The commercial has black people and chicken in it therefore it is racist... COME ON, black people can't be in a KFC ad because they are black seriously that statement in itself is racist. It's got nothing to do with black people, its an opposing teams stand but Americans are refusing to listen to context because they are so scared of their own racist past they see racism everywhere.
You guys can sugar coat it all day long. But it's so obvious you'd have to be blind. It's not even like he was eating it. He just pulled it out like bait to drive away the focus.
I found the commercial hilarious but I'm offended that people are defending it like they didn't intend it. Stop bullshitting me really... They invested into this and didn't notice something so simple? pfft give it up that logic isn't going far.
@WizPigTactics nothing is being suger coated, nobody actually eats the chicken in the ad it just gets shared around. American sterotypes do not apply to Australia the Windies or cricket. Read into it whatever the hell you want, if you see racism your the one with issues.
@P3B34r It's exactly how black stereotypes don't apply in China but they pulled the same thing with a Barack Obama ad. Yeah I don't buy that argument...
No one reads into an ad that defeats the purpose and is counter productive... an ad inputs quick images in the viewers' minds. The other guy to his left seemed unaffected and isn't dancing btw so it's a careless ad. I still found it hilarious...
@WizPigTactics Never seen a Chinese ad but this ad is not racist. The ad would have been the same had we of been playing England, he would have been surrounded by poms, had we been playing India they would have all been Indian. In fact this is part of a series of ads where the guy gives away chicken to watch cricket, one to his inlaws, one to bribe a security guard, another one he bribes a ticket scalper. Nobody in Australia even looked at skin colour they saw Windies fans.
@P3B34r I'm just saying it's pushing the stereotype and it's not like KFC is unaware of it either. Don't plead for KFC's ignorance... clearly the higher ups research these things internationally. I think you're misinterpreting the issue we're talking about KFC not Australians... they do it here as well so there's no excuse.
@WizPigTactics KFC Australia is a seperate organization to KFC America that is licensed to use the brand. I work in advertising and I can assure you most local campaigns for never go back to the states for approval. The ad would have been produced by an ad agency in Australia not in America. Most advertising people are idiots anyway but the point is just because a sterotype exists in america doesnt mean it exist in the rest of the world.
It was never meant to be shown in America but that's got nothing to do with the sterotypes Americans have, it was for a local campaign for cricket sponsorship and a meal deal. KFC Australia doesn't even have the same menu as KFC in America, the chicken is the same but everything else is different.
@P3B34r It still represents the image if the whole company. If you think about it if something were to happen in court KFC would have to clarify the individual action taken by the brand in order to prevent damages.
But putting that aside, to have to forgive 1/5 videos depicting the same thing around the world... I can't ignore KFC on this. This outcry we Black American's supposedly have is a stereotype in itself. Black people born after the1968 approach this with humor not anger.
@WizPigTactics The only thing pushing this sterotype on Australias are Americans, it's unlikley Americans worked on the campaign unless they were working for an ad agency or kfc in Australia so its not likley your sterotypes were considered. Americans can be over-sensitive when it comes to sterotypes. We have sterotypes here but no-one would get over sensitive about it. We even make fun of our own - here its ok to joke about it as long as there is no malice
@WizPigTactics Well we will have to agree to disagree... IMO CONTEXT IS EVERYTHING, and Americans are applying their own context to an ad that was intended for a different audience. KFC ads in Australia are not produced by KFC America, KFC might be racist in the states KFC I wouldn't know but thats not really whats going on here. We never heard of these sterotypes until Americans picked up on an ad intended for a different market.
This ad isn't even about African Americans. The West Indians were touring Aus when this ad came out. The ad is about being stuck in the middle of opposition supporters. The fact they're black is irrelevant. Idiots.
