band.

  • Justin Robinson just oozed soul all over those women

  • The woman's face at 11:29 is the epitome of "once you go black you never go back"

  • @uubboy14 LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 6:21 THE LICK. embellished!

  • hahah 4:40 quote outkast

  • @EaRsInTuneRealizEA yeah right after that roy plays what sounds like a bit of the chorus to Mrs Jackson haha

  • Ah man.. now I can't wait to play with him in February!

  • Roy has dubbed this the "one-star hotel" song...funny story to hear him tell it.

Kandie Le Britain Webster in Washington State USA ~ jazzylover59

  • The best!

  • This live dvd was filmed in July 2007.

  • Gerald. Really? Man!

  • This song is catchy, he should sell it for a commercial "Sidewinder" style and make a shitload of money

  • I'm seeing the Roy Hargrove quintet tonight in Santa Cruz, Ca. Y'all jealous much?

  • @JoeR14 That was an incredible show, oh man!

  • @JoeR14 Saw him in San Francisco last month!!! Played this tune at the end, and his pianist was killer too!

  • @JoeR14 I get to play with him at the Telluride Jazz Festival this summer. Now who is jealous? ;)

  • Roy Hargrove is the shit.

  • Oh my!

    Gerald Clayton?

  • this is so great, i have to cry!

  • Gerald Rips like no other. So good!

  • 2:56-3:02 Such nice licks!

  • Pure essence of jazz...thanks.

  • Haha i love how hard it is for Roy to make a better solo than Gerald (the pianist) after he went nuts on the piano :D awesomeness on a high level!

  • 9:45 - What tune did he quote?

  • @dan1880712125847 i think…segment? but i don't know whose the song is…(sorry for my bad english) my god what a groove

  • @dan1880712125847 Segment by charlie parker

  • oh my god that piano solo!!! So funky

  • anyone wanna transcribe Gerald's piano and share it? haha I'd love you for it

  • @JazziJBC Why don't you transcribe it yourself? transcribing is great for all musicians to do.

  • u go ROY!!!!i love this track!!!awesome...the piano player is killing this as well!!and drummer...DOPE SHIT!!!

  • Why is it only showing my views? :P

  • 3000 of these views are MINE FOR SURE!!!\

  • 9:34 to 9:40......OH MY GOD!!!!!!!

  • the best lick at 9:20 to 9:30

  • did anyone transcribe the trumpet solo? wanta hook me up? Thanks much!

  • @threetrumpeteers

i was thinking about it. if I do so, I'll let you know. for Bb Trumpet?

  • @CptChaos88 Hey guys, let's do some teamwork! I was thinking about transcribing the alto-solo any day because there are such delightful moments in it..

  • @incognitotraveler

sounds good, when I have time I take a look at the tpt solo cause it's full of nice chops. I'm not a trumpet-player though...

  • @CptChaos88 hey, yes for Bb trumpet. Please do let me know if you transcribe it. Thanks!

  • These guys are amazing. You can tell instantly that they fit together perfectly. There ability to build through solos and still keep the constant groove is so special! Shivers

  • gotta love Roy's little dance step at 00:40 :D

  • fricken mad as hell!!

  • Listened to this in the library with headphones in. Started dancing in my seat without realizing it. Looked like an idiot. Worth it.

  • Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez, this is so groovy, I can hardly believe it

  • JUSTIN ROBINSON IS KILLING IT!!! AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

  • i've probably listened to this like 10 times the past two days.. ahh it's just so good! i love everything about this video!

  • Elijah Wood on bass

  • So stylish

  • The transition to Robinson gave me all kinds of goose bumps! Definitely going to transcribe some of that

  • 最高!!!!!!(><)

  • It's ALL about 3:39/3:40 when Clayton plays the melody theme and it's so i time with Coleman's snare . . . oh baby

  • Yeah, it's all about Gerald Clayton's comping. Dude is a genius.

  • I love the subtle transition beween the players. it shows true musicianship towards the band as a whole. by that I mean they're having a blast doing this. haha Check out the drummer, he's fuckin killin it

  • Oh Man. Robinson makes sweet love to his Alto right here. 8:36 - 8:54... sigh. so damn good.

  • Who the hell disliked this video?

  • 4:40-4:42 "sorry mrs. jackson" :P and the right before that, the pass that leads into the staccato playing is awesome. if you're a jazz musician you know what i'm talking about haha. a tension pass ment to be played through and the band stops! i love it! such a great performance by everyone. i love hargrove.

  • Roy really only plays trumpet in this song. Flugelhorn must have been used for other tunes.

  • This must be one of the greatest example of melodic inventiveness in recent years. This is what jazz is all about! It makes me feel 20 years younger overnight!

  • @xtremerrp it's on the album "Earfood" (2008)

  • @xtremerrp Studio version on the album called "Earfood"

  • @xtremerrp or try earfood.

  • Strasbourg St Denis is more known for its prostitutes than this fantastic song :(

  • Ahh!!! The live version has so much soul in it! Of course the recorded version does too, but they open their hearts out to this show! WOW!! True musicians right there. You know that if you get the entire house groovin' then you've done your job.

  • I absolutely LOVE this song!!!

  • YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH

  • WOOOOW. what an epic groove... i love it

  • 3:15 this is Joe Pesci?

  • @danaevee7 oh and gerald comping is speechless

  • very FUNK stuff !...

  • My band is covering this tune, so much fun on the drums, just hold the groove down!

  • always so sad when this song ends!

    Its so good!

  • whoa...is that eric marienthal in the audience? Roy Hargrove should be ashamed of himself, making me wanna practice and disturb my neighbors at 1 in the morning...tsk tsk...

  • only jazz

  • Love this moment 06:15

  • Man Roy is such a beast. What a monster player!

  • people heed my warning:

whatever you do, do NOT listen to Candy Dulfer play this song.

After listening to this, it will make you hate white jazz players and women instrumentalists...

  • @pacmagicman Pathetic racist bullshit.

  • 9'31 - 9'39 - one of the best examples of a band taking an out idea and passing it round, then just locking back in, that i have EVER heard. Ridiculous.

And the look on Montez's face is priceless when he hooks in.

Jesus christ these guys are so good it gives you energy..

  • "Hi, my name is Roy Hargrove!" -"Hi Roy! What do you do for a living?" -"I write awesome and freakishly catchy tunes, man!"

  • 09:46 - Diverse :)

  • Roy performed @ the Chicago Jazz Fest 2011. IT was TOO LIVE !!! Sharp movement and on point.

  • they should call this video Roy Hargrove- blows my mind everytime

  • That Drummer!!!

  • I probably look like I'm having a seizure when ever I listen to this. Not moving is just not natural, to this anyway. This is so groovin and soulful its unbelievable. Just makes me remember why Roy is my favorite trumpet man.

  • EB Coleman told me one time

(its what not to play that's important)

  • Makes you move!!!!!!!

  • Some of the best musicians on this planet!

Rub A little Funk on it.

  • damn

  • I love that you can't see the dislike bar.

  • This is full of funk feelings! Relaxed, comfortable well together and playfully

    We like you :)

  • i don't know why, but when ever i see a drummer like montez coleman who always

is super energitic, i feel giddy

  • whom ever disliked this is obviously an idiot with ZERO musical knowledge and has no taste what so ever. Even if you don't care for Jazz, one must appreciate this.

  • roy at 7:26 "yo man what the fuck dont being it down yet!"

  • @caniplaydrumsforyou right man!
