  • With All Souls Night and Tango to Evora this song is my favourite of her =)

The Visit is the only original CD that i bought in my life, and its worthy!

  • Sensational GOOD Simmering of cultural instruments. Make me so happy :)!!!

    -Raj

  • finally fucking god! my photo teacher was playing this in class and she didnt tell me how to spell mummer's so i was on fucking google trying to search for this song!

  • The song playing on the trailer of Ever After was "Tell me a fable" by Robert Miles. Great song! The song "The Mummers dance" came out to the trailer and beginning of a show called "Legend" back in 1998-1999. The release date of this song was back in 1997.

  • I seem to think I heard this song way back in the 70's maybe ????

Any idea the age of the song??

    Mike

  • @mrfifer it was 1997. i remember because i was in high school when this came out. still an awesome song!

  • @mrfifer This album came out in about 1997... I think..:)

  • Beautiful song! I remember hearing this on the radio a lot back in 97 when I was in middle school. Sounded like NOTHING else on the radio back then, which is what drew me to it! :)

  • I love the guy playing the hurdy gurdy. He's completely rocking out!

  • My friend and I used to search for hours on the slow, filtered internet in Iran to find Loreena's songs... we were both English Literature students and were so mesmerised by her choice of lyrics and style. Now that I'm in the US and can listen to her 24/7, I feel very lucky!

  • Seriously, Loreena is now my ''woman idol'' I remember listening to her song because of my olds listenings to her albums on every weekend. I'm now 20 and I'll always thank my parents for teachings me what real ''music'' is.. This song is just perfect.. Just to tell people to make their childrens listens to what real music is insteand of this ''pop-shit-''C''rap''

  • I don't like this version of the song.

  • I've loved this song since I first heard it on T.V. it was the theme for the western "Legacy" back in the late 90's.....

  • Such a powerful song. Always brightens my mood

  • Just commenting to a friend how much Annie Lennox's 2010 video of "God rest Ye Merry Gentleman" reminds me of this very song. He mentioned to me how much Loreena McKennitt looks like actress Helen Mirren!Eerily so- lol. Had never noticed it until he pointed it out to me. love this video so much.

  • Blessed Yule to all. )O(

  • I remember this was being played on mtv spring 1998 great song

  • This is the first song I ever heard by her and Ive been hooked ever since!!

  • this song is killing me!!!

  • Good song. I useto hear it on the radio years ago on B.98.5 i think. have always liked it.

  • This song will never cease to inspire me. Everytime I am feeling down, I listen to this song and it just uplifts me.

  • I think what I loved most of the video is how much fun the musicians where having. The best part of watching anyone perform is seeing how much they are enjoying themselves.

  • @thinkinthinker Yes, I think they did this video stoned. I love that one guy trashing around and headbanging like hes playing with slipknot. Thats freaking hilarious!

  • Did she do the Scottish music in the Highlander series?

  • Where can I buy this version of the song? I already have the album version but I can't find this one.

  • MY FIRST TIME HEARING THIS!!!! and its good.

  • This music is so beautiful :)

  • She is such an an amazing artist.

  • Love u

  • it is beautiful..........

  • What the hell is a Mummer?

  • this sound is like breath, it is a feeling

  • It's very beautiful...When i listen this song i relaxed...

  • I would play this song when I'm practicing with my wooden katana

  • this song is amazing. Gaia approves of this melody

  • This is the album version, in the 'Book of Secrets' album. Buy it NOW, this is just my third favorite song from it, behind 'Night Ride Across the Caucaus', and 'Skellig'.

  • her voice is a gift of God.sooo beautiful song

  • Does anyone know where to buy THIS version? I have the version with the longer intro that seems to be just a little slower, but this recording is more upbeat and me likey...

  • @indigohippee I'm not sure where you could buy it. This is the radio version. You could maybe download or buy it from her site, Quinlan Road. Or download it off of Youtube.

  • @IBiteTheHandThatFed

I'm saying buy the entire CD.

  • Great fall music of my people. Erin go bragh.

  • SIN DUDA UNA CANCION HERMOSISIMA, TODA UNA OBRA DE ARTE, ME DECLARO FAN TOTAL DE LOREENA, FUE GRACIAS A ELLA QUE DESCUBRI LA MUSICA CELTA, UN GENERO MAGICO Y MARAVILLOSA QUE TE LLEVA A OTROS MUNDOS, Y SIN DUDA LOREENA ES LA MAYOR EXPONENETE DE ESTE HERMOSO GENERO.......

  • Love this song and the video however, would have liked it better if uploader had removed their name from the middle of the video screen! It is easy to see who put this video on here...'nuff said.