OMG there are black people in the Ad, I thought they were green. Now I know they are black I see it must be racist because you can't have black people on TV and not be racist *SARCASM*
guaranteed 99% of blacks truly are not offended by this, but say they are and use shit like this to skate by in our politically correct society that actually gives minorities advantages
Same, I don't get how its racist. Just because most of the people are black and its a chicken commercial? If that is why your all too sensitive, calm your shit (:
@Hem3fiction looked into the Aboriginal situation much? while i don't think this commercial is offensive (i'm more offended by it as a vegetarian than i am as a person of color), Aussies are known for being notoriously racist & narrow-minded when it comes to race relations...check the history of the Aborigines. i also had the misfortune of having dinner w/ some Aussies last month who visited the US for the first time, & the ignorant shit that was spewing from their mouths was unbelievable.
@lmbrao2g yeah i looked into the Aboriginal history, there was no slavery. Australians are known for their racism because we are open to racial issues, i admit, we make racial jokes but we don't consider it racist. We make fun of ourselves but we don't look down upon anyone when we tell a joke, it's Aussie humour. I have a Thai friend who makes fun of us and we all think it's funny.
i can't believe you're offended cos you're a vegetarian... wtf? (continued)
@Hem3fiction Oh, don't worry on this too much. As long as you don't have slavery or the KKK as part of your history you're doing better than we are...
@lmbrao2g (continued) and what did this Australian say who came to the US? Did he make racist comments or offended you? Why was it unfortunate... because he was Australian? Jee Wizz if i said we had an unfortunate situation of bringing an African American to our home it's a racist comment to you isn't it? But it's not when you say it's an Australian.
@Hem3fiction that was a joke to imply that i was offended by it as a vegetarian, minimizing its offense to me as a person of color. get it? and it was an unfortunate situation because they (two older women) were ignorant and made disparinging remarks about black Americans the first time they got to meet an American person of color. i'm not easily offended at all, but these old biddies took shit too far. and they only represent themselves, not all Australians, obviously.
@lmbrao2g i still don't get it. But what did they actually say to offend you? You are telling me they made disgusting remarks about African Americans but how am i suppose to know if it's offensive?
@lmbrao2g "misfortune of having dinner w/ some Aussies" say that about a black dude and everyone would be like "dats racist". Youre an idiot. Also, your American, your stupidity is world renowned
@Bilgen07 it's "you're American" you fuckhead. and "dats" should have an apostrophe. go back to second grade before you fuck with me, you dickhole. obviously, i meant that it was "unfortunate" because they were extremely ignorant. read the whole comment before you get your panties bunched up in your tight ass and get all excited over what a dumb American thinks.
@lmbrao2g checked out your own lately. Australia has never had slavery, and what about Native Americans. Americans are know for being notoriously loud and annoying. You know what I've been to America, and worked with Americans and most are not loud and annoying nor did they think we are racist, we get along quiet well. You give your country a bad name.
@P3B34r i am not sure what "your own" means. i represent for no one else other than myself. i am not ethnocentric enough to do that, nor do i give anyone a bad name, because i only represent myself. don't make those assumptions. yes, Australia never officially had slavery...yet how did they treat the Aborigines? you must not know the history, and that's sad. further, if you got along with Americans, that's great. you get a gold star and a cookie, dude.
@lmbrao2g Australian history is irreverent... don't tell me that its any worse then American or other country really. Australia is extremely mufti-cultural. You are the one labeling all Australians are racists and that having dinner with a group of Aussies was a misfortune. Maybe they were bogans I don't know but they don't represent all of Australia now do they.
Why is this racist? American Blacks love chicken like Italians love Pizza or like Irish Like Beer. The GOD DAMN JEW starts this RACIST SHIT to pit every race against the other. Hey People of all races WAKE up and SEE who the REAL ENEMY IS? Dont confuse WHITE PEOPLE with Jews Zionist Commiethat look like European whites and that rule everyone. However the Judeo christian whites help them maintain this domination over the world and are the dumb asses that will fight and kill others for Israel.
People just need to understand that not everything is based on American culture. Get over yourselves and accept that the rest of the world doesn't have the same set of racial hangups as you happen to.
@darkshadow2341 we respect them, how about the Catholics in Ireland start respecting the Protestants and so on and obviously vice versa, no country is perfect.
