Puerto Rico has a native tribe(like every caribbean island) The Taino Indians, and the tribe in Puerto Rico( back then called Borinquen) called themselve's Boricuas, which means "Valient people" . The Tainos called the island Borinquen" Land of the brave noble lord" so We( Boricuas) call ourselve's Boricuas.
