@NemesisIsOnTheWay Nah. that's probably badass for you, but in reality that big bulk would be the equal of a mentally challenged boy.. That guy sucked big donkey balls in this fight, not worthy of demonstrating what a skilled fighter Achiles is.
I'm impressed in how Achiles killed him by all means, but I can't help but hate the fact that he had such a Weak oponent..
@toxicitzi yeah the other guy is useless but this scene doesnt show achilles' ability. His ability is shown in the scene with Hector. Here you see that he is fearless. Everyone else would be afraid to fight this giant but he went for it.
Everybody here bitching about "what is accurate - what is not, oh gee look how intelligent I am..."
Yet they don't seem to have enough intelligence to know what "creative license" is. The oxymoronic diatribe here is hysterical.
Look "professors," if you want accurate retellings, either point them to the original book, an educational channel, or freakin' make the movie yourself. Otherwise, demanding Hollywood to mix historical / literary accuracy with ENTERTAINMENT is idiotic.
I've watced the movie. There are problems in the storyline-the movie and the iliad. One of these problems were the death of achilies-paris did kill himqbut after he shot him in the heel he shot four arows in his body.THE AROWS IN THE BODY KILLED HIM NOT IN THE HELL.
Get your history from hollywood and you're asking for it anyway.
Some are accurate, most kind of are. Some are just ridiculous.
It's entertainment. Yes it brainwashes people. Yes it deludes people. Yes it inspires people. It's a jigsaw puzzle. Trust it and you're dead. Ignore it and life can be a lot harder then it needs to be.
I love this scene.
People are people and if you get them on a certain path, you end up where the path leads.
If we can't base it off of Troy, what are we supposed to base it off of? The Iliad? If the Trojan War happened, which there is no irrefutable proof that it even did, than this would be much more realistic than the version where the Greek Gods appear and help Achilles kill Hector, and so on and so forth. Unless you're saying we shouldn't pretend to know the story of The Iliad based off of this movie, in which case, I agree wholeheartedly.
Achilles was touched by the gods. Leonidas is just a damn good warrior. No matter how good you are, a warrior touched by the gods will beat anyone(unless of course Leonidas stabs Achilles in his heel).
Leonidas will own achilles. leonidas was a born king since he was a child. archilles is a good warrior but not enough for leonidas. so dont you believe what u see in movies.
Shame we dont know too much detail about how 1 to 1 fights actually happened. Thinking about it there would of been thousands of champion v champions duels. There just not alot of evidence left for us to find out.. It only in the illiad and the bible that gives us some clues.
All these comments are v. interested regarding historical accuracy etc, but Achilles prob never existed in the way he is often portrayed - he's just a myth. Also there there is no concrete evidence that the Trojan War ever existed or indeed, if there was such a city of Troy
there may be some ruins but nobody really knows for certain if its Troy. All this occurred when mythological beings were the subject of many stories. separating fact from fiction is v.difficult.
@timnuk Yes. The signal to noise ratio is very low. Achilles himself must be about 24 dB below all that arcing, fading, and lightning crashes. And don't forget that strong WWJD time signal carrier at DC, or is that -4 BC??? People need to enjoy the movie. I'll believe there was a troy when someone shows me a color Autochrome slide taken during time of Achilles. And no, there wasn't a recording of Abraham Lincoln.
Dont speak shit if you dont now abouht history . Achileys EXIST its a truh story righten by Father of history Homers , also Alexander The great find his grave and take from him his armer Achileys was Alexanders idol as a yung boy,and than he destroy persians.
im getting fed up by all these stupid remarks. Homer wrote about troy over a hundred years after the event - so he can only give an accurate account if he was there, but he wasnt!
also, if achilles was real then he was immortal apart from his ankle and was trained to fight by a half man/half horse? Do me a favour! If you believe that then you must be utterly daft!
Homer olso talk abought gods hoo fighting and flayng , he give to a truh story same detail from tha deep past for better story... hoo was the cince of man beter than today bevor tha big katasrofic ... look NASA studik for years homer for hes talking abought the past.
ok the half man half hourse i think your thinking of hercules...and your trying to tell me true storys can be exajrated mate i mean look at father christmas started as a guy droping money downa chimley tothe poor now hes a fat guy flying on raindeers
Heres why your stupid, type in Heracles in Google, or look it up in an Encyclopedia Britannica and you will find that in Greek it is pronounced Heracles,
Hercules is they Latin translation of the character
all those atemps of altering history should be stoped. lots of people have seen the film Troy and think that they know what happened. they should not base their knowledge upon a holywood production. likewise MACEDONIA was in greece and skopia where known buck then as PEONIA. calling the people of bulgaria macedonians is wrong and against the history. stop helping them to alter the history for political reasons.
@kingkrown1 he is right people think they know something cause they saw a movie about it and dont bother to look it upwho knows how many facts a movie gets wrong
@viperidis It's not history in the sense of, lets say, the battle of Thermopylae. The STORY of Troy was written by Homer (not Simpson). So when you say, "they should not base their knowledge upon a holywood production." I would have to ask you, why not? It's not like there was a REAL battle of Troy. So what the hell are you talking about? Really, the movie was not that inaccurate. Besides the fact that Hector was not chased around the city walls and Achilles was a pedo. It's MYTHOLOGY!
@emt0229 It's not (only) mythology, it's (also) LITERATURE! When you want to make a film based on a certain literary work or a group of works, you have to respect these works. The Iliad, as a literary work, cannot be followed 100% when it is being modified for cinema, I understand that. But you cannot make Menelaus dying and Helen escaping with Paris. Imagine how would it be if someone made a film about Romeo and Juliet and had them get married and get old together. Would that be OK?
@emt0229 actually some believe that the battle of troy actually happened...putting it somewhere in 1190 bc(around that time anyway...)..oh achilles may have been a pedo.and a homosexual.the societies were different.u weren't a pedo so much as bringing a boy into manhood.and the homosexuality was a way of showing the affection to the fellow soldier...look at Hercules,Achilleas and others..(xena unfortunately must have been straight...damn.. :) )
@ThePiperia You are quite right about the general matter, but not so much about Achilles. The basic text about Achilles is the Iliad of course. There, Achilles is not depicted - either directly or indirectly - as having homo relationship. Patroclus (who some people believe was his lover) was older than Achilles (so he couldn't be his eromenos) and there is no clue that they had sexual relationships.

And yeah his heel was his only weakness because of this.
