Well there was wehrmacht and SS. Wehrmacht soldiers were the basic of german or nazi army whatever you call it. They were regular soldiers of that army. Name of the game was if you denied to fight you were shot becoase of betraying motherland or something like that. SS soldiers were truly frightened becoase of their fanaticism. They were soldiers who carry the evil name of the nazi army. it is simply wrong to think that every man in nazi army was bad person. Thay didnt have a freedom to choice.
They thought they could hold off the allies or take the coastal area back. America in their point of view was weak. They were more worried about the Russians. It would be cool to have a movie of D-Day from the German's point of view, but not the Nazis.

My great-uncle was a rifleman in the 1st Infantry Division. He came ashore in Fox sector of Omaha, and fought until the war ended. Till the day he died he said that only God's Grace kept him alive on the morning of June 6th '44.
Can you imagine running out of the LCVP and seeing half of the 30 men in it with you dead before you even get to the end of the ramp? And then the water you fall into is already red with blood of kids like you. How can you keep going forward? God bless them all.

this is by far my favorite movie speilberg did an amazing job with this i like how realistic the war scenes very well done and how he made it. If you watch you'll notice he doesn't have music for the battle scenes so for that moment u forget your watching a movie

This is an excellent Saving Private Ryan music video. Beautifully cut and the only song that I think could have a hope for matching or exceeding this song in suiting the movie is Unknown Soldier by Breaking Benjamin. Five stars, nice job.
i agree "Unknown Soldier" would be another great song but "Longest Day" by iron Maiden is another one that works really well with this movie because it talks about the events of the movie

It's really quite devastating about what happened on the Omaha section on Normandy Beach; ships weren't lined up well to make a proper defence line and the planes didn't cover them they way they were supposed to. I think out of all the sections of the beaches of Normandy (if you don't know them, it's Juno with Cdn. Forces, Sword and Gold with British Forces, Utah and Omaha with American Forces), the soldiers on Omaha were struck by the German Wehrmacht the hardest.
I saw something on rhe box about how their tanks (Omaha) all sank - they could float with curtains arount them but the tide was strong and sent them down shore a bit and when they turned side on to get back the curtains were breached and they sank. They made it ashore on other beaches and provided cover.

look, i appreciate the bravery of the soldiers, i am not trying to be disrespectful, i understand how deep this topic is,nthe death toll of the first wave at d day was shocking and unacceptable, but the simple fact is that it was russia that conquered berlin. sure maybe d day distracted the germans a bit, but the russian advance had already started and probably could not be stopped.

Don't EVER say it was just Russia, that is purely pathetic. If it was just Russia they would have been minced because Germany was well protected believe it or not.
D-Day was more than a distraction is was the beggining of the end, let's say that didn't happen, Russia would have lost easily because the Germans were extremely tactical, i hate the Nazis but its the truth.

the tragic thing about d day is that it was a waste of life, the russians had allready stopped the german advance and were pushing them back to berlin. the russians won the war. all d day achieved was moving the iron curtain further east

It's really quite devastating about what happened on the Omaha section on Normandy Beach; ships weren't lined up well to make a proper defence line and the planes didn't cover them they way they were supposed to. I think out of all the sections of the beaches of Normandy (if you don't know them, it's Juno with Cdn. Forces, Sword and Gold with British Forces, Utah and Omaha with American Forces), the soldiers on Omaha were struck by the German Wehrmacht the hardest.

I saw something on rhe box about how their tanks (Omaha) all sank - they could float with curtains arount them but the tide was strong and sent them down shore a bit and when they turned side on to get back the curtains were breached and they sank. They made it ashore on other beaches and provided cover.

i agree with you partially. america didnt want to get involved with the war and remain at peace with everyone while providing weapons for allies. as soon as they were attacked by the japanese, the sooner the got involved. and as soon as america joined, the sooner the war was over.

yer i respect what America did do and they helped.. put the war to the end. Without them we would hav lost a lot more soldiers but all the video games and such its america did dis america did dat. But other countries like AUSTRALIA and united kingdom joined to help other countries and you dont see them in video games. i havent seen 1 game devoted to the aussies
