Baautiful song, I watched Towering Inferno in the late 80's, I was 8 or 9 Years old, what a great movie, one of my faves until this day & besides I become a rock fan, the song have a special place for mi, because for there's no generes or time for the good music.
"We may never love like this again," "The morning after," "We've only just begun," Sing" Aren't these songs all about coming to accept the bourgeois suburban life that we all seem to lead? Doesn't that just make you sad?
I've always loved this song since I was a little kid. Captured the ambience so well of the movie.....in fact it made the feeling or memories of the movie so much better.
Just watched the movie after not having seen it since it came out and never realized Maureen Mcgovern had sung the this song. Nice song and the arrangement is an exact copy of "The Morning After" from "The Poseidon Adventure". Harpsichord in the choruses and the layered vocals at the end. Always loved this singer. Amazing voice.
Loved this movie. Remember seeing it in a jam-packed downtown theater in Manila, I believe it was Ideal Theater during my high school days. The Theater is now long gone so were the rest of 10 or so other big theaters located along this stretch of commercial area. Being a fan of Robert Wagner, I also felt bad because he did not survive the inferno. Terrific film that made my heart ran down the clock from start to finish. Thanks Hollywood!
I like Maureen, but "Morning After" this is not! They were going for a repeat. Same singer, same song writing team, another Irwin Allen 70s disaster movie. Not terrible, but not memorable. Plus, she does some kind of over-elocution thing. Just watched the film. She looked weird with the long blonde hair instead of the more familiar short red hair.
@axecalibore I disagree, this movie was Irwin Allens masterpiece and the greatest disaster movie ever made...it was nomanated for 8 oscars including Best Picture of the year and it won 3 and won for best song,it was a great movie!
@Irishfanism: I totally agree with you! She won my heart over with "The Morning After" and I have met her several times and that voice is as beautiful as her spirit. They just don't make love songs like they used to.
(Both were written and backed by Al Kasha and Joel Hirschhorn.) Disaster Queen? Just QUEEN in my book. Ric Fuchs
@Colour4sphere She also sang " There's got to be a morning after" featured in The Posseidon adventure. There's something special about that song I feel its the type of song that people might sing when they have a need to be spiritually uplifted. Maureen McGovern has a unique voice that makes any song a powerful message You'll hear it here watch?v=EH2hWwD5Qfg&feature=fvst
@jzamaus I agree. They don't make movies with actors like these anymore. I'm 49 and saw the movie as a 14 year old. RIP Paul Newman, Steve McQueen, Bill Holden, Fred Astaire and whoever else I forgot to mention.
nice song.. i was able to watched the film when i was in college at the national university.. movie house is trembling ads if we are part of the chaos... ronald
i was 3 yrs old when this movie came out, i never had a chance to watch the whole movies but all my favorite actors were on it, Fred Astaire, Paul Newman and Steve McQueen. hope to watch it someday.
La mejor canción en la mejor película que he visto, con toda una constelación de estrellas. Le tengo un especial cariño a esta película, favorita de mi padre y hermano ya fallecidos. Con todo mi amor les dedico esta canción dondequiera que estén.
way back when,...deejays would have called this "the "love" (?) Theme from The Towering Inferno when they'd announce it on the radio. Right from the instrumentals at the very beginning of the song and MG's over the top delivery you get a sense of drama and foreboding; something like an eat, drink, and be merry for tomorrow we die kind of feeling... You just don't hear memorable movie music like this anymore.Too bad, so sad!
Great song from a great movie! Check out a video I made: PRANKSTERS IN THE PARK...the one with 2 kids in the picture...it's about a prank 2 kids play on an unsuspecting lady...
I find it quite funny that the Oscar winning song from this classic disaster flick, The Towering Inferno, was called WE MAY NEVER LOVE LIKE THIS AGAIN.
I was very lucky years ago to see The Sick & Twisted Performers of San Francisco do a live version of The Towering Inferno and it was hilarious!
The first time I heard this song was while I was watching the movie "Towering Inferno" in the cinema-a big place with very good sound-effect. I stell remember how touching I was when I heard it.
I love this song, but I can't help picturing Andrea Martin singing in the SCTV take-off in the "Top of the Reactor" restaurant while the Towering Inferno blazes! HA!