  • @Stephen0417 Quinlan Road is Loreena McKennitt's record label.....she's making it loud and clear that this is HER property. XD

  • @SuperAdventures Thx for the update...wasn't sure if it was something similiar to Vevo. Guess I can deal with this since I listen to her music more than I view here videos.

  • I love you.

  • Canadian Ginger milf. I thought God usually says "no" to prayers...

  • you dislike this...your a douchebag..have fun in the closet loser..

  • I remember listening to this song on some movie trailer or something when I was a little kid, and I really liked the song. I'm 23 years old and this is the first time I'm hearing ever since that moment in my childhood. I still love this song and it goes to show you the power of music! Thank you!!!!

  • @undralique Duuuude, I loved this song when I was a kid.. I just heard it for the first time 15 years later. Goose bumps.

  • @undralique the movie trailer you're thinking of is for "Ever After" with Drew Barrymore.

  • @undralique Same here. The last time I heard the song, i was a kid. It was in the trailer of Ever After with Drew Barrymore.

  • @undralique me too! I believe it was from the film "Ever After, a Cinderella story" along with "tell me a fable"

    its so nostalgic :D

  • @undralique The exact same thing happened to me. I was looking for this song for years. I found out that it was used in the trailer for Everafter, but was not used in the actual soundtrack and that's why I was unable to find it. So glad I come across it again though. Love her music

  • @undralique what most people dont know is the mummers dance is a christmas tradition in ireland... its older than dirt and lm has really done which is far more value is bring the european music scene into the americas

  • @brl549782401 really > 3ku

    !

  • @brl549782401 Yes! Thanks for sharing that! :)

  • @undralique It could've been the trailer to Ever after the cinderella story with Drew Barrymore , cause I also Remember that and that's what motivated me to see the movie But I got disapointed because the song was not part of the actual soundtrack!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @undralique

same here i'm 23 as well this was on mtv a lot xD

  • @undralique Yup! I remember hearing this on the Cinderella trailer as well, but after a 12 year search, I am soooo happy to have finally found it here! :-D

  • i listened to her when i was 5 .....now i listren to my music xD but i thank this woman. without her my childhood wouldnt not be...........mine.

  • It's Fall again......always love listening to this song during the changing of the seasons. :)

  • Loreena is one of my all-time favorite singers, along with Kate Bush, Tori Amos, and Florence and the Machine.

  • I dare them to play an instrument that is more common than not at all. ;)

  • She keeps medieval folk music alive.

  • I listened to this woman when I was a kid in the 90s.

  • @JoyousinJesus lmao me too!

  • I really loved this well written, played and sang beautiful graphics thumbs up

  • awwwwww love this song!!!!!!!

  • Love this song but she's mixing two traditions - Mummers come around during Christmas time while May Day involves ribbons and trees.

  • БРАВО / BRAVO !!!!!

  • Beautiful song, beatiful poem, beautiful person! I love this song.

  • Thums up if this reminds you of "Doctor Who and the Stones of Blood."

  • Wow!! I haven't heard this some since I was in high school. It's like I'm 16 all over again. :)

  • 1:12 to 1:16... its the Burger King!

  • @ChokeOnYurLunch OMG!! I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thinks that! LOL!

  • She is beautiful.

  • Not only is she a little song bird she's quite a poet as well.

  • Fantastic but some background on the ritual in video would be appreciated..i hope they are all good Catholics and will be to the Parish Church when all that hat dance is over.

  • @Bruce99100

A bit of background info: Mummers were traveling performers in Ireland back in the old days. In essence they just danced to their tunes they created with whoever they came across.

  • So ethereal and mesmerizing! Beautiful

  • Beautiful

  • I love it°!!!

  • At 1:14, it's the Burger King!

  • @santoslittlehelper06 lol oh snap it's true!!! RoFL

  • What's the instrument that the guy is turning that crank on that box?

  • @AMH9217 It looks like a hurdy gurdy (aka a wheel fiddle). Hope that helps.

  • @AMH9217 That's a hurdy-gurdy

  • LOL! Everytime I hear this, all I can think is "Night Majik Radio!" So strange to see this in another context!

  • I love that it played on the Ever After: A Cinderella Story trailer!

  • i can play this over and over and over and over

  • That label on the video is in such bad taste.....

  • Makes me want to dance naked under the full moon :)

  • Is this particular version on any of her albums? I have several other versions but this is my favorite. Was it released as a single or something?

  • @okelydokely2 - Particular version of a group called "Quinlan Road", the owner is Loreena McKennitt!

  • @okelydokely2 This version (single version or "The Mummer's Dance Remix") was released twice: first as a cd single in 1998 and as a content of bonus disc from 2008 "The Journey Begins" box set. Both are available through Quinlan Road's webshop.

  • @bumpysterPL

Thanks for the information. I'll check Amazon.com.

