Slade influenced top 100 Greatest acts like Queen, AC/DC, Status Quo, Oasis, the Ramones, Nirvana, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, U2, the Clash etc. One of the most influential rockbands ever that could also do classical violin/piano based ballads, country, gospel, soul, jazz, punk etc. Grossly underrated, too bad they did not make it big in the U.S.

Agreed. Slade always did this song spectacularly well because all the guys really seem to buy into the emotion of the song (even with the inevitable Noddy "burp"), but what Sebastian pulled off with that off the cuff solo acoustic version of this under very difficult circumstances at Woodstock is truly inspiring. A great song given the respect it deserves by both artists.

A great song done by a great band, Noddy Holder definately knew how to sing this song though the priginal on the album was a bit better, and BTW there was a cover done of this by Joe Cocker, he does it well but Noddy Holder sang the original and best version

If he got that wrong that would have been the end of the tour. Brilliant! I had developed an inherent dislike of Slade because of that damned christmas song (it's a great song, but bah humbug etc.), but this is one hell of a cover. No shortage of emotion, to say the least, and an interesting interpretation, and he's a funny fucker too :) . Can anyone tell me what sort of tele he has in this vid? Black pickguard and full sized single coil neck pup, and perhaps some other differences my eye missed. I'm off to research Slade some more :)

@beroth77 None can make a cover of Noddy. By the way the original version of the song is nothing special /John Sebastian/. Noddy can sing a TELEPHONE BOOK in one breathe. Perfect and very very unique voice. So gentle, with so much energy, like a sandpaper. Extremely rich voice!

I was wondering when I might find a new artist to listen to/explore. Answered! In a 24-hour period without even really looking, at that; Joe Cocker's version led me to this. Thanks for the upload. Man, toward the end he goes all Robert Plant, that was frickin' cool.

Noddy Holder had a true Rock N Roll kind of scream :) Why doesn't anyone try and sing in that sort of style? I recon they should. Bring back the '70s!
