  • @welovelmfao It means that, in addition to several other mistakes that other commentators have pointed out, the person who created this video forgot the word 'nigh'. It's 'there wasn't nigh as many as there was awhile ago.'

  • Andrew jackson was known as Old Hickory

  • just wondering...it is briars not wires!

  • Whoever wrote the lyrics out to this song should learn to spell... i.e. Mississippi and Squirrel not Missisipi and Squirll

  • ouch

  • Sensei48 shutup and enjoy the song :D

  • nigh

  • Just a little FYI - the song was written and originally recorded by Jimmy Driftwood, a kind of proto-country star of the 1940s and 50s. He also wrote the similar-sounding and very popular "Tennessee Stud."

  • i like this song but at 1:25 it says wires instead of briars

  • Great song! But really, how could you mistake Ole Hickory:)

  • down with the british up with the IRA

  • *weren't NIGH as many"

  • two things.....supposed to say "were NIGH as many..." and "Old Hitcreek" should be "Old Hickory" which was Andrew Jackson's nickname.

  • Whoever transcribed this video, it's Gen. Andrew Jackson was "Old Hickory" not "Old Hitcreek".

  • 107 people got cannon balls put in their head and their behinds powdered............ then lost their mind xD

  • Not to nitpick, but if the point is the lyrics, maybe the lyrics should be, you know, correct. Or even close.

  • They ran through the BRIARS (not the wires) . . .

  • Hickory, not Hitcreek. Briars, not wires.

  • 106 people are british

  • we learned this for history hahaha stuck in my head all day

  • who first sung this??? still fricken funny thgh

  • hickory not hitcreek their talking about Alan Jackson

  • @XxXBeastificationXxX , Alan Jackson is a country singer... ANDREW Jackson, also known as Ol' Hickory, was at this time a Colonel in the Continental army, and later President of the United States. Lol

  • @MiAmor4Eva whoops...

  • @XxXBeastificationXxX Not Alan Jackson, he's the country singer. You mean Andrew Jackson the 7th president of the United States. His nickname was Old Hickory.

  • @rltuthill i know whoops like i didn't mean to say that's i gotcha

  • I gotta bit of hitcreek for the enemies of the free world!

  • BEST SONG EVER!!!

this song is like the theme song of my family

  • Great song - thanks for posting. Oh, by the way, you need some spelling and grammar lessons.

  • @JDnBeastlet Don't take this the wrong way or anything. But fuck off.

  • @disenchanted79 Sorry, that last sentence isn't properly structured. Perhaps you should try an ellipsis (...) between "anything" and "but".

  • We heard this song in class today in S.S.

  • In the beggining of the song, he doesn't say " Mississip. He says Mississippi in a deep voice.

  • @JasmineNshawn nice try but he actually does say "mississip."

  • @Ryuu501st you need to change 1812 to 1814.

  • @Balto2WolfQuest The battle didn't take place until 1815, but we refer to the entire war as the "War of 1812", so he's correct in saying the battle "took place at the end of the war of 1812".

  • @doubleaction0080 oh my mistake XD

  • I love this song! I showed a few kids in my class the music I like: Johnny Cash, this song, etc. They were so confused and thought I was so weird. All they listen to is rap. Which is just fast talking with a beat. I hope songs like this aren't forgotten due to this rap nonsense. LONG LIVE COUNTRY MUSIC!

  • Old hickory. Andrew Jacksons nickname.

    Chuck Norris of this period.

  • @DevinDipper20 lolthe first american badass of the early 1800s

  • Old Hickory not Hitcreek

  • 105 british have now heard this song

  • 2012 we took along with Ron Paul over the mighty um... Potomac

We took a little bacon and we took a little beens and we caught the blood feds on 2000 L street

and we Fired our guns but the Feds kept a coming there wasn't as many as there was awhile ago

we fired our guns and they begain a running across new england and back too Britain

  • nobody won, we fought for no good reason. We FINALLY signed a treaty [ It is in HISTORY ]

  • America lost the war though

  • @uafchris ok if we lost the war how come the british arent controlling the United States right now?? have you had History yet?

  • Comment removed

  • @fableprphecy The US won World War II. Why aren't we in control of Germany/Japan/Italy? Just because you won a war, doesn't mean to gain territory. Fucking derp.

  • @uafchris actually there was no clear winner. The treaty of Ghent was signed a few days before this battle and the treaty didn't say which side won it was more like "We're tired of fighting let's call a draw"

  • @crazychica4383 Suppose so, no one gained anything , though the British/Canadians did stop the America from invading Canada, which was one of their main aims.

