  • thanks for the vids very helpful!!!!

  • does your truck have bose and onstar?

mine does and the cheapest wiring harness I could find is like $180

  • @promethfkmeup Nope mine did not, and that is a pretty cheap price.

  • Thanks for this video! I have been wanting to do this in my 2006 gmc sierra and now i know how. Quick question: my left door speaker works sometimes and sometimes not. (Most times not). How can i fix this? Is this the wiring in the door or where it goes into the radio you think?

  • @bgrayatbs Take the door panel off and replace the speaker. Common problem.

  • Thanks for the help! Great demo

  • I've got an 02 blazer, which has the SAME stock radio that yours has. I was looking on crutchfield and they had an adapter that was double din instead of single din. It says "with modifications" (cutting plastic off) the double din will fit in the blazer? whats your opinion? I'd like to have double din so i can have radio on top, police scanner (single din compatible) on bottom. Thanks!

  • @hooplaproduction Not sure about that one bro. Anything is possible with enough cutting :)

  • Looks great! A lot of aftermarket radios look like crap to me, but this one is one of the best I have seen yet, and I prefer the "modified" door chime compared to the actual "GM bong" chime.

  • what all do i need to buy in order to do this. I too have a 2006 silverado

  • @krisjenkins77 A GM kit and a chime module

  • I just said " fuck the chime box" lol.

  • where do you get the door chime module? and can you get the module and the wire harness together or is it something seperate?

  • @FloridaAquaholic

Any local car audio store should have it. I think metra was the one I used.

  • @FriscoJarretts im hopeless....do you have a link for it? i have a 2004 silverado and ive pulled all of my hair out because i cant find the damn harness or door chime module? please and thank you

  • Looks easy, but I did the same as you even before I watched the video and everything turned out fine, now my next step is to go from the radio similar like yours to a touchscreen dash, do you know anything about those?

  • HELP I also need help on 2001 silverado , on chime box and anti theft mode >

  • opr.eng@gmail.com /is there a theft control that has to be dealt with on 2001 silverado and is that chime box on this model and do i need anntenna adapter ?

  • Do your steering wheel funtions still work?

  • @forestmoore319

Never had them on this truck

  • do u know where u can get that box thing for the radio and the adapter for the antena and do u know if its that setup for a 1997 chevy k2500

  • @hi22205

    Any local stereo shop

  • hey did you have the bose system or just a regular gm stereo?

  • i am goin to install a aftermarket radio ina 2000 cavalier same radio as you had in the truck how do you hook up the innterface

  • @doublehockeystick That is the door chime module. It is what makes the ding dong sound when you open the door.

  • good video. I had a quick question. I tried this yesterday on my 06 silverado non bose/onstar or anything like that. i wired my radio harness color to color but it wouldnt power on, though when i put a cd it received it and when i would press the eject button it would return the cd. I know it gets power but why wont it turn on?? Any suggestions anyone?

  • @Peluchev8fr run a wire connected to the "accesory (red)" wire to a fuse in the fuse box. if it doesnt work the first time keep lookin for a fuse

  • @roythebest33 thanks but i ended up buying the door chime box that included the proper harness. i compared the two harnesses and the red wire are in different locations which didn't power on my stereo

  • did you have the Bose sound system in your truck?

  • @chr2133624

    No

  • is it the same with a Bose system?

  • @BEARNUTS4U2C

No. My new truck has to bose system, and it will need something totally different.

  • Hey, I have a 2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara and the CD player is broken or something, because I have to force a CD into the slot and once it's in there, it just says "LOADING" and I have to keep pressing the EJECT button repeatedly for the disk to come out. If anybody knows what's wrong please respond!! But in a week I'm going to take it to Best Buy and get a new stereo.

  • @ArchieFan42192

That has a broken transport. You will have to take the radio apart to get it out.

  • @FriscoJarretts Do you recommend getting this fixed by a professional because I don't want know anything about this stuff, or do you recommend just getting a new stereo with a new CD player?

  • @ArchieFan42192

It might be worth your while just to replace it.

  • @FriscoJarretts Okay, thanks for your help!!

  • @FriscoJarretts Also, what is a transport?

  • thx for putting this video up cause it very help me to put one in my 2004 silverado

  • Thanks for posting this and I do have a question if you have the time. While driving my 06 Silverado, I hit a bump and suddenly the stereo's audio sounded weak and tinny in all speakers (similar to the sound of a speaker/headphones mini-jack not plugged in all the way); almost as if a connection was knocked loose. To your knowledge: a) if that possible? b) if so, is it likely to be the connector pack to the back of the radio c) if not, what other connection points would you suggest? Thanks!

  • @daddyfish77

Not sure on that one. I am thinking loose connection.

  • @FriscoJarretts Thanks for the response. I'll end up taking a look later today or tomorrow. Thanks again!

  • was this filmed in wa?

  • is it possible to put a double din in a silverado

  • "its fricken loud as a dickens"???? 2:29 :)))

  • what did you solder the gmrc-02 to and where did you end up putting it im looking to do the same kind of thing in my truck and this one step you didnt show and im just curious message back if you can

  • Whats the advantage of an aftermarket stereo? Of course it has cd, usb, and aux in but does it improve sound quality?

  • @slowride55

Yes it does. More power too.

  • @FriscoJarretts So one end of the harness comes with the stereo and the vehicle specific one you buy separate? Is it just as simple as matching up the wires?

  • @slowride55

The harness does not come with the radio. You buy it. The colors on the wire harness kit somewhat match, but you still need to follow the codes in the manual.

