  • Beautiful plane. Looks like it is going Mach 1 just sitting there.

  • The only real problem with the B58 is that it really was only useful for dropping Nuclear Weapons. It wasn't big enough to deliver a high enough conventional payload to make it worth the cost of operation (which was the main reason it was never retrofitted to carry conventional ordinance).

  • great choice of music. "breathe" is sweet.

  • I would love to see this plane flying again with todays technology incorperated to build it would make a great addition to to the US Airforce. nice design nice line smooth and flowing with grace.

  • Another day, Just breathe...

  • Such a beauty, amazing

  • The forgotten bomber......

  • I wonder--could the B58 hit Mach 2 while carrying the pod? Or is that Mach 2 top speed only in the clean--allowing a speedy getaway? I wonder how long it could sustain that speed? My father was a fuel systems mechanic in the USAF when this bird was operational. He said they were a maintenance nightmare.

  • Everyday I'm hustelin,,,,

  • Only bomber to make the fighter jocks drool. What a bird

  • @buckmulligan2010 - Jimmy Stewart - the actor - was also Jimmy Stewart - the AFRES Major General - Two Stars - and he earned them - 20 combat missions over Germany in B-24s, plus one B-52 mission over Viet Nam - according to what I've found , he never qualified in the B-58, although he had B-58 associate units under his command in the Reserve - so he probably had familiarization flights.

  • 4:24 Jimmy Stewart?

  • I was very proud to be part of the 43rd Bomb Wing out of Carswell AFB in Ft Worth, Tx. and there I realized what a great aircraft the B-58 really was. Some of the best years of my life. The 60's

  • love the plane, hate the fuel tank

  • The B-58 Hustlers was one of my favorite models as a boy. Sleek, sexy, beautiful, and absolutely deadly. I lived about 80 miles north of Little Rock AFB, one of the two air force bases at the time that was home to the B58 Hustler. Sonic booms were common occurences, many of which really rattled the windows and made you think they might get blown out someday. This aircraft really pushed the performance envelope and was ahead of its time. Nothing else like it at the time, truly incredible!

  • Coolest and most beautiful *bomber* ever to take wing: B 58

Coolest and most beautiful *fighter* to take wing: MiG 29

  • This was designed, manufactured, and operational back in the day when the U.S.A. really was the U.S.A. Nothing else on earth could touch us.

  • When I was a kid growing up in Kansas City, about '61-'62 timeframe, these things would fly out of somewhere, maybe Offut, and conduct bomding runs at high altitude and at supersonic speed. One day in July '61, me and my neighbor were shooting baskets at the school yard and one flew right over our head. The sonic boom scared the livin' sh*t out of us. For a minute, we didn't know what had happened. My dad told us we would have been vaporized. He made nuclear weapons. Good video.

  • You can see the ancestry down to the B1B now. There are some similarities.

  • I believe Gen. Stewart appearing in this film is actually LTG James T. Stewart, USAF, who served in the 1960s with the Air Research & Development Command (later Air Force Systems Command) developing nuclear weapons delivery systems capabilities.

  • @buckmulligan2010 It's really Jimmy Stewart the actor. He did a film for the Air Force about the B-58. You can find the film on YouTube with this scene of him exiting the aircraft. It's basically a review of the aircraft with Stewart sitting in a living room type of environment talking about various aspects of the aircraft such as capability, construction, basing, etc.. Whether or not Stewart actually flew the plane I have no idea. He was a pilot in the Air Force reserves though.

  • @Mainsail76 BG, DFC, CMH* and few other bits of salad, yeah he flew a little for the AAF and the USAF.

*note: I could be misremembering the CMH part.

  • From Sept.66-Jan-70 I was proud to be serving in the 305 th. fms,305B.W.2nd.AF SAC.Grissom AFB, Peru,IN. I don't think I can put into words the PRIDE we had working on our Hustlers, They were truly stunning air craft, they were a bitch to work on, at times.. But standing 20 yards away when 4- J-79 engs. hit afterburners

at night on a mito (minimal interval take off- 15 sec. apart ) is something I'll take to my grave with me .. Its been 41 years and I still smile when I think about it...

  • Majestic Horror, simply that, this represents a Majestic Horror,....a level of humanity acheived, perhaps insanity. A level of desrtuction never thougt of before except in the prophecies,...We won't use it if you don't make us use it!.....But we could use it without your approval, but we won't,that is our power!...leave us be.

