The five minutes which lead up to this scene really adds to the mood. She saw a few of his victims in tiny cells decked out in torture gear and then she's stalked by one of them, faints and is brought to the throne room. The whole thing chills you to the bone.

it is such a powerful scene, his cape is like his influence, dominating and vast. And when she is brought to his attention, it closes in on her. It would be great to have such imagination to actually be able to visualize your mind as if you were actually there. What is more, is that the cross on his forehead may be referencing to the artist Frida Khalo, whom often painted surrealist landscapes that interpreted her thoughts and feelings. I think this film was influenced by such artists.

yeah the imagery and the plot were both far out. I remember after this movie other movies copied the horse scene where bodies are sliced like butter, like in resident evil.

Every scene is a unique work of art... it's got everything for us horror/sci fi fans, but it goes a lot further with its use of color, texture, makeup and costume design, and realizing some impossile images (like this one). It's cool in this scene how his cape is pierced into his back the same way he was pierced in real life (for suspension). This scene is one of my favorites... this scene really shows how the killer is the master of his domain. The cape slipping across the walls is awesome. 5!
