Thanks for this video! I have been wanting to do this in my 2006 gmc sierra and now i know how. Quick question: my left door speaker works sometimes and sometimes not. (Most times not). How can i fix this? Is this the wiring in the door or where it goes into the radio you think?
I've got an 02 blazer, which has the SAME stock radio that yours has. I was looking on crutchfield and they had an adapter that was double din instead of single din. It says "with modifications" (cutting plastic off) the double din will fit in the blazer? whats your opinion? I'd like to have double din so i can have radio on top, police scanner (single din compatible) on bottom. Thanks!
Looks great! A lot of aftermarket radios look like crap to me, but this one is one of the best I have seen yet, and I prefer the "modified" door chime compared to the actual "GM bong" chime.
@FriscoJarretts im hopeless....do you have a link for it? i have a 2004 silverado and ive pulled all of my hair out because i cant find the damn harness or door chime module? please and thank you
Looks easy, but I did the same as you even before I watched the video and everything turned out fine, now my next step is to go from the radio similar like yours to a touchscreen dash, do you know anything about those?
opr.eng@gmail.com /is there a theft control that has to be dealt with on 2001 silverado and is that chime box on this model and do i need anntenna adapter ?
I don't know how inlet/outlet connectors from the back works. Somehow they work together. You'd figure individual businesses function separate and don't know anything about one another. How could all these connectors be rampart in every business when technologies are different. Because their Wall Street!!
good video. I had a quick question. I tried this yesterday on my 06 silverado non bose/onstar or anything like that. i wired my radio harness color to color but it wouldnt power on, though when i put a cd it received it and when i would press the eject button it would return the cd. I know it gets power but why wont it turn on?? Any suggestions anyone?
@roythebest33 thanks but i ended up buying the door chime box that included the proper harness. i compared the two harnesses and the red wire are in different locations which didn't power on my stereo
Hey, I have a 2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara and the CD player is broken or something, because I have to force a CD into the slot and once it's in there, it just says "LOADING" and I have to keep pressing the EJECT button repeatedly for the disk to come out. If anybody knows what's wrong please respond!! But in a week I'm going to take it to Best Buy and get a new stereo.
@FriscoJarretts Do you recommend getting this fixed by a professional because I don't want know anything about this stuff, or do you recommend just getting a new stereo with a new CD player?
Thanks for posting this and I do have a question if you have the time. While driving my 06 Silverado, I hit a bump and suddenly the stereo's audio sounded weak and tinny in all speakers (similar to the sound of a speaker/headphones mini-jack not plugged in all the way); almost as if a connection was knocked loose. To your knowledge: a) if that possible? b) if so, is it likely to be the connector pack to the back of the radio c) if not, what other connection points would you suggest? Thanks!
what did you solder the gmrc-02 to and where did you end up putting it im looking to do the same kind of thing in my truck and this one step you didnt show and im just curious message back if you can
@FriscoJarretts So one end of the harness comes with the stereo and the vehicle specific one you buy separate? Is it just as simple as matching up the wires?
The harness does not come with the radio. You buy it. The colors on the wire harness kit somewhat match, but you still need to follow the codes in the manual.
@FriscoJarretts how can i hook up a stereo just connnected to a car battery and a sub woofer with and amp i wanna hook it up to a lowrider bike........can u help me out please itll be much appreciated thanks
I buy everything local to support my local economy. Sales tax helps fix the roads you drive on, and will keep a small business around. The only reason I buy over the internet is if they do not carry it locally. However, in Dallas, I can usually find what I need. There must be a local Car Audio shop in your town, and they can help you. That way if you have a problem, you can get it fixed fast.
One question , when you encountered the problems with your iphone4 , what adapter were you using? I was just about to buy the isimple gateway but not if I will cause me problems. Thank you and great video, I was wondering how to get the dash bezel off now I know.
dude you have know idea how much this helped me. i have a 2006 silverado and planning on doing the same thing, but i have 1 question where did you get the antenna adapter?
My new stereo comes in from Crutchfield today. I think I understand pretty much everything, except the steering wheel controls. My truck has that so I had to get the SWI Jack adapter. It's super confusing to understand how exactly it needs to be installed.
@FriscoJarretts Yeah it's just a pain. I finally got everything BUT my SWI jack installed. It took me a while to get the GMOS adapter installed. I finally got it installed, but even with the help of Crutchfield tech support, I can't get the chime feature to actually work. Any idea why everything but the chime would work (except no idea on on star since I don't use it)?
@FriscoJarretts The GMOS adapter started working all of a sudden after several times going on accessory and/or cranking it up. It is rather annoying because it was so freaking loud. I turned it down though but when it cuts off the chime it "crackles". I sure hope it doesn't damage my speakers.
Why do people splice into the factory wiring...WHY? They make kits that connect right to the aftermarket headunit pigtail..then you solder/butt connect the other end of the Adapter connector that PLUGS into the factory harness...there is no need to cut into that harness...I hate when people do this...SO many harnesses Ive had to fix Correctly because of dumb shit like this
ok thank you, what you said about the older model dash kit is true tho, they are horrible looking lucky for me i found a flat one but i doesnt have a pocket, when it comes to the wires i just match up the colors right?