  • Oh my gosh its a song u don't need to correct every spelling error and i believe that the public school system is fine so y'all just need to stfu

  • Its briers not wires!! it is good thoug, sang it in 5th grade, but that was long ago.

  • andrew jacks.. HE Was a maverick..

  • John paul vann had a very simmliar methodology. Based on Sir Robert Thompson's Stragedy in Malaysia. Australian forces understood gurrliea warfare also, from the Confratation with Sukaro's Indonesia.

  • Never seen so many misspelled words> Mississippi?

  • @Elizabeth19841984 Yes. That's how you spell Mississippi. It's funny you noted so many spelling errors, (and yes, the huge number of spelling errors is outrageous), but the one word you offer as incorrect is actually properly spelled. However, I've seen worse, for example the post that immediately followed yours. Nearly every other word was butchered: "simmliar", "Stragedy", "gurrliea", "Confratation". I blame the Public School system.

  • My teacher played this in class today! (and yesterday)

  • Im english, this is a awesome song, im going to my local pub today and after ive had a few pints im going to sing this.

  • @BigLeatherJacket

I think there might actually be a Commonwealth version of this song, if you want to use it. Replaces "British" with "Rebels".

  • @BigLeatherJacket

Never mind. I looked it up and the lyrical changes make it kinda shitty.

  • America lost the 1812 War though. Canada stylin', Whitehouse burnin', Manifest Destiny failin'

  • Redneck pride

  • @OrnateDagger i understand your point, besides its kinda foolish to fight with any americans this is in the past we are brothers and i think we can all agree we have worse things to worry about now a days. you americans are not my enemy there is a greater threat and if they step foot on "our" continent we must do everything to defend it!!

  • @sickznations666

    I'm Canadian. :)

  • This song is beast, especially since i am in AP US History

  • andrew jackson could do two things well War and beating the piss out of people with a cane.

and killing people in duels so 3 things

  • @dbpgh are you really that fuckin stupid dumbass yankee i'm not british you fuckin moron you can tell that in my comment you simple son of a bitch! you cant say anything about my comment it speaks for itself you lost the NAM cause your nation didnt have the will it was a 9 to 5 war you followed in the same footsteps as the french with more devastation its sad that at the time the most powerful nation our world has seen half assed it and showed its weakness and unwillingness!!

  • @sickznations666

    @dbpgh

Also worth mentioning are the humiliating losses in the War of 1812 when they tried to invade Canada. To be fair, the Americans kicked ass (like in the Battle of New Orleans) when the British actually attacked, but the ground war in Canada was just embarrassing.

You guys don't always bring magical eagle victory wherever you go, that's basically what I'm saying. Own and accept your entire history, not just the awesome, good parts.

  • @OrnateDagger all joking aside, america was lost a million times. at a certain point GW definetely made it happen, but wars are usually won on the mistakes of the enemy.at least in pre-modern times.

  • @sickznations666 you silly lil brit (meaning anyone with a coin that has the queens face on it).but like i wrote, bros in arm, whether or not one brother has the face of a queen on their coins as a sign of submission.as far as nam, you really hurt my feelings there.i think had the us employed ol hicks strategy there in nam, like we did here in the US,ass kickins plenty.

  • @dbpgh

I'm going to be civil, but I do take offense to the "sign of submission" thing. I fucking hate the monarchy. I find it completely disgusting that I live in a country that's supposedly democratic and inclusive, but technically does recognize a queen.

What's more, there's not really any submission anyway. For all intents and purposes, the Prime Minister is the head of state, not the Queen. She exists to ceremonially nod her head at everything we suggest.

  • @OrnateDagger dont mean to offend you.im just saying that if the queens is on ones coin, you cant really distance your country too much from having a monarchy or some sort of alleguiance therein, figureheads or not.

  • @dbpgh

Fair enough. As I said, it does really bother me that we haven't told the Queen to fuck off. :)

  • @OrnateDagger i think they have the message, in all parts ; )

  • @dbpgh dont fuckin call it nam fuckin lazy ass, VEITNAM

  • @MUNCHIES46 Vietnam, whose lazy now?

  • ur mom

  • @MUNCHIES46 "Veitnam" eh?

  • to all you yankees callin my british brothers tea drinkin bastards? learn your history you ignorant fools what happened in malaysia in 1948-1960 a communist insurgency in which my brothers did it proper and won that war, what happened in the NAM you dumb fuck americans were like them dumby french fucks n half assed it and lost and it showed to the world and the soviets, when on your own you havent got a leg to stand on you false pride morons you fought it by yourself and lost by yourself!!!

