As a fan of the first series who doesn't speak german, what's the deal with the ring? What is it and why it important that Anton won it?

Apparently, from what I can make out, the ring is very sacred to the vampires, having once belonged to Count Dracula, and is entrusted to the certain vampire family that wins it at the Vampire Festival (which occurs every 150 years) until the next festival. Of course, it would have been impossible for Anton to hold the ring for that long, so he cleverly avoids accepting the honor by pretending that he and his family, being "newbies", are "renovating" their crypt, and have no place to hide it.

Thanks very much. I only ever saw the original series so it was neat to see this one even if I couldn't understand exactly what they were saying. I have to say that it is a lot brighter than the original. More song numbers as well.
