I had never seen that. That was the coolest thing I've ever seen! No one loves the band more than I do. Mick Tucker was just as good as Ian Paice and should have much more acclaim! As far as Andy, I was there when Blackmore did his duel with him, and he might have even been better!
Sorry, ran out of space. Just wanted to mention the 'crap' comment as being somewhat harsh. Music doesn't always need to be a comparison contest. Remember, what floats your boat may sink somebody elses.
All I know is I really miss that time, when Sweet, Slade, Mud, T-Rex and Bowie ruled in the glam years. The processed/sequenced/techno/rap years which followed did nothing for me, but others appear to enjoy this, so I'll leave it with them to appreciate. Ok. Time to listen to Sweet again.
'Co-Co' and 'Wig Wam Bam' were fun pop songs, but Sweet picked up a gear when they released 'Blockbuster'. Going through the later singles, especially 'Ballroom Blitz' and 'Hellraiser', you really begin to hear their quality. The Chinny/Chap writing team struck gold with Sweet but, if you really want to hear their own material, just flip the 45's over for 'Need a lotta lovin' and 'Burning'. Just brilliant. 'Turn it down' is a top rock song, proving Sweet were far more than a pop band.

Sweet is an underestimated band band but they were no no influence to punk rock, maybe to american glamrock bands. The sweet meant lot to me but they are crap compared to the clash and stiff little fingers
Those bands are not comparable. There's not even reason to do so. Influence is one thing and all bands have their own way of expressions and acts. Not to mention different time and influence of politics and all kind of life styles.
So when you say "crap" you are just rude and it has nothing to do with music but with your own musical taste. And certainly nothing with your memories of the band which "once meant a lot " to you!

According to The Sweet Bass Player Steve Priest The Sweet were formed in the summer of 1967. Chinn/Chapman wrote The Sweet singles from 1971 to 1974. Most of these singles in this period were pop and Glam but The Sweet wrote the hard rock B-Sides to these singles.
I believe Brian was shouting to the guy on the mixer who didn't mix the sound well. In fact, Punk rock genre developed between 1974 and 1976 in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia. And Sweet influenced many, including New York Dolls esp. And certainly others writing provocative lyrics what was so common in punk.

In fact, the Sweet were an insignificant pop group in 1971 when the Dolls formed. The MC5, Stones, Stooges were the Dolls biggest influences, with Marc Bolan (who did mean something in '71) likely being the biggest glam influence. Punk started in the US. When the Ramones went to the UK, it picked up real steam there. Sweet's OTT costumes, harmonies and guitar/drum solo and silly, often sex-obsessed lyrics were more the kind of thing punk was railing against.
Well, read some other info too; "I've been reading about our influence," Johansen says, alluding to the spell the Dolls cast on the young Morrissey, The Sex Pistols and others, "but a huge influence on us was Janis Joplin" - and they launch into a raucous and soulful "Take Another Little Piece of My Heart", Sylvain, Conte and Delaney crowding around one mic to sing backing vocals.,, nydollsDOTorg
Yes, I did! :D J.J. (according to Johansen) was that main influence and not all those you pointed. The other part is glam which came from UK. Few years ago was in Q magazine an interview with members of Dolls and they did admit that Sweet played a big rolle in their image. Take it or leave it! Or, believe what you want I use the facts. ;) Dolls first LP came out in 73. while Sweet's was in 1971. Sweet made succes in USA, Japan, ... Dolls never did in Europe. Facts, that's all dude ;)

You're not even reading well. He said a HUGE influence, not a main influence.
The Dolls formed in 1971. What was Sweet doing in 1971? Just getting signed and doing stupid pop records that they didn't play on (for the most part).
Sweet jumped on the bandwagon of Glam and got there just as the party was ending around 1974. And with their silly costumes, lyrics and drum solos, were, once again, what punk rose to kill. How do you like those facts?
@Jadranko23 sorry but as far as musicianship, and writing and overall talent, very few bands of that era can even wipe Sweet's a** ESPECIALLY the NY Dolls...
As about punk (and Ramones - God bless them - great band) when they did "invent" punk in 74!? Sweet were already touring around (71-74) with their provocative and loud(er than Purple or Who) shows, shocking audiences! Insulting British queen with this song (in topic!) and that's why it was banned from BBC! All this before punk, Sex Pist. and others! So much about punk and it's meaning. ;)
"Sweet were an insignificant pop group in 1971 when the Dolls formed." - true - in USA, same as Dolls were insignificant in Europe and not only in 71 but most of the time :)
@Jadranko23 and only NY morons talking about the good ol days in the Village even give a sh*t about the dolls anymore.....Sweets pales those guys in every aspect
I didn't say that Sweet had a "huge" influence on punk! But that they had influence on many in the early stage of punk too. Punk was all about provocative lyrics and live acts. That's what Sweet were doing on their shows, rearranging the songs and being loud! That's the point.
does anybody own this full edition of The Geordie Scene? Newcastle band Sandgate also appeared on it with Sweet, and I would love to be able to get a copy of their performance.
Yes I have... It's sad to see your idols getting older and not as pretty as before but I guess that's the way it is... It's a pitty though. It's a good thing you can watch them at their primetime here at Youtube!
Not just his appearance...he's a grouch. He's got a bad attitude. I read his book. I have his book. He ran out. I tried to get another one because someone asked me if I could...and he just gave me some snotty comment about how he ran out and he's not printing any more. I wanted to go over and give him a wedgie....lol.
That was the time when Brian was recovering from bad injury in his throat, when attacked by bastards on the street who were smashing his car. His drinking problems become obvious years later when kicked out from the recording sessions for the '78. album where Andy was arranging all songs into key note Brian couldn't reach, simply because Andy wanted to move to the sound of the New wave. The sound of "Cut above .." speaks for itself.