  • @FriscoJarretts how can i hook up a stereo just connnected to a car battery and a sub woofer with and amp i wanna hook it up to a lowrider bike........can u help me out please itll be much appreciated thanks

  • @FriscoJarretts

Yeah, Texas sure does keep their roads paved!

  • Where can I buy a door chime? I'm a big amazon user

  • @PappyMurphy

I buy everything local to support my local economy. Sales tax helps fix the roads you drive on, and will keep a small business around. The only reason I buy over the internet is if they do not carry it locally. However, in Dallas, I can usually find what I need. There must be a local Car Audio shop in your town, and they can help you. That way if you have a problem, you can get it fixed fast.

  • One question , when you encountered the problems with your iphone4 , what adapter were you using? I was just about to buy the isimple gateway but not if I will cause me problems. Thank you and great video, I was wondering how to get the dash bezel off now I know.

  • How about the steering wheel control? If u can put up a vid for it that will be awesome

  • dude you have know idea how much this helped me. i have a 2006 silverado and planning on doing the same thing, but i have 1 question where did you get the antenna adapter?

  • @123chumley

I got it the same place I bought the radio. I think it was made by metra.

  • its gooood tks

  • Nice video man

  • That you so much for posting this! Helped out a ton on my Silverado

  • wat r u using to retain ur door chime

  • @80591593030

There is an adapter that you purchase. Plugs right in.

  • how bout a 2001 aztek

  • @80591593030

Not sure about that car. Never installed a deck in one.

  • Ur cool!!!

  • My new stereo comes in from Crutchfield today. I think I understand pretty much everything, except the steering wheel controls. My truck has that so I had to get the SWI Jack adapter. It's super confusing to understand how exactly it needs to be installed.

  • @smttysmth02gt

I have not encountered the steering controls. I know it can be done.

  • @FriscoJarretts Yeah it's just a pain. I finally got everything BUT my SWI jack installed. It took me a while to get the GMOS adapter installed. I finally got it installed, but even with the help of Crutchfield tech support, I can't get the chime feature to actually work. Any idea why everything but the chime would work (except no idea on on star since I don't use it)?

  • @FriscoJarretts The GMOS adapter started working all of a sudden after several times going on accessory and/or cranking it up. It is rather annoying because it was so freaking loud. I turned it down though but when it cuts off the chime it "crackles". I sure hope it doesn't damage my speakers.

  • Why do people splice into the factory wiring...WHY? They make kits that connect right to the aftermarket headunit pigtail..then you solder/butt connect the other end of the Adapter connector that PLUGS into the factory harness...there is no need to cut into that harness...I hate when people do this...SO many harnesses Ive had to fix Correctly because of dumb shit like this

  • ok thank you, what you said about the older model dash kit is true tho, they are horrible looking lucky for me i found a flat one but i doesnt have a pocket, when it comes to the wires i just match up the colors right?

  • @manchesteruni06

it depends on your kit, but yes the colors should match.

  • @FriscoJarretts ok thanks ill let you know how it goes, and i got the pioneer deh-6300ub i hope it sounds good

  • ok thank you, what you said about the older model dash kit is true tho, they are horrible looking lucky for me i found a flat one but i doesnt have a pocket

  • really detailed video, can i use this same process on a 2001 gmc sierra?

  • @manchesteruni06

I think so. I had and 01 silverado also, and I think it was the same.

  • @manchesteruni06 i sintalled with no sweat thanks

  • Cool video man! I have a chevrolet silverado I was putting a after market stereo in my truck I got the wire harness all plug up and my stereo has power but will not turn on if you can help me with that get at me

  • Possible to put a stereo into a 98 Buick lesabre?

  • great video, i have a 2010 F-150 and have an amp with subs from my old car i would like to install but want to keep the factory radio since these new fords integrate everything into the dash. I've heard I can use a line-out converter to install the amp. Do you know how well these work?

  • @Aggie1286

I have not used one of those.

  • @Aggie1286 yes i have used that in my car, you take the powered speaker outputs from your factory radio and connect them to the high level input on the high to low level converter, then the converter has rca outputs that you connect to your amplifiers. if you need anything else let me know

  • Nice video. I have the same truck and the same Pioneer CD player but I got the standard wire harness that does not have the chime. I wired the harness that came with the new CD player to the new harness I bought (wired color to color) and plugged it into the factory wire harness but I could not get the CD player to power up. Any idea what i did wrong. Can you tell me what each wire color on the factory system wiring controls.

  • Great Video, very informative. I have a 2005 Colorado and want to replace the original radio to something compatible with my iPhone. This video will really help! How do you like the Pioneer unit? Could you post a video showing us how to use the iPhone/iPod in your truck? Thanks!

  • @ProgressiveParty The radio is ok. It is a little hard to operate, and I should have checked that first. Let me see what I can do about the other video.

  • Great movie, this is going to help me out alot. If i change out the stock speakers as well, will that axxess module still give me the warning chimes? thanks for your help

  • great movie, this is going to totally help me out with my first time installation. I was reading the serial numbers off of the back of you axxess module, and online it says that its only good for silverado's 2005 or older. Yours worked, but I just want to make sure im buying the right one. If i change out the speakers as well, will that module still give me the warning chimes? Thanks

  • To my knowledge, no it will not. I think there are some radios that will allow you to do that, but I am not for sure.

  • What if your the truck has volume and other radio controls on the steering wheel? Will they still work with the new radio?
