  • Fantastic driving! A testament to your driving skill and the 260's handling.

  • what was ur nav doing to prevent sliding over into the shifter? knee restrant or something?

  • Amazing car control. It reminded me of Glen Seton in the Nissan Skyline Turbo many years ago in the wet across the "top of the Mount". Well done Dean. Seemed like a huge amount of understeer.

  • WOW Nice driving. I was clenching my buttcheaks watching this!!!

  • Understeer & oversteer..fuckin splippery road..great job, mate!

  • listen to his breathing, he was working really hard.

  • Jeez that looked slippy.... some horrid understeer moments at times!

    Good job though!

  • Great video, thanks for sharing. Noticed your left leg was hitting/pressing the shifter, I've made some simple modifications to my Lotus shifter that raised it about 4-5 inches and moved it away from my leg (much eaiser/better feel) and as far as I know it doesn't violate and spec rules (so far).

I can see a sequential box being a huge help in these types of racing events. - Rob

  • that man barely fit in the car...

  • I liked this vid a lot, although never really thought about how narrow is the interiror of an elise or elise-derived car, you left leg is constantly pushing against the gearknob!

  • that´s an stock 260 cup? for rallye do you need something more or you can race with stock one?

    LOOOOVE THAT CAR!!

  • Awesome. Both the notes and the driving. Really well controlled. It got hairy a few times for sure.

  • Too hard on the gas many corners, and broke traction, then had to juggle the power slides. Might be fun, but costs you time.

I've done the climb out of Queenstown many times. And you can spin the wheels in almost anything in the wet, but it doesn't mean you go faster.

  • i love ya car bruv could i have a hat

  • who was in the 911? To wet for the big german?

  • He is 1 of the best driver in the world

  • are those post fences going to help if the car lost it? will them prevent the car from rolling into the valley? I race also, but I think hill climb is the most dangerous motorsport in the world.

  • Great video. Excellent piece of driving & navigating.

  • talk about driving on the "edge", literally! Well done.

  • Wow! I'm telling my missus to quit her job and start learning pace notes instead.

  • Wow!!! I can't wait to get my Exige on to the track.

  • 3rd place is AWESOME!

  • LOL, pwnd a porsche driver

  • nice co .. driver talk ..

    controlled and concise .

  • "Believe!" I love it!!

  • What a handful!!!

  • hahaha porsche driver eat your heart out!

  • Awesome driving. That was on the limit, hairy arse stuff.

  • Awesome driver man. I wanna try that also.

  • What does 'right entry' mean? Also, holy crap that looks slippery!

  • That was awesome!! Great driving!

  • Great video, tires must have been real cold.

This was so much more fun to watch than a shitty Kevin Weeks Lambo video I watched before, Dean Evans and his co driver have their game together where as Kevin Weeks was braking extremely early for every corner and probably no faster despite having twice the power.

  • 2:47... i would love to see the footage from the chopper! Great drive but you really should have cut the slicks!!!

  • Maaassive understeer and then sudden power oversteer!!! Great driving Dean!!!

  • What does late and long mean?

  • that was pretty commited all the way through. lovely. makes me realise that if i entered id probably finish only ahead of the old farts in the vintage cars, and maybe that porsche you steam rolled.

  • What do the numbers corresponding with the corners mean? Are they simply the degree of the turn?

  • Yes, a 1 is a hairpin, 3 is a right-angle, and a 10 is a corner that's almost a straight. The other numbers relate to distance in metres: "50, 3Left long into 3Right late" means 50 metres until a 90-degree left, then immediately into a 90 degree right.

  • @TarmacMag thanks for explaining that m8!

  • WOW you are the god of driving!

  • talk about understeer!

  • yea , massive under steer !!!

it got better as the run went on , cold semi slicks ?

  • This Exige seems hard to control on these little roads, but nice driving skills though !

  • Awesome driving, the car looks like its a handful!

  • Great stuff guys!

  • Awesome driving Dean! What a brilliant video. I'm also a big supporter of Tarmac Magazine, keep up the good work.

  • Damn he's a good driver! To hold onto that mid engined lotus sideways is great to see! My boss was driving the Trolli Lotus Exige there :)

  • Excellent Dean. Well driven. Absolutely thrashed our time on that stage (Car #715 Porsche).

  • That's a great insight to what you guys get up to and how dangerous it is. Great navigating too. Very calming. Would have loved to see video of the 944 trying to rockclimb!!!

  • Look at Dean at bathurst, search for that video ;)

  • amazing!

  • Fantastic! You're real quick on the steering when it starts to step out.. I guess the lotus can get out of shape very quickly.

I love the note "believe". I need some of that in my pace notes.

  • RME cars may become tricky under some circumstances. You just have to show excellent driving skills to prevent some out-of-shape drama. Once off-balance, you'd better hit the middle pedal hard!... 8)

  • Well done mate! Was the stage wet and you had so much understeer? Excellent car control when "powersteering"! 8)

You really made my day, since I 've ordered a Cup 260 to be delivered next month! :)

    Cheers,

    Theo

  • Yeh, the road was very slick but remember the tyres are dead cold at the start of a stage - the Kumhos we were running were simply brilliant and quick to warm and grip. Without those V70 tyres we wouldn't have been as quick. And look for the surface change part way up where it gets slippery again. Hell of a ride - you're going to love the Cup 260!

  • Thanks for your reply, and I wish you all the best in your future races! We're all looking forward to seeing your podium finishes (and HOW-TOs! :) ) soon again!

  • @TarmacMag That is simply amazing power-slide control. Amazing, you can see that by the end of the stage you were a bit more quicker, when tyres were at least a bit warm. I have V70s on my supercharged elise, and they are brilliant!

  • Amazing Dean! I knew you would do this car proud, to drive the car that hard and bring it back in one piece, amazing stuff mate. See you soon.

  • Great video mate - inspiring stuff !

  • under steer, over steer, 4 wheel drift, all on one of the wildest stages on earth. A1 for effort and car control! you do know that if you fall off the edge you will land on another planet, its the edge of the earth!

  • Nice work to both you and Simone.... the Kuhmo's are perfect for that stage

  • Well done mate, nice car control!

    Brett

  • Very cool...looks like a Sunday drive

  • Great Footage Dean!
