This is much better than Weissenberg. More caring, pacing is better, touch, feeling, all that. Weissenberg is too heavy handed and plays Debussy like Beethoven. Debussy needs a light touch and breathing room.
DesAbends, thank you very much for taking the trouble to upload all of these gorgeous Debussy pieces. It must have taken some effort - with the Monet too. Well done to you man.
I can hear the Far East in this piece very clearly. Having lived there for 6 years I can really detect it. Great piece - and not one of Debussy's most prominent either.
This is my favourite interpretation. Richter plays it too heavy.....I love the dreamy, floating poetic feel of this. It's like floating on air during a warm afternoon.
This is my favourite piano piece by Debussy, and in general. It is simply amazing, with perfect articulation it just sounds beautiful. This version is pretty good, but the one I have on a CD of Debussy is perfect. Anyone thinking they'd like to play this, play it! Or at least have a record of it!
@SweeetPea95 I have to disagree. He plays it too fast for my ears, and ruins what is supposed to be a beautifully paced tempo. Weissenberg plays a wonderful Clair De Lune...but he rushes every other Debussy piece I have heard him play. I prefer this version by far.
Fine.... I have his recordings of the complete piano work of Rachmaninov (RCA) and I have always found an interesting understanding, combined with a great technic.....as it is here...
I had the opportunity to talk to him 25 years ago and I appreciated both his sophisticated mind as well as his modesty . I am glad to hear his interpretation of Pagodes. Thanks !!
who is playing this? :)

@juanunzu :) This version is a little too slow for me, Alexis Weissenberg plays it beautifully.
