  • he handled it well mecanical break down x luv him forever x x

  • Very best bit at 0:34 most awsome and elegant drumfill ever.

  • Hey, is it me or does it seem like Mick Tucker is the most under-rated rock drummer of all-time?

  • Everyone took a piece of Sweet ...especially QUEEN who is my favorite band on earth,..but truth be told.from the harmonizing vocals, the guitar solos,....no Sweet, no Queen...

  • from the pissed off looks of Mick and Brian, it looks as though this was recorded early in the morning....

  • This is cliché pap, they were loosin'it fast after their brilliant Sweet F.A. phase.

  • steve was so cute! and sexy ^ ^

  • At 0.33 watch the fine drumwork .

  • Sweet were the fucking BALLS man. Such a shame the way Brian went - he was a class front man.

  • Serious groupie communication going on bottom left hand of screen 0:50-

  • You can hear the heavy side of SWEET.

    Great Riffs.

  • This song get me like hard rock!

  • I bought this single

  • I always get tongue-tied on Steve's bits singing along with this. Steve does not. He is my hero.

  • @unlikeanyotherhuman

possible, I wrote 8 months ago; I believe Brian was shouting to the guy on the mixer who didn't mix the sound well. Brian was giving the signs in the begining with hands and also shouting "come on come on" at 0:20 Listening to the original studio song and this one there is noticable difference. Because of bad mixing from studio matrix and this live performance it's happened that error while singing on Breakdown, the song played before.

  • I think Brian called him an a***hole!

  • How live is this? At :55 the bass player fixes his glasses but the bassline keeps playing....

  • British TV Union rules, record live earlier in the day , lip synch the performance to what you recorded

  • They weren't allowed to play full live. ;)

They only played live in their own concerts.

  • Damn underrated song! Love the lyrics. Reminds me of my old man yelling at me to "turn it down" when I played Sweet, Kiss and Aerosmith in the late 70's. LOL! RIP Mick and Brian!

  • awsome band

  • Moin to ThePaistecat: Do you know that Sweet and DP have been close friends? Btw both bands at that time have been time fucking brilliant.... Greetings from Hamburg

  • I had never seen that. That was the coolest thing I've ever seen! No one loves the band more than I do. Mick Tucker was just as good as Ian Paice and should have much more acclaim! As far as Andy, I was there when Blackmore did his duel with him, and he might have even been better!

  • Sorry, ran out of space. Just wanted to mention the 'crap' comment as being somewhat harsh. Music doesn't always need to be a comparison contest. Remember, what floats your boat may sink somebody elses.

All I know is I really miss that time, when Sweet, Slade, Mud, T-Rex and Bowie ruled in the glam years. The processed/sequenced/techno/rap years which followed did nothing for me, but others appear to enjoy this, so I'll leave it with them to appreciate. Ok. Time to listen to Sweet again.

  • That's right! ;)

    Thanks for cool comments. Cheers

  • 'Co-Co' and 'Wig Wam Bam' were fun pop songs, but Sweet picked up a gear when they released 'Blockbuster'. Going through the later singles, especially 'Ballroom Blitz' and 'Hellraiser', you really begin to hear their quality. The Chinny/Chap writing team struck gold with Sweet but, if you really want to hear their own material, just flip the 45's over for 'Need a lotta lovin' and 'Burning'. Just brilliant. 'Turn it down' is a top rock song, proving Sweet were far more than a pop band.

  • They were NOT crap compared to anyone, they were GREAT!!!!!!

  • Those bands are not comparable. There's not even reason to do so. Influence is one thing and all bands have their own way of expressions and acts. Not to mention different time and influence of politics and all kind of life styles.

So when you say "crap" you are just rude and it has nothing to do with music but with your own musical taste. And certainly nothing with your memories of the band which "once meant a lot " to you!

  • best glam rock band ever!!!

    The sweet kick ass!!!

  • Andy fucks up the illusion of a live-performance; smart thinking Andy-not.

  • I couldnt agree more, hes always has to have his face in the camera and thinks his moves are so kewl, you look like a damn clutz with that guitar Andy, and Andy you are a putz!Lol the putz is a clutz. You will never be Sweet, only one person deserves the Sweet title and thats Steve. You were the part of the problem of Sweets break up,and you have the audacity to call your band AS Sweet? It should be ASS.

  • At their peak, nobody rocked harder and offended more people than The MIGHTY Sweet!! In fact, they keep pissing off delusional NY Dolls fans today thinking they were the shit. The Sweet is one of the most influential bands ever, and you can take that to the bank and cash it AmericanCrooner.

  • listen here you punk LOL AWESOME

  • Steve was the founder of rap !