  • beutiful i like this

  • Beautiful song. The music, lyrics, and vocals are perfect. The video on the other hand is another story entirely. It really gives me the creeps, but not in a bad way. Something about it. I get a sense of deja vu watching it. Almost as if it's a time period long, long ago that I live through and experienced. Weird.

  • @veilofmaya75 I am with your stance. Beautiful song indeed my friend. We must be friends.... ڿڰۣ✿

  • @ciaobaby66 I totally agree with you!!!!

  • @veilofmaya75 you probably have lived through it. i got the same feeling from it when it first came out too. this was the best song of 97 in my opinion. it couldnt be defined as a certain anything. very original

  • @datura1983 I think that you are right - I may have lived through it. Very strange. It's pretty cool that you got the same feeling. You and I may have even crossed paths back then. Even something as silly as Youtube could be used as a way to get two familiar souls to cross paths again centuries later. You never know.

  • @veilofmaya75 you probably have my friend

  • @shadowstalker2011 - You are probably right!

  • For anyone who doesn't know who Wayra is... Look up this same song by Wayra. it too is also AMAZING.

  • genial!!!

  • Love this song for years!!

  • The song is great, the video gives me nightmares. It looks like a traveling pack of backwoods mass murderers dancing around celebrating their latest victims. @_@

  • outstanding eerie song, one of loreenas, finest.

  • Makes me proud to be Irish and from Philly, where mummers dance yearly.

  • I got here by Shazaming Merzbow. This song is almost as bad as Merzbow, so it isn't too wrong I guess.

  • This is mesmerizeing, I just love it, :)

  • This song is VERY RELAXING TO HEAR IT!

  • There are 24 people who have no taste in music.

  • Screw the 24 who disliked it, best song ever

  • An incredible piece! Rarely does one ever hit musical perfection so as to be spiritual. This piece is transformative to those who hear the different drum.

  • @powwowdoc smoke sum dro and listen to this you will go into a misty forest under your covers MAN!@!!

  • such an uplifting version !!! ~~~yay ~~

  • amazing song

  • There are rare moments of perfection. This is one of them.

  • It's very rare that you find a song that transports you to another place and makes you feel like dancing and singing along with. I remember when this song hit the airwaves my friends thought I was crazy because I loved this song so much I would blare in on my car stereo and sing along with it.

  • @Kontovian I was also shocked and amazed when I found this song. I thought I would never hear it again simply because I didn't know how to find it.

  • Always looking forward to hear more of your musical artistry, Ms. McKennitt :) This one majestic, dreamlike & folklore song as appeared in several movie soundtracks. I actually bought the special CD which features 3 different mixes of this wonderful song back in 1997.

  • Always looking forward to hear more of your musical artistry, Ms. McKennitt :) This one majestic, dreamlike & folklore song as appeared in several movie soundtracks.

  • 1:25 <- CREEPY FACE.

  • I have always loved this song

  • amazing!!

  • Beautiful voice :) I listened to this everyday as I walked to school, taking the longest paths so I could listen to it for longer :')

I wish music was like this nowadays, very hard to find rare gems in music like Loreena xx

  • heard this song in porn:-D incredible..had to look it up..

  • @marekprazak sometimes porn movies' soundtracks are better than movies themselves

a few years ago me and a friend of mine used to switch on strip or really-softcore channels to listen to music: they used to pass Red Hot Chili Peppers and a really good rock music... we descovered Stereophonic in this way! in those years we had by porn what Mtv didn't gave us (music), and we had by Mtv what porn didn't gave us (porn)

those were the "fantastic" early '00 xD

  • @peppoz88 so real

  • I love you Loreena!!! you're the best!!!! simply the best!!!!. You made my heart become celtic and I'm so grateful for that!!!, I've got no words to describe how thankful I am for sharing your talent with the world, your music saved my life and I will always be indebted to you!!!! I adopted you as the mother I'd like to have, Love youuuuu!!!! My biggest dream is to meet you and thank you in person for everything you've done for me. I love you and always will!!! you're the best!!

  • I remember when this song charted, so the video would air on VH1. It was so cool seeing it play and hold its own with contemporary music.

  • @MorriganAtwood I remember too, it popped up on VH1's Top 10 Countdown in late '97...lots of musical competition that Fall.

  • This will always remind me of the night I embraced my Wiccan-ness :) - it was at the NYC Witches Ball in 2002; my best friend pulled me on to the packed dance floor...the energy was amazing...a true initiation took place. Blessed Beltane, everyone!

  • @morgaine531 Nice. This song to me is the ultimate for a Wiccan/Pagan wedding. It describes the ceremony nearly perfectly. B-B

  • @sheavepin Beltane- close enough.