@irishgodfatherchris thats the north of ireland diffrent country i have many proestant friend and i dont belive in god so i dont care what religon some one is any way the war in the north of ireland is it about religon the english make it out to be but its about land some protestants what to live in the republic get your facts right because i studied this in school so i know what im talking about so stfu if you were really irish you would no this
@irishgodfatherchris Sinn Féin was founded on 28 November 1905 before northern ireland even existence and fuck Gerry Adams he used to call the irish republic and the Dail a tin pot government now he thinks he can come down hear and tell us what to do fuck him i used to respect Sinn Fein now there just traitors and before you tell me about my history you should do some research the war in the north wasn't a religious war! its is about land it will always be about land not religion!
In what way are you able to speak for these people? Your American, they are West Indian... its like me saying the holocaust was ok because im white and so were the jews.
if anyone understood cricket and the cultures that enjoy the game you would see that this add is not racist. The crowd is from the west indies a nation that plays cricket... they are very loud because they bring musical instruments and play them and dance whilst at games, where the australian guy just wants to peacefully watch the cricket, so he pulls out the KFC box during a series between Aus and West indies (co-incidental to the steriotype of african americans like chicken)
@willemik1 its hilarious without the knowledge of American stereotypes... because we laugh at the white guy being the only fan for his team. Americans see racism because they are too PC they look too hard and find it everywhere
Stereotyping is racism. Its ignorant for ppl to say "african american people like chicken and watermelon" everyone loves chicken and watermelon and if u don't ur missing out and I feel bad for u. I feel bad for all u racist people you will never know what it feels like to look beyond such a simple thing as skin color and live your life worrying about other shit that actually matters. I hope michaels dream for america comes true someday. Just won't be in my generation. Smh. Sad sad sad. RIP MJ
Would it be "less racist" if we offered out guns (for the American following) or drugs (for the South American Following and UK following) or BEER for my fellow Aussies...... For F**K sake - it's an ADVERTISEMENT. No one pays attention to stuff like this. Can believe people are all cranky pants about something so silly....shouldn't we be wining about the bloody carbon taxes or something equally worthy. Seriously dudes - GET A FARKING LIFE
@kaligirl1971 For a name like Kaligirl u must be some blonde conservitive Bitch who has no idea of what has taken place. For all your Carbon Tax Yahooism ur a constent slave to reverse think tank engeering, right wing left wing this ad is FROM AN AMERICAN COMPANY U DITZ! K IN KFC IS FOR WHAT? And I queued up some cricket game and their sponsers are not all chicket companys quit defecting u silly sambo ass bitch and get off the chicken box!!!! nuff said SUCK BALLS
hey - why don't we put a whopper out there instead??? Is that still racism??? In Australia Cricket is sponsored by the chicken companies (KFC, Red Rooster and Chicken Treat), Australian Rules football is sponsored by Hungry jacks (Burger King for the non Australians) - so you really need live here to understand things.
this video has nothing to do with America. Once again America takes their small narrow minded prejudices as the only way to view the world.
RACISM - does not exist in Australia - we treat everyone with the same contempt! Including Americans. It's a sponsorship advert for Cricket (which America can't play anyway) so why the hell is American Media passing judgement on something they don't understand. Smells like Afghanistan/Iraq all over again. Clean up your own backyard b4 u pass judgement
guys get it right this isnt sexist, its racist... I would do the same if stuck in an army of black people dancing to drums. That is my #1 reason why i havent went to a roots concert.
this is clearly racist even if it was not intended to be! you cant control how the audience recieves something! and what i saw was a white man trying to calm down black people by giving them chicken! regardless of how it was intended it gives off all the wrong messages! i am supruised that no one said anything about the ad before it sas aired and it just seemed like an ok thing to show!
I truly believe that especially black people in America would say this is racist, first off. I personally find this commercial funny, but I believe also people just need to lighten the hell up about this. You KNOW that people will always cry, "Racism!" whenever they want someone to change for them. Well, if white people were being made fun of, no one would listen, and just say it was all in good fun or just flat out deny it. Think about it.
@mynameisamberandily Hey, I'm just saying it like it is, stereotypes differ from country to country. The world don't move to the beat of just one drum, what might be right for you, may not be right for some.
