  • BRENT IN THE HOUSE!!! He was the best keyboardist/ singer for the Dead ever ever ever!

  • @acachubaca I love what Brent brought to the Dead and it's hard to disagree, but I'm partial to Pig Pen. Loved the blues that he sung. But the brent years were great years though. it's1 and 1a, and it hard to deceide which is which

  • @acachubaca wooooahhhhhhhhhh brents the mannn..but letss not forget about pigpen

  • Wish I Could Hit The Like Button More Than Once! I Love This Tune! RIP Jerry!

  • i am forever dead in the head =D

  • all I can say is, thank God little Jerry Garcia lost his RIGHT middle finger.

  • prick! boworl....Jerry`s playin` a D35. Wish I had it, i`ve got a 1970 D28 My buddy does a great version of this ,on a Gallagher

  • Is Bobby playing an Ovation? Eeesh!

  • My dad always had to tell me what exactly "Deep Elem" was every time we listened to this song. He said that deep elem was where the bordellos were back in the day. This song always makes me think about my dad who passed away in 2001. RIP dad.

  • Jerry on that Martin D-28...

  • Powder blue track suit- oriental rug- sweet, gentle jam... can you ask for more?

    Duco

  • I always had my $20 dollars ready. Gotta start hangin out in a lower rent neighborhood.

  • My favorite dead song of the moment, it gets stuck in my head everday, kids like me should all take a few lessons in the art of rock and roll

  • BAD ASSSSSS

  • Old and Sweet!...That's my mama:-))))

  • Deep Ellum Dallas Tx... Elm Street

  • There's not much better than acoustic Dead.

  • The title "Deep Elem" originates from Elm Street, which was the red-light district in Dallas.

  • Oh Sweet Mama, Daddy's Got Them Deep Elem Blues....

  • One more time a clip of one of the best bands all over the world ...

  • You mean this is old no we're old this is timeless Hehehe ........gwizard

  • Man, this will never get old!

  • God, but isn't 'acoustic dead' just The Best?

  • this stuff has refused to get old....

  • Right on time.

  • is jerry playing a martin?

  • @deadheaded71 yes...its a d-28 i do believe

  • @deadheaded71 Hmm. Good question. The 2-piece back (can see it in the sound hole) is like a D-28, but so far as I know, D-28s haven't had white purfling / binding. With the fingerboard's position dots on this axe, white purfling and binding usually means only a D-35--but D-35s have 3-piece backs. So I dunno.

  • This is one of my favorite versions of this song. :)

  • this deadhead has them deep elem blues

  • Very nice!!

    I love this song!

Ya gotta love the acoustic Dead! Reckoning is one of the best live albums that's ever been recorded!

  • this is awesome.what great improv

  • Yep. I think it's just the three chord structure.

  • Yes he is!

  • Is he playing this in E?

  • @MilesPittman

E blues. If you go J Darks tabs there is an accurate tab for this song.

  • @MilesPittman yes sir

  • Awesome! I have plans to record this one for sure! I love seeing Brent videos, especially acoustic GD w/ him. Thank you for sharing! :-)

  • Thanks! Beautiful!

  • excellent

  • this is my favorite era of the dead honestly, the acoustic set with the one drummer on congas, nice and soft and jazzy

  • once i knew a preacher preached the bible through and through. he went down to deep elem now his preaching days are threw...

  • Sweet! I live in Deep Ellum...

  • I reckon a scotch will go great with this

  • It does!

  • AMAZING

  • this is awsome

  • isn't deep elem in Dallas?

  • There is an area called Deep Ellum which is basically Elm Street which runs east/west through downtown Dallas

  • to qoute Johnny Carson " I did not know that"

  • Yep :)

  • Jerry's second solo is really cool.. a little different timing

  • Well I'd like to have the guitar tab for this one

  • luv it.

    ty Jerry.

    xxxx

  • I would like to talk about the Grateful Dead's music and what they started with someone please send me a direct message if you would like to do this please

  • Awesome song! My favorite of them. ^^

Someone know where to find bass tab for that? I just find piano and guitar ones (both are damm awesome btw).

And I want to play that piano parts with some nice improvisation's solo too! *-*

  • Great version of this old standard.

  • Sweet....Momma........:>)

  • what is phil playing...looks like jerry's axe

  • That's a bass.

  • It looks like Phil is playing a bass to me.

  • Yea just a bass that has the same body as Jerry's later guitars.

  • Gibson EB-3 bass Guiitar

  • good ol' grateful dead

  • Heaven.

  • Jerry lookin' good and soundin' fine !!!

  • what a great tune...my dorm-mate in college used to play this one, and before long i was seeing as many dead shows that i could manage...never got to hear this one live, but it sure gives me the chils, just like so many of their songs. I'll be seeing 'the dead' in NY in 2 weeks. If they can muster up just a fraction of their old magic, it is sure to be treat.

  • I've got this acoustic set on soundboard bootleg.. The Warfield (which is an awesome place to see the Dead!), even if the Warfield isn't there anymore. Glad they got some video of this..

  • the warfield still stands to this day...you might be mistaken with winterland . warfield was my first jgb shows...that place is like paradise = )

  • Thank you!

  • Fuck Yeah!

  • Grateful Dead is amazing!! Great song and performance they put on every time!! Thanks for posting this.

  • watch Phil MAGICIAN

  • What a great video. I've never seen this before. What a treat. Such a sick groove on this one.

  • "... have your ten dollars ready when the policeman comes"

  • @Mommak56 except now its a few hundred...

  • Not "De Bellum Blues"?

  • Elem is a corruption of Elm. It was the black red-light district in Dallas, Texas, way "deep" in downtown, now gentrified into restaurants, bars, nightclubs. This was written in the 30s. What fabulous guitar and mandolin.

  • What a long strange trip its been....nice clip bro

  • jhovah's favorite choir.

  • Love Billy's track suit!!

  • you know...ive had a rough couple of weeks...without going into details, and a little acoustic dead is never more needed =)

  • Awesome! Thanks, I needed that!!

  • martin HD 28

  • the Martin HD-28 does not have a bound fretboard

  • D-35 Martin???

  • I thought Jerry played an Alvarez Yairi?

  • if he did it would be a smart move high quality shit!

  • check out kreutzmann's glance at lesh @ 1:50 ~they knew how tight this was

  • agreed

  • What kind of guitar is Garcia playing?

  • @sfldd Jerry is playing a MartinD35. Only D35`s have white binding on the neck.

  • @munchkin440 you're right about bound fingerboards on d-35s, but they also have two center strips inside and i only see one in jerry's. maybe he put a bound board on his d-28

  • What a crater was left when Jerry checked out.

  • siccccccck video

  • JERRY, MAN!

  • Love hearing Jerry play a Martin but he loved his Takamine later

  • Yup Yup - I play this one probably 20 times a week! thanks, brother!

  • My favorite version of this song is from the Live from the Oregon State Penitentiary recording. It is the opening track. They play a shortened version on that one though. It's also acoustic, but a bit more uptempo. Great song.

  • Hell yeah-hippieJ-

took the words right out of my mouth!

  • Thats what its all about boys and girls.

    :)

  • Lovin' It... Can't get enough of my Good Ol' Grateful Dead :::: keep Rockin', Family. One Love to all the Heads. Keep the Faith :)
