This is pure Hustle . . . free flowing and beautiful to watch.
Im-posters who don't know the difference between Hustle and Salsa . . . LOL, we're laughing at your posts. Go and spend some time learning from the pros, and you'll appreciate dancing, instead of criticizing. Have fun on the dance floor.
Holy shit... what the heck was that... Surely not the Hustle I danced.... And I used to ge to thye top 10 DISCO BARS in the 70's... So if I'm wrong please someone update me to when the HUSTLE came out & to what friggin song ! PLEASE..... That to me, if I were a JUGE on AMERCAN IDOL, I would of X you out right of the bat ! SORRY !
The Hustle most of you are looking for can be found on YT channel of itanio. As seen in SNF. The Hustle is actually a mish mash of several styles and moves, there's The Harlem Hustle, the boop boop a hustle, tandori hustle, spanish hustle, and the list goes on. I however will always do that cheesy line dance version because I think it rocks because you can learn it in 5 minutes, no tedious classes.
This is beautiful and amazing partner Hustle, just the way it should be - traveling, open and flowing. I dance and teach Hustle here in California, and as a result dance/teach both parts - leader and follower. Tybolt (did I spell that right?) is one of my favorite male Hustle dancers to watch and emulate. A pleasure to watch.
Yep this is The Hustle. Sadly, my generation learned it by doing line dancing. So when I hear "The Hustle" I think of us clappin and stepping :( I know depressing. But over all, yall did great and plus Im Hosting a 70s sleepover party. To bad we cant learn this in less than a night :) Ill just stick to line dancing and just learn it the right way later ^^. Kudos to the dancers on the video! ^^
This is the way I dance the hustle, and have been doing it the same way for 34 years. As a matter of fact, I was doing the Hustle (by the way, there is only one true hustle, the NY Hustle) last July 2010 at Bayside in Miami, guess what, they clapped and gave me and my wife a standing ovation, and this was in the outside dancing area. OUCH, that hurts!!!!
Yep, very nice example of The Hustle as it was done from 1976 to .... well now! I think it was right around 1975 that it had a slightly different count. I started Hustling right around that time in NYC. By the time 1978 arrived I was competing in dance contests all around the tri-state area..... and there were plenty competitions.... I specifically remember competing in Hugh Heffners Playboy Club Contest on 59th and 5th ave. fantastic.

@avp0713 There was also the Latin Hustle that had a count of 5 (1+2+3,4+5). Yes, this is a good demonstration of the hustle, true to form. It is certainly not that god awful hustle that John Travolta popularized. In New York we were doing the hustle that is shown here. Perhaps in the outer boroughs they were doing a bastardization.
Yes, this real NY style hustle. I ought to know because I together with 2 others helped to invent NY style hustle back in 1970. It went through several changes and became a 3 count dance done to 4/4 timing in 1972. Most of the first generation hustle dancers sre not around anymore. While I no longer live in the Big Apple and have also stopped competing, I still teach the dance to my students. The couple in the video are quite good. They display good connections
Well, don't know which track that might be...LOL :)...all I can tell you is what was taught me and my experiences. It's an era and lifestyle that can never be duplicated, not even by Hollywood...and to me it was wonderful and I'm happy I was fortunate enough to have lived it.
I will tell you this...many dancers almost seemed to subtly be saying "we're Rock and Marilyn (the clothes were soooo early 50's), and we can dance like Fred and Ginger".
Hi, you are on the right track. The Hustle has changed a bit to fit the throughout the years. The dance is on count of &1,2,3. It works with all types of music. Take a look at IHSC, Disco America, World Hustle, NY Hustle Congress and the mother of these hustle events was Hustle USA which started in 1995 to bring back the dance throughout the country. One day hustle will be recognized.
I started going to discos in 1974. The way we did the hustle (partner style) was the lead takes four steps forward and his partner 3 steps back. Then of course reverse with the lead stepping back 3 and partner 4, then go into the turns and twists. There was a freestyle Hustle, too.
I never heard of East Coast, West Coast like you hear dance instructors talk about today. There was the New York Hustle, the San Francisco Hustle, the Latin Hustle, Chicago Bus Stop and I guess a few others.
Wake up and smell the dance. THIS IS THE HUSTLE. Not the era, not the line dance (which was incorrectly named), The hustle is a PARTNER DANCE. This dance is versatile and can be danced to any type of music. It is not about the disco. Take some lessons and then come back and tell us differently.
Sorry, bethdancer...the Hustle was a dance whose movements followed the beat. Some of the movements were unique to that genre and era, but not all. I've never seen any so called experts do the hustle anywhere near resembling the way we danced in the discos in the mid 70's. (Please don't use SNF as a reference...the movie was a joke to us real disco babies.)
And there was indeed a freestyle Hustle, also with a count of 3 and 4.
Actually, it was a very nice Hustle. Which is thank god entirely different from that god awful "line dance" everyone used to do to that god awful song "Do the Hustle" with all of the ridiculous pointing and what not. THIS IS hustle true to form.
ive never seen this kind of hustle O_O its quite beautiful actually!
is this from ballroom dance? does ballroom have a separate version of the hustle than the 70's club-dancing version?
