@Whompman9000 I started playing this game at the age of 5 or 6 and didn't have a chance to play it again until a year or two ago. It's a rare game and actually has ties to eastern philosophy and mysticism, connecting the dots might be your next step if you actually want to go through the trouble of understanding the game.
@Whompman9000 Yep, I finished it through a while back, and it was actually one of the motivating forces behind me starting this channel. :) I might actually commit to playing through this finally.
On the tree of life segments, my screen is blacked out besides the pictures of the eyes/nose/mouths, is this because of my computer being too new or something?
I had to install quicktime in a weird way to get this to work, haha
I won't tell you what it is, but I will tell you how to get it, when you get the password you will also get key information about the island that has not been disclosed to you yet.
The password is pretty easy to find, here's a hint. It's in the land of life, and it's on the ground. It's the creature that gives you hints, but you will have to click somewhere on the middle of him to have him continue his sentence. It took me more than one try, good luck.
You know, I actually considered that, as I'd managed to get him to speak his name once before in Mon-chien. But then I couldn't figure out how to get him to say it again, so I just sort of dropped it. Thanks for that!
One last thing, though. I'm doing Kai now, and I've already seen his vision in Ping-chao, but naturally, I haven't a clue where to find any giant red sea anemones. This is my last mission, mind giving me a hint?
Kai's life mission is to put out a very important candle in the land of time. But the only water that will put it out is the water that flows in Ping-Chao.
When you go to Kai's room in Ping-Chao, use the item given to you to collect the water. Then proceed to the land of time to find the most important candle of them all.
I could've sworn I tried clicking on the video. BOY DO I FEEL SILLY.
So I've beaten the game, but I also realize there's all sorts of fringe quests left for me to solve. Should I bother with them? Is the reward worth it?
You can go around forever to find little secrets that you haven't seen or found before.
It's up to you, I've rated this game one of the greatest of all time, even though the graphics and gameplay aren't quite as good as some of the ones today, the way things play out and how things work, the characters make this game something different than anything I've ever seen.
@Obscuritory Again I had to seriously put forward a lot of perseverance and spend ours looking around Tong Nou looking for the answer, and just randomly clicking around on the character, I found the answer. I surprised myself!
It's a zen game, you're not going to get the full experience out of it, unless you're spirituality has something to do with Eastern Mysticism, or at least you're interested in Eastern Mysticism. The fact that most of the main story Elements of the game are inside the Tong Nou illustrated book, proves that you have to read to understand what's going on. It's not one of those games where you can just wing it and you'll eventually beat it, you really have to think and explore.
mrbobmanbob, I'd probably put some weight behind both ideas. As you get further on in the game, the mysticism and Zen parables become clearer and more obvious, especially the reincarnation mechanic. That said, this game is supremely fucked up.
That is agreeable. I mean, there is a lot of zen to this whole dealie and it does get deep, but seriously look at those fucking things. It's like H.P. Lovecraft shat out Salvador Dali after eating Picasso.
hahahahah, now that's funny. But I think it's the weirdness factor that gives it such charm. It's a game where you can never expect what you're going to find, until you find it and then you're like "whoa, wtf!?" But of course Eastern Mind FTW, always.

The graphics are a bit unnerving, but I'm really interested in playing this. It all seems to interesting, and I'm liking the soundtrack a bit.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned this, but this game is like a 3d version of Yume Nikki... on crack.
This came first, though. Still, the first thing I thought of when the exploration part came up was Yume Nikki.