  • Nice vid and a great aircraft. Love the era and how aviation evolved in the 50's and 60's. Had the pleasure to stand next to the Pima Hustler in Tucson 3 months ago, could not help but wonder about its history, what its seen, where its been over the years since.

  • An awesome bomber for its time, too bad it became obsolete so soon. One of my favorites..ahh yes, the good old days..TOO much technology, and this will destroy us.

  • I have heard that the bomb-like aparatus below the fuselage was where most of the electronics were placed.

  • The B-58 had major problem with engines. A flame out on any engine at super sonic flight caused the plane to yaw then brake up because of stress! FACT

  • That might have been brig. General James Stewart, Hollywood, California. jim Stewerat was a gGen . in The US Air Force, and it looks like him.

  • Fuck!....i still think the old 707s were sweet, ill I see this Bitch, and then I just want cry,....

  • There is something very evocative about this video. The music seems to tumble out of the past and it is attractively matched to the faded colours of the film- again evoking something past and never to be recaptured. The close-ups of the viewer shots tell us where to look. And the plane itself is so emblematic of the sixties: sleek, steel, a sports car of the skies. Wonderful aesthetics.

  • This is a beautiful bird, and the music adds to that era. Great show. Great bird.

  • If only the engine noise was included...

  • What always amazes me when I look at planes like this is think what people were DRIVING at the time! The technology gap was HUGE. It must have been so amazing to the average person to see one of these go overhead.

  • What a beautiful aircraft.....

  • Absolutely beautiful, classic airplane that still looks like a million bucks fifty years later. Must have been a wonder to behold when it took flight and tore ass across the sky! Thanks for posting.

  • Saw one of these at the very first Mildenhall, U.K. air show in 1969, the Yanks had just moved into the base, absolutely bloody awesome aircraft, still looks fantastic 40 years later, great American bomber.

  • I am kind of an expert on this plane, since when I was a kid in the early 70's I built a model of it and did NOT, I repeat, NOT, get glue on the canopy.

  • Bad Bitch Right There

  • Not only was this aircraft fighter-like in appearance, it allegedly had maneuverability more like a fighter than a bomber.

Anybody know what g-load it was stressed for?

  • love the music, and i am a pilot, interesting to see Telepopmusik paired with the B-58, a great combo!

  • Hustler is a beautiful plane. I've seen one rather by chance at Chanute Air Museum in Illinois, about 2hrs south of Chicago. Was just driving by on I-57, saw a sign for an aviation museum and decided to stop by. As far as I could tell the museum itself is barely getting by (it's at Chanute AFB closed nearly 20 yrs ago) . But the plane looked magnificent. Anyway, if you're in Chicagoland (and have a car :) and want to see a B-58 Hustler, this is the place. And they can use some more patronage..

  • Is the load underneath fuel? i remember these at Wright Patterson!!

  • what altitude did this plane operate at ?

  • bomb ass song.. bomb ass plane

  • All it needed was a pair of canards and it would be a maneuvrable bomber....

  • @Spadadiforza

Canards are for stability or a lift aid.

  • @Ninox37

Lift Aid = maneuverability...maneuverability is a change in lift orientation. The most maneuverable aircraft have

    canards and or thrust vectoring.

  • a very ellegant, and effective bomber. Broke so many speed records. This would be a great aircraft if still in service today. Not many countries can hit a mach 3 moving target.

  • @wranglerkowboy1 Which would be great, except for the fact that the B-58 was a mach 2 bomber, NOT a mach 3 bomber...

  • I am very much an airplane 'nut' but what is the sound track???

  • Best SAC Delta Bomber ever built

  • The B-58, the XB-70 and the F-104. Just beautiful.

  • Such a beautiful futuristic modern art. Thank goodness I never got rid of that unopened Monogram 1/48 scale model kit. I should try my hand at creating that multi paneled aluminium work now that I have an airbrush.

  • @ph11p3540 Fine scale modeler had a B-58 on its cover about 4-5 yrs ago. Huge model done by a lady that I think has passed since then. Beautiful aluminum work. See if you can still look it up.

  • The man who designed this plane, Robert Widmer, just passed away yesterday. He designed it on his own time, when his boss told him to stick to his assigned job. He went on to lead the design teams for the F-111 and F-16. He made his career designing aircraft that he knew the military would need, even before they asked for it.

  • I wonder what she would do with the two outer engines dropped and the inner two replaced by the ones in the F-22? Less drag and more thrust.

  • Gawd... she was gorgeous.