  • @sickznations666 england got a nice ass kickin from a people who learned about freedom. now a days we are brothers in arms, even though you tea drinkin proper queen lovin hard-to-tell-if-gay-or-not people are not ready to forget about american independance, i think are larger enemies in common should take center stage.

  • Prior to the battle, Colonel Andrew Jackson gave one of the finest and most eloquent speeches in history. He recognized the true diversity of his soldiers, and praised each person for his upcoming part in the fight. When we talk of leadership and bravery, such historic figures deserve our study and gratitude.

  • 102 British Disliked this

  • @Britainsloyalist Did I say my relative was a foundin father? learn to read you fuckin imbecile. I wasnt talkin of 1812 either, your way too late. Im talkin 1600-1700's. Aye, I said "British takin what wasnt theirs", they stole the entire country from the Indians when they colonised. They also took Canada from the French to start with in the 'Seven Years War, btwn1754-1763. How do you think the British Empire grew? By War and by colonising and taking land from natives all over the world.

  • Respond to this video... also i am very aware that it's all "ancient" history and by now the US won't ever take Canada..... we cant even maintain control overseas. i was just stating what i know

  • @relxn

alright, first there are a lot of things wrong with this country, second; where else would we learn about the War of 1812.... ever think of that?

  • BIARS & BRAMBLES GO TOGETHER LIKE RABBIT STEW AND CARROTS.

  • love this song! :)

  • Right on Lamar5.

  • They didn't run through the "wires"; they ran through the "briars."

  • @Larmarch5 right! and it's ol' Hickor'ee not ol hitchee. My daddy used to sing this to us when we were little.

  • Is no one else going to say anything about all the errors? I mean this person was nice enough to go through the trouble of putting SOME lyrics up, at least we can help em out with corrections :) like "ol' Hitcreek"?? Last time I checked, Andrew Jackson's nickname was "Old Hickory" or "Ol' Hick'ry" for the sake of this song. Thanks for putting this up though!!!!

  • had a dream i played this song with my math teacher and my english teacher at one of their bar gigs

  • i love this song

  • The battle took place 8 January 1815 but it was in december 1814 when Jackson movilized his troops

  • its BRIERS not wires

  • @JacobBlackGirl001 *Briars

  • We saw this in class today.

  • @TheHOP88 IKR :D lol

  • @TheHOP88 same haha

  • @below

And, the battle took place in 1815

Laughed my ass off when i learned that good old alexander keeth and his friends saved a bunch of confederate prisoners in the civil war, it's fun being from nova scotia

  • Silly yank, it's "briars" not "wires"! What wires would there have ben at that time? And it's "nigh as many as there was be for". Wow, how'd you union guys ever win the next war?

  • @concretesailors cuz were badasses

  • this songs legit

  • we watched this in my us histiory 1&2 and sung every single word the rest of my class thought this was torture

  • Poor alligator

  • Its so funny that the americains are so proud about killing sodiers AFTER the war was over. The brits burned the whitehouse, and the amercains won a battle after the war was over... who did more? ;)

  • @XenocideHipHop

Quite irrelevant on both sides, considering the Treaty of Ghent pretty much reset the gameboard and acted like the war never happened

  • @saxophoneftw Very true, STATUS QUO ANTE BELLUM. thats the latin phrase for it. Its still amusing that the amricains think they "Won" the war. Really, no one won and the natives lost, thats all that the happened because of the war.

  • damn, the chorus would be great for US soccer supporters to sing when we play England.

  • I'm surprised at how many Brits are insulting the Americans, and how many Americans are insulting the Brits. Get over your damn petty squabbles, guys, Britain and the US are sister nations, since WWI. Hell, we Americans(Most of us anyways) come from the Brits, so when we insult the Brits, we insult ourselves, really. Moral of this story? We're brothers in arms, whether you guys like it or not. Go GB and US. (And even this comment will probably get a lot of 'You're stupid' returns.)

  • they ran through the briars not the wires!

  • waasdsddsdsds

  • I like how everybody missed squirrel being spelled wrong

  • @imgonnastabyou, I'm no redcoat stupid fuckin yankee, i live in a country where we have jobs, the housing market didn't crash and our tax dollars go to healthcare and not a bloated military who hasn't won a war since you gave ho chi minh arms against the imperial japanese and also to expell french colonial power in indochina only to merely turn around in the 60's to fight him come to think of wasn't it in 1980 the russo-afghani war that bin laden was supplied with arms with the same effects??

  • It's they ran threw the briers and the brambles not wires and brambles