  • HHHAAAHHHAAAHHHAAA LMAO

  • According to The Sweet Bass Player Steve Priest The Sweet were formed in the summer of 1967. Chinn/Chapman wrote The Sweet singles from 1971 to 1974. Most of these singles in this period were pop and Glam but The Sweet wrote the hard rock B-Sides to these singles.

    Alfred

  • @Blackmamafan over all I prefer the Sweet songs better than C/Cs

  • 0:48

What's heppening there? o.o Anyway, thank you for sharing!

  • I believe Brian was shouting to the guy on the mixer who didn't mix the sound well. Brian was giving the signs in the begining with hands and also shouting "come on come on" at 0:20 Listening to the original studio song and this one there is noticable difference. • omg andy iz so funny at 2:18 and onwardz xxxx

  • I love this song, aparently it was not a hit as it contained the words ''for gods sake'' so that the facist record company decided not to release it as a single. Thanks for posting btw.

  • No! It definitely WAS a single. I still have the 7" inch version released on RCA Victor. I think what you're referring to was that the BBC banned it from their playlist because of as you say the line "For God's Sake."

  • Turn it up !

  • yeah but andy said years later that brian leaving the band was a big mistake i think he forgot that the chicks went their to see brian not andy . Come on andy those weight pills really fucked up your judgement...

  • In fact, Punk rock genre developed between 1974 and 1976 in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia. And Sweet influenced many, including New York Dolls esp. And certainly others writing provocative lyrics what was so common in punk.

If we don't f**** you then someone else will. So sure ;)

  • They changed that lyric in their live set. :)

In the original version of "Someone else will" they sing "if you don`t go down on me someone else will".

  • Meaning - invention of punk! ;)

  • Well, read some other info too; "I've been reading about our influence," Johansen says, alluding to the spell the Dolls cast on the young Morrissey, The Sex Pistols and others, "but a huge influence on us was Janis Joplin" - and they launch into a raucous and soulful "Take Another Little Piece of My Heart", Sylvain, Conte and Delaney crowding around one mic to sing backing vocals.,, nydollsDOTorg

History of rock is not that simple, after all ;)

  • Umm. My point was that Sweet wasn't an influence on the Dolls, nor punk, and you respond by bringing up Janis Joplin.

It's simpler when you stick to the topic. ;)

  • Yes, I did! :D J.J. (according to Johansen) was that main influence and not all those you pointed. The other part is glam which came from UK. Few years ago was in Q magazine an interview with members of Dolls and they did admit that Sweet played a big rolle in their image. Take it or leave it! Or, believe what you want I use the facts. ;) Dolls first LP came out in 73. while Sweet's was in 1971. Sweet made succes in USA, Japan, ... Dolls never did in Europe. Facts, that's all dude ;)

  • I hope you will read more and listen more and understand better the rock history!

In the meantime I must to "turn you down"! because you're rude, dude - spoiling my channel ;)

  • @Jadranko23 sorry but as far as musicianship, and writing and overall talent, very few bands of that era can even wipe Sweet's a** ESPECIALLY the NY Dolls...

  • As about punk (and Ramones - God bless them - great band) when they did "invent" punk in 74!? Sweet were already touring around (71-74) with their provocative and loud(er than Purple or Who) shows, shocking audiences! Insulting British queen with this song (in topic!) and that's why it was banned from BBC! All this before punk, Sex Pist. and others! So much about punk and it's meaning. ;)

  • "Sweet were an insignificant pop group in 1971 when the Dolls formed." - true - in USA, same as Dolls were insignificant in Europe and not only in 71 but most of the time :)

  • @Jadranko23 and only NY morons talking about the good ol days in the Village even give a sh*t about the dolls anymore.....Sweets pales those guys in every aspect

  • Yeah? Sweet were a huge influence on early punk rock. Well, according to such people as Steve Jones and Joan Jett.

  • I didn't say that Sweet had a "huge" influence on punk! But that they had influence on many in the early stage of punk too. Punk was all about provocative lyrics and live acts. That's what Sweet were doing on their shows, rearranging the songs and being loud! That's the point.

  • does anybody own this full edition of The Geordie Scene? Newcastle band Sandgate also appeared on it with Sweet, and I would love to be able to get a copy of their performance.

  • The gravelly quality of his voice in this is really sexy.

  • haha I love andy but what the hell is he doing with his guitar at 2:30?

reminds me of what spinal tap pokes fun at

  • KaleidoscopeEyes9 - you know, I can't watch him look like a fool. I don't like him. He is a show off!!! Now, Steve is the man!!!!

Are you ready Steve? Uh Huhhhhh

    xoxoxoxooxox

  • And Steve also looks extremely sexy in his sunglasses...