DISCLAIMER: I'm black. RAWR! xD anywho, the video is stereotypical, but still funny. besides, i've yet to meet a brotha or sista who DOESNT like 'em some KFC. that white man was smart!
LOL! I'm black and I thought this was really funny. Come on, you can't disrespect funny. xD I don't see how this is racist at ALL. Sometimes people don't actually sit down and see the commercial as whole because they're so blind sided with stupidity. :/
Can't understand why people think this is racist? Its an Aussi dude having some chicken for lunch, then he hands some of the kernels best around to the poor hungry black buggas..;)
@Crocket030970 see people always friggin try and find things wrong and racist about everything thats they can see, like just watch the commercial and shut it thats what i always say
I love fried chicken, and im sure it would be a GREAT crowd pleaser, i dont get how this is racist. So all black people love chicken? Goddamnit if people dont like fried chicken something is fucking wrong with THEM
Does not matter it's still a racist commercial. They should have thought about how it may be perceived by the general public. Handing black people chicken regardless of the cricket theme or not IS RACIST and only in Australia the land of FUCK OFF WERE FULL would they get away with such a commercial.
@fowfhaha I don't think this is racist at all; people are too quick to tag things today, and racist is one of those tags. It might be offensive to the African American population, but I think the Australian Advertising board takes them in to mind to be honest. Don't be such a cynic, it's only racist if you make the connection. Why would you want an ad to be racist?
the only people who find this racist, are the racist themselves, by making the assertion that it's racist for black people to be portrayed as eating chicken.
@roccomont329 ex-fucking-actly, maybe its not seriously racist, but the thought the guy is a white dude giving the black people chicken to pacify them is fucking hilarious, then he says "too easy" rofl.
sooooo funny how people try to give reasoning behind the purpose of the commercial and excuse away the racism...cant we all just be amused by it??? Cackin me up
@irishgodfatherchris Regardless of the ignorance of the topic, and your apparent belief that Americans shouldn't be allowed to have a thought towards this ad or any other ad that doesn't air in our country, it still is on youtube. People still had thoughts, which lead to comments, which lead to a conversation. Conversation is good. Laughter is better. In Australia, this ad meant one thing. In America it meant something different. Differences should be appreciated. People just need to chill out.
@uberpissed no I'm not saying that Americans should not have an opinion, I'm saying that the US should've learnt the context of the ad or not opened its mouth at all
Please also note that in Australia, Fried Chicken is not immediately associated with black people as it is in America. We play the world in sports instead of having a "World Series" with only American teams, so we are used to multicultural sport and so generally are the teams who visit.
People, just think about this for a second. Why would a bunch of black people participate in a commercial if it was going to be racist? That's right, it's not racist
First off, the stereotype that black people love fried chicken generally doesn't exist in Australia. Secondly, the White guy is stuck in an "awkward situation" because he is surrounded by supporters of the West Indies Cricket Team, not because he is surrounded by black people. And thirdly, who the fuck doesnt like fried chicken?
It is racist...All the people were black.. What is he saying that if you give black people chicken they'll stop doing what they are doing? If they were all white and he was black or if he was just black in general it would be such a controversial thing...
im black who cares i like fried chicken we like fried chicken white people cant jump so what its not rasist other than that they choose a whole buntch of black people and what is a astrilian even there for
OK, The white guy is an Australian Cricket Team supporter (that is why he has a green and gold shirt on), he is surrounded by supporters of the West Indies Cricket Team, that is why he is "stuck in an awkward situation". He is using the KFC as a peace offering. KFC were the sponsors of the One Day Cricket series that year. Australia was playing against the West Indies - hopefully that helps, please don't look for racism were none exists.
@Gruingle1 well im sure your right about what you said but its just that the first thing you see is one white guy in a sea of black ppl and he gives them chicken to shut them up and they do. Implying that black ppl are loud and like chicken (stereotypes). im not saying it was on purpose, it just happened.
