@shaneomeezy Thats a Tak? I was wondering what he was banging on. This has been a fav of mine for a looong time. My first guitar is a Tak and I still ike banging this song out.
Sweetness! Loved those Radio City shows :) And all of 'em before and after! Who are the numnuts who actually took the time to watch this video and click dislike?? Silly f*ckin' wabbits....
where is this from? this is the NYC radio city and san fran acoustic run right? they got Brent hiding somewhere!??~ great ful for the jerry and the boys....
@acachubaca I love what Brent brought to the Dead and it's hard to disagree, but I'm partial to Pig Pen. Loved the blues that he sung. But the brent years were great years though. it's1 and 1a, and it hard to deceide which is which
@nastynacca yeah but going mainstream was never the point. they were the best at what they did, because they were the only ones who did what they did!!!!
My dad always had to tell me what exactly "Deep Elem" was every time we listened to this song. He said that deep elem was where the bordellos were back in the day. This song always makes me think about my dad who passed away in 2001. RIP dad.
well here in dallas where deep elum is we spell it with a u.... as we say it..deep eluuumm....... is a great place to see too :) ty vm for posting this
@deadheaded71 Hmm. Good question. The 2-piece back (can see it in the sound hole) is like a D-28, but so far as I know, D-28s haven't had white purfling / binding. With the fingerboard's position dots on this axe, white purfling and binding usually means only a D-35--but D-35s have 3-piece backs. So I dunno.
I would like to talk about the Grateful Dead's music and what they started with someone please send me a direct message if you would like to do this please
what a great tune...my dorm-mate in college used to play this one, and before long i was seeing as many dead shows that i could manage...never got to hear this one live, but it sure gives me the chils, just like so many of their songs. I'll be seeing 'the dead' in NY in 2 weeks. If they can muster up just a fraction of their old magic, it is sure to be treat.
I've got this acoustic set on soundboard bootleg.. The Warfield (which is an awesome place to see the Dead!), even if the Warfield isn't there anymore. Glad they got some video of this..
Elem is a corruption of Elm. It was the black red-light district in Dallas, Texas, way "deep" in downtown, now gentrified into restaurants, bars, nightclubs. This was written in the 30s. What fabulous guitar and mandolin.
@munchkin440 you're right about bound fingerboards on d-35s, but they also have two center strips inside and i only see one in jerry's. maybe he put a bound board on his d-28
My favorite version of this song is from the Live from the Oregon State Penitentiary recording. It is the opening track. They play a shortened version on that one though. It's also acoustic, but a bit more uptempo. Great song.
