If you look carefully at the lines..you will notice that this is not an all new airplane, this is a heavily modified Su-27! The landing gear, the engines, are all identical to the Su-27...they just changed it to look stealthy

@nrmejia denpends on you deffinition of "big" but theres the gulf war, the invasion of iraq, and a few others. besides, the point of the f-22 is nothing can beat it. if it faces off against planes from a country its likely to face, it will analate them.

The ENTIRE F-22 fleet was grounded last May 6th due to failures relating to the pilot's life support system. Also, we don't have 187 Raptors anymore as nearly 20 have already deteriorated due to corrosion to where the airframes are not safe to be flown. No money has been allocated to repair or upgrade them. The jet is a monumental failure!

If you look carefully at the lines..you will notice that this is not an all new airplane, this is a heavily modified Su-27! The landing gear, the engines, are all identical to the Su-27...they just changed it to look stealthy

And you said "No money has been allocated to repair or upgrade them." The fact is almost 100 million dollars is spend per aircraft for the upgrades.

We can not afford to "throw good money after bad" for an air craft that is riddled with so many technical difficulties. In fact, I just read on Yahoo News about the new "debt deal" passed by our government that cuts so deep into our overall budget that even the F-35 may be nixed as well. It's running behind, and over costing to the tune of $323 B!

@Azill17 F-22 isnt cancled, there done with production. that means we built all we need. the shuttle is down becuase were going back to the moon and mars, so NASA needs to put money elsewhere. though why the dont just use the shuttle to BUILD a space ship that could go to other planets instead of shooting off one huge rocket is beyond me.

@Azill17 because a space station in lunar orbit is all but usless right now. if we built a base, then a space-elevator-station on the moon MIGHT, just might be helpful. also, we dont depend on the iss, its just cheaper to work together then have our own. its more cost effective. plus it lets countries like canada that wouldnt be able to have a station other wise joinin. also, the Mir 2 was only kept going as long as it did because our shuttle kept it supplied and in orbit,so your welcome

This project goes way back. Surely these two planes are similar, but its competition.
Plus the nose of the plane is different to the f22.
It is not a full copy, just similar.
If you look at the dimensions and weight of the planes you will realize they are not the same.
