@TheFamilyguy421 These were done with the 7D's pop-up flash; though recently I got the Canon MR-14EX and you can see samples with that by just clicking on the annotation in the video or the video response.
@fullboxxskater Assuming you mean the 50mm compact macro; the 50mm can only produce magnification of 1:2 compared to the 100mm macro which does 1:1; so the 50mm only magnifies half as much as the 100mm can.
@fullboxxskater perhaps you meant the 60mm macro, which also offers 1:1; in either case 1:1 is 1:1, you can't get any closer with these lenses. What the 100mm allows you to do (versus the 50 or 60mm lens) is be farther away from your subject. This has several advantages in macro work: more background blur, you block your light less, and if you're shooting an insect, for example, you're less likely to fighten it away. Best advice is to go to a brick and mortar store and mess around with them.
Hello mate.is this the L macro or non L ? im in the market to buy a new lens and im struggling a little .I want them all lol but obviously cant have them all.i either want a 70-200 mm f4 is L usm or the 100 mm f2.8 macro L or non L(i see a digital rev video compairing the 2.wasnt much in it ) or a fisheye .Just curious which version you had ?and any advice anyone wants to give in choosing my new lens.answers on a postcard .
@dazla831 These are just from the non-L; having IS would always be nice, but since most of the subjects will move more than the camera shake I didn't really see the point (for what I shoot anyway).
@66biboy Thanks. I only use manual focus when doing macro, I usually just focus the lens to the closest distance (1:1) and then move the camera until in focus.
@wallmartkiller Thanks. All the picture are just done with the 100mm by its self. You could argue that their cropped since I've made it so they fit to the video size, but non of the picture were cropped except the ladybirds at 1:04 to fix the angle up.
You use a lot times your flash, to make it look sharper or what? Some pretty macro's, very cool. I got the L version, but it's winter now, so less of beautiful macro's to shoot at the moment.
@ImpulzeShady Thanks for the kudos. I do use the flash most of the time so i can use a fast shutter speed and small aperture (approx. 1/200-1/250sec at f13.)
Very nice photos! I cannot believe you used the stock flash!

@TheFamilyguy421 Thanks man. Yeah I would say that the 100mm is quite a desirable lens.

@vesicouterine Excellent!!! macro. Did you set AI servo on 7d for the moving subject? is it manual or auto focus? Thank you in advance.