  • Steve was very sexy back in the day.

  • Yeah, both Brian and Steve were totally hot!!!

  • Steve will be 61 in February. Have you seen him lately?

  • Yes I have... It's sad to see your idols getting older and not as pretty as before but I guess that's the way it is... It's a pitty though. It's a good thing you can watch them at their primetime here at Youtube!

  • Not just his appearance...he's a grouch. He's got a bad attitude. I read his book. I have his book. He ran out. I tried to get another one because someone asked me if I could...and he just gave me some snotty comment about how he ran out and he's not printing any more. I wanted to go over and give him a wedgie....lol.

  • That's to bad! Not very nice at all!

  • Of course! Old gold shines always.

We are all aging nobody gets younger.

"Who wants to live forever?" anyway ;)

  • My friend lives in England. She goes to see Andy Scott live with his "Sweet" every year. He looks great and he's a really nice guy.

  • For some reason I found it extremely sexy when Brian shouts "Hit me!".

  • At 0.48 what is Brian shouting? does he shout at the punters?.

  • KOOKLETUR - What are "the punters"? I would love to know what Brian's yelling. He looks a bit hyped up, ya think?

  • Punters are the audience ,but i cant figure out what he is shouting or who he is shouting at , but shouting he surely is lol.

  • indeed.

  • I read somewhere that they were playing this song in "E" and he couldn't sing it...and I think he was shouting about how they changed the key.

  • That was the time when Brian was recovering from bad injury in his throat, when attacked by bastards on the street who were smashing his car. His drinking problems become obvious years later when kicked out from the recording sessions for the '78. album where Andy was arranging all songs into key note Brian couldn't reach, simply because Andy wanted to move to the sound of the New wave. The sound of "Cut above .." speaks for itself.

  • what does semi live mean???

  • Hi summer, it's term someone mentioned before. On such TV shows bands were actually playing but also had a support from the sound desk. Something like a live performance mixed with original tape. Weird though, but nowadays you have big bands performing live and they have support of many musicians aside, also choirs which support the lead vocalist (when he lost the voice, for ex. Rolling Stones LoL), etc.

  • INfuckinDEED The "performers" B.Spears & Hundred others have a neat contraption on their mics that's called :

an off/on switch,so they can now & then

    give that "live Feel" like

    yeahh,wow,allright,& Thank you.

  • A lot of shows played the instrument tracks off a tape with the vocals being live. I assume that is what this is.

  • i luv the last line steve says( the guitar player)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jadranko23, you have gold in your hands. This is simply bad ass !!! Motley Crue took some pointers here for sure in their early days. LOVE IT !!!! 34 years old and still sounds current !!!

  • Thank you so much, I'd never seen this before!

  • There's quite an "80's" heavy metal sound there. These guys were ahead of their time.

  • Actually, it didn't chart well in the uk due to the BBC banning it because of the lyrics, "For God's Sake."

  • What makes you so angry? 34 years later :?: For God's sake!

  • Ahhhh Just love them, they blow me away

so many times back then. I heard this intro riff over and over. Thanks for posting

    this rare stuf.

  • The video itself is great, but the song is a notch below their usual standards. It is easy to hear why it didn't chart well.

  • Nevertheless, It's one of my all time favorite! And their first heavy single "hit". Screw the charts :)

  • Brian wirkt in allen Videos aus der Geordie Scene Show sehr 'überdreht'. Aber mit seinen langen blonden Haaren sieht er hier einfach Klasse aus. RIP Brian

  • The crowd in this video seem happy to rock. The crowd in the "Turn It Down" Germany, I think maybe were given a shot of morphine B4 SWEET came on.I think they where waiting for

soft CoCo and was suprised like stunned mullets to get a rock ballad anthem...he he..

  • Truth! LoL

  • Another great Sweet video! I didn't even know this Sweet song before seeing this vid. Thank you, Jadranko23, for posting these wondeful nuggets of gold!

  • Another totally superb Sweet video!Thanks a million Jadranko23!

  • :)) Thank you, sweety ;)

  • Lol love the Andy Scott part :P

  • awesome

  • Brian didn't get the "We're all wearing black leather" memo.

    Great video.

  • Love the Steve Priest bit.

    Love the SWEET.

  • The Steve bit is ALWAYS the best part!!

    I love you, Steve!!!!!

    YOU ROCK.

  • Thanks alot for putting this in. It's one of my favorite sweet videos. Keep Sweet alive!!!

  • Hello Glam Glam-rock-fan. Many thanks for this clip. I have already seen many videos from the Sweet, but this was new to me. A lot of greeting from Germany
