I know hardly anything about F-15s but if they are anything like Hornets then the #2 engine provides HYD2A/HYD2B hydraulic pressure to the gear, nose wheel steering, brakes, spoilers, and a few others. IF the F-15 is like the Hornet then it would explain the situation. He probably used the emergency extension for the gear and kept it above speed so he could fly the approach on a lower thrust setting so he didn't have to fight adverse yaw the whole way down. That what I would have done anyway.
i don't understand why he landed so hot.it wasn't like landing without a wing,he just lost an engine! And,still,if he was decisive to do a fast approach for safety reasons,he could have used the airbrakes at the end! This doesn't make sense at all
@frizstyler the engine was on fire, he wanted to get down as quickly as possible and try to save the aircraft rather than eject and ditch an aircraft worth many millions of dollars. Whether or not he succeeded I don't think we'll find out.
@StevenNFFC That aircraft was from my unit. The #5 engine bearing failed causing the fire. The pilot landed doing around 220 KIAS (too fast) and ended up going off the other end of the runway, ejected and the aircraft was a total loss. Too much damage, grass and chickens.
@DoctaStockta thanks for the update mate :). I just find it funny all of these people who suddenly think they're fighter pilots because they've played a flight simulator game, have you seen them in the comments?

That must take some skill landing at that speed

i would of been like "fuck it im bailing you can clean up the mess"!! the pilot kept calm to the end hats off to him!!

It seemed more like a dual engine failure which might explain the high speed and lack of hydraulics for brakes, but this is just a guess.

Landed at 240 but it should have been 140? Didn't use flaps nor break because they would have slowed him down prior to touchdown?
0MoTheG 10 months ago
@0MoTheG In my opinion... the runway was very closer, and wasn't so much time to slow down and do the right procedure...
Flaps he didn't use because the speed was high to it.
Brakes.. well he could had use it.. but i think he wanted to " waste " more runway.
Good job to the pilot.
