  • but in the age of Mozart and Beethoven and the great composers of the classic times beheld the harp as a very restricted instrument, nice, and sometimes they did use it, but they didn't do a lot with it.

My dream is to make a living out of it. That's what would love, to play concerts in big halls, that would be great. Now, as a harpist, you really have to fight for something like that, but I hope that will change in the future and the harp will be fully respected as a solo-instrument.

  • The harp is the oldest instruments in the world, or at least one of the oldest, the story goes that one of the hunters, the ancient ones, once shot an arrow, and the arrow made a sound, and after a while they decided to put another arrow in the bow so there were two sounds, and that's kind of how the harp came to be.

We have some very old examples, like David, who played harp in the bible, and the harp is often depicted in ancient pictures,

  • This is a harp for studying, those are less expensive, I think this is.. about.. €20,000, but a real pedal-harp is about €30,000 or more. You also have those grotesque harps with gold and stuff, those cost about twice as much.

It's still okay, if you look like some other instruments, I mean, we don't have a €1,000,000 harp, or more, like some violins can cost.

    "Hey, come on in.

    This is my harp.

In general, people think it's always blond ladies with long hair and angel-like dresses who will play beautiful music which you can only hear in heaven.... But actually that's not true at all.

It's more... The instrument is very versatile.

You can play this... But you can also play this..."

  • I can very well remember playing at the "concertgebouw" when I was sixteen, in the big hall, with an orchestra, I was playing a solo, and I was behind these huge doors and these stairs, and when the doors opened, that was like jumping out of an airplane. Afterwards I couldn't remember anything of the whole concert, it was just one big blackout, there was so much adrenaline going through me.