@dahsick3st hey this is not racist .... stop looking at things as black and white .....Im black and when i saw the title i was like wtf......then i saw it and started to laugh out loud cause i saw the punch line right away ... oh and btw I AM FROM THE CARIBBEAN
@Gruingle1 It's kinda hard to not look for it when it's in the title, just sayin... On the surface, this whole commercial just expresses it. One small detail in here is at :12. When he gives them all the chicken, he couldn't even look them in the face. That's what offended me the most. To me, and this is just my opinion, "you don't have to like me but when you can't look me in the face", I feel disrespected. You're degraded. Im looked at not as a human but a step downward from that...an animal.
@Gruingle1 loop you dumb ass NO ONE SAID You was racist for that fact your country... ITS THE FACT THEY (KFC) IS A US COMPANY WHO KNOWS THIS IS RACIST BACK HOME... IF KFC WAS NOT BASED IN THE US THEN THERE WOULD BE NO FUSS! DAM
This is not a commercial about black people who like fried chicken. This is an add for KFC who were the sponsors of One Day Cricket here in Australia (that is why the guy is wearing a green and gold shirt). He is an Australian cricket supporter surrounded by West Indians (supporters of the West Indian cricket team) that is why he is in trouble, he uses the KFC as a peace offering as he supports the other team!!! God damn we are so over the top PC these days!
I have an American indian friend that I constantly joke with about making me prove who the master race is when he's a smart ass. He tells me not to make him scalp me and feed my parts to the wolves. That's funny shit. We're great friends. Hell, black folks love fried chicken and that is stereotypically funny but KFC wasn't telling the Australians to put on white robes. Damn all of you uptight RACISTS constantly screaming racism.
Lol so true

if anyone understood cricket and the cultures that enjoy the game you would see that this add is not racist. The crowd is from the west indies a nation that plays cricket... they are very loud because they bring musical instruments and play them and dance whilst at games, where the australian guy just wants to peacefully watch the cricket, so he pulls out the KFC box during a series between Aus and West indies (co-incidental to the steriotype of african americans like chicken)

hey - why don't we put a whopper out there instead??? Is that still racism??? In Australia Cricket is sponsored by the chicken companies (KFC, Red Rooster and Chicken Treat), Australian Rules football is sponsored by Hungry jacks (Burger King for the non Australians) - so you really need live here to understand things.
kaligirl1971 4 months ago
this video has nothing to do with America.

Does not matter it's still a racist commercial. They should have thought about how it may be perceived by the general public. Handing black people chicken regardless of the cricket theme or not IS RACIST and only in Australia the land of FUCK OFF WERE FULL would they get away with such a commercial.
fowfhaha 7 months ago
@fowfhaha Are quite finished spouting out bullshit that you have no knowledge on
irishgodfatherchris 7 months ago
@fowfhaha I don't think this is racist at all; people are too quick to tag things today, and racist is one of those tags. It might be offensive to the African American population, but I think the Australian Advertising board takes them in to mind to be honest. Don't be such a cynic, it's only racist if you make the connection. Why would you want an ad to be racist?
MrMerriweather123 7 months ago
the only people who find this racist, are the racist themselves, by making the assertion that it's racist for black people to be portrayed as eating chicken.

@uberpissed there's no racism in the ad, only ignorance of the topic on the US's part a country shouldn't have even entered into the conversation
irishgodfatherchris 8 months ago
@irishgodfatherchris Regardless of the ignorance of the topic, and your apparent belief that Americans shouldn't be allowed to have a thought towards this ad or any other ad that doesn't air in our country, it still is on youtube. People still had thoughts, which lead to comments, which lead to a conversation. Conversation is good. Laughter is better. In Australia, this ad meant one thing. In America it meant something different. Differences should be appreciated. People just need to chill out.
uberpissed 7 months ago

OK, The white guy is an Australian Cricket Team supporter (that is why he has a green and gold shirt on), he is surrounded by supporters of the West Indies Cricket Team, that is why he is "stuck in an awkward situation". He is using the KFC as a peace offering. KFC were the sponsors of the One Day Cricket series that year. Australia was playing against the West Indies - hopefully that helps, please don't look for racism were none exists.
