@arronnov I've read many journal articles and books on the Bantu expansion and how they basically overran or absorbed the Khoisan and Pygmy peoples, much like the Spaniard and Portuguese did to the natives in the New World (same ruthlessness, but with far less technology). But for me, the most telling thing was that I spoke to many Khoekhoe and San descendants themselves on my travels through Zimbabwe, Zambia and South Africa. They all confirm this.

But the fact is most immigrants preferred to be with their own kind, at least for the first couple of generations. So when they formed labor unions, the white owners employed other races as strikebreakers. Soon, the "minorities" (laborers) got wise and worked with each other on collective strikes and bargaining. Essentially we're both US minorities, but your ancestors were involuntary, mine were voluntary. Ogbu's thesis explains the attitudes, actions we see for various minority groups today.

So whites, who are less than 1/3 the population, are normally referred to as "haoles"-- foreigners, in Hawaiian --which is not necessarily pejorative, but sometimes can be. So many whites are shocked to suddenly live a daily life as a "minority" in their own country. Of course they are not completely disempowered, but a substantial edge is taken off their normal hegemonic assumption. It's all numbers.

@arronnov People of color have less problems reproducing because they start at much younger age, do not plan their families. They also live shorter lives, so the generational cycle is shorter. Most whites delay parenting until well into their 30s, often their 40s, when fertility is less optimal. They're concerned with financial security. Too many "involuntary minorities" breed indiscriminately, without foresight or accountability. They know you and I will always foot the bill (welfare).

Tutsis were the educated and privilaged while the Hutus where the workforce and also military which is what started the clashing of heads. We've come to a point where we don't need to commit raw genocide, but perhaps whenever a group comes into its own, inevitably there will be weaker groups who perceive injustice and feel obliged to accommodate arrangements not of their choice. @arronnov I've read many journal articles and books on the Bantu expansion and how they basically overran or absorbed the Khoisan and Pygmy peoples, much like the Spaniard and Portuguese did to the natives in the New World (same ruthlessness, but with far less technology). But for me, the most telling thing was that I spoke to many Khoekhoe and San descendants themselves on my travels through Zimbabwe, Zambia and South Africa. They all confirm this.

But the fact is most immigrants preferred to be with their own kind, at least for the first couple of generations. So when they formed labor unions, the white owners employed other races as strikebreakers. Soon, the "minorities" (laborers) got wise and worked with each other on collective strikes and bargaining. Ah, the good old days when labor unions functioned mostly for the right reasons.

But on another note--have you ever read the late Nigerian anthropologist, John Ogbu? I love Ogbu. He was the one who brilliantly coined "involuntary" vs. "voluntary" minorities. Essentially we're both US minorities, but your ancestors were involuntary, mine were voluntary. Ogbu's thesis explains the attitudes, actions we see for various minority groups today.

So whites, who are less than 1/3 the population, are normally referred to as "haoles"-- foreigners, in Hawaiian --which is not necessarily pejorative, but sometimes can be. So many whites are shocked to suddenly live a daily life as a "minority" in their own country. Of course they are not completely disempowered, but a substantial edge is taken off their normal hegemonic assumption. It's all numbers.

But neither is mine. Again, Ogbu discusses oppositional vs. assimilative attitudes regarding involuntary vs. voluntary minorities. Asians wanted to come here, so racism is just a hurdle to overcome. We know we can succeed regardless. We definitely stay in touch with our motherlands, but love the U.S.

@arronnov People of color have less problems reproducing because they start at much younger age, do not plan their families. They also live shorter lives, so the generational cycle is shorter. Most whites delay parenting until well into their 30s, often their 40s, when fertility is less optimal. They're concerned with financial security. Too many "involuntary minorities" breed indiscriminately, without foresight or accountability. They know you and I will always foot the bill (welfare).

Even those who were formidable war machines in recent history, like Japan and Germany. So it's better (like Japan and Germany) to be indispensable to the global economy via your exports, knowledge resources, GDP, financial market presence, etc. and have countries like the U.S. protecting your back.

despicable... although i should add that when this was going on the congo was the private property of leopold, it wasn't a belgian colony yet. the congo free state was a pan-european private venture, most of leopold's troops where mercs from all over europe and other africans. after all the atrocities came to light (exposed to evict leopold so the other colonial powers could take over) it became the belgian congo and wasn't any more oppressive than any other colony. but still.. baaaad leo, baad!

Tutsis were the educated and privilaged while the Hutus where the workforce and also military which is what started the clashing of heads. When the Belgiums gave them back their independance, the hutu were in power and the rest is history. Sad thing is there are so many videos like this and you white people are still indenial.
