@DeltaD36 It is an interesting idea. I've also thought that the entire thing could have been a delusion in Itoshki's mind. I've tried to reconcile the fact that Itoshki isn't in every scene with the fact that one of his relatives usually is, and they all look alike. I'm not sure though.

I like how the OVA openings suggest an underlying plotline under the random zaniness that is Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei; though I only watched a few episodes of this, I think it's safe to say that this series would be a WHOLE LOT BETTER if it did.

I'm not saying that I don't like this show.

However, her past is very Troubled, and many people who watch the series (Me included) have come to a theory that she's actually insane. Many things that she does and likes are very suggestive to someone who is not mentally stable... >_>

Oh there's no doubt about it, she's straight crazy lol. Remember the episode where Meru (cell phone girl) is presented? She looks into Kafuka's eyes and all she sees is "KILL KILL KILL".

Zetsubou and Kafuka are indeed opposites. Despair vs Optimism. However, I think they are trying to subtly paint the picture that blind optimism is the cancerous/frightening/strange thing. Many of the episodes have the loosely followed format of Zetsubou declaring what he despairs over...

everyone (the girls with their paper-thin trope personalities) weighs in on it, then Kafuka convinces everyone (at least partially) that her positive outlook is the way to go. You can even see that represented in this OP, at 0:38 all of the girl's heads turn into Kafuka's.

This opening (and song) is my favourite of the whole show.

This has recently proven itself to be false. During the first season we saw the name Akagi on the register and asumed it was An or Kafuka's second name because of the Anne of Green Gables reference in the first episode. But in Kaga Ai's introduction episode we find that there is a student with the name Akagi in the class (she appears as a faceless student with only the classic SZS red name circle on her face). It's a shame, I thought the whole Anne of Green Gables thing was pretty cool. :(