  • Voilà un appareil que j'adorais et qui avait beaucoup impressionné lors de sa venue au Bourget.

  • One of the most elegant aircraft ever to take to the air.

  • @barryallard Couldn't say it better. We had this really old book of different USAF bombers in my elem school library. The "newest" bomber in the book was a B-52 I think. That book intro'd me the B-58 at the ripe old age of 7. I maintain it's one of the finest looking aircraft to ever grace the skies.

  • @barryallard very pleasing to the eye for sure.

  • I would like to invite you all to STFU with your pointless bickering and just enjoy this video. Especially you ultra-nationalists with a chip on your shoulder.

  • @damaged01 DILDOCK the act of docking the dildo in ur hole

  • yep, pretty cool seeing actor Jimmy Stewart flying on of the best planes ever built. impressive.

  • What is this song for this video???

  • As a boy I was always very proud that this aircraft was protecting our country. Even though it occasionally startled us when "booming" our house and windows. It wasn't till I became a young adult that I understood it's medium range mission and purpose..

  • I spent many days plucking burrs off the honeycomb panels at the GENERAL DYNAMICS plant in Fort Worth, Texas. As a Hand Finisher and Fabricator II, I worked on several aluminum components for the F-111. I hope they all worked as expected. It was a beautiful and serious aircraft.

  • One of my favourite planes.

  • My all time favorite aircraft... she was as beautiful as she powerful.....and as a surviving child of the cold war I am grateful.

  • @toro199999 American Technology. Your Scientists are belong to us! You should have won the war Krout Dog.

  • The B-58 had a reputation for being a "gas guzzler" thus resulting in its early retirement.

  • @isuckaman Had a reputation all right. Bad Ass to the bone

  • It was deadly, tho'--for the pilots who flew her!

  • "another day..just believe..that you wont see another day cause bombers will knock your country, home and beloved people..A.W.A.Y !!"..a beautiful plane with an abomination task..to deliver nuclear and H bombs.

  • thank you Dr. Alexander Lippisch for such beautiful machines..german technology FTW !!

  • @toro199999 Fuck you. This is American technology, germany had nothing to do with this.

  • @ThunderAppeal

Like it or not, Alexander Lippisch was responsible for a lot of the concepts behind delta wings etc. everything built since has used these underlying *German* principles unfortunately.....

Still, as we used to say as kids in the UK - 2 world wars and one world cup... :)

  • @powermann99 American technology and engineering is responsible for the B58 Hustler, the krauts had nothing to do with this. You see the American flag on that airplane? Thats all the proof you need.

Beyond that, no one gives a shit what stupid fucking children like you said in the UK or anywhere else, go back to you cuntry. No one will miss you here, I promise.

  • @ThunderAppeal

    Hi Thunderappeal,

I was living in the UK as a kid because my dad was in the USAF flying B-52s out of RAF Lakenheath. So I'm just as American as you and just as qualified to make comments as you are about US planes :)

Also - you should get a sense of humor, no use croaking from hypertension...you obviously missed the irony in my comment :)

    Hugs and kisses

    Powermann xxxxx

  • @ThunderAppeal A flag painted on something is proof of nothing. Notice the B-58's delta wing? "The concept of the delta wing had been invented by Dr. Alexander Lippisch of Germany in the 1930s" (Goebel, 2001). More from the same source: "One important design feature was soon added in the form of "area ruling", a concept devised by engineer Richard Whitcomb..." Whitcomb was from Illinois, Lippisch from Munich. Ideas don't come out of a vaccuum, and no country has a monopoly on them.

  • @imcustomized It was also *MADE IN AMERICA*, and you've contradicted yourself you stupid egyptian nazi asshole. No country has a monopoly on ideas you asshole, you just said so yourself, so there was no fucking nazi kraut scumbag hand in making this airplane. No one can 'invent' a wing design, they can only be discovered you moron. An American company made the B58 this airplane was designed, engineered and made IN AMERICA.

  • @ThunderAppeal You're obviously insane, but could you summon up enough lucidity to say exactly where and how I contradicted myself? No, on second thoughts, don't bother. Kicking your diseased brain around on YouTube just isn't worth my time.

  • @imcustomized Youre not an American, no one gives a shit what you say or think.

  • One of my top 10 aircrafts of all time.

  • Télépopmusik - 'Breathe'. guys... read the description. PLEASE!

  • what is the name of the song?

  • Was that Jimmy Stewart flying?!

  • @ThunderAppeal Sure was, BGen. James Stewart.

  • @Velocinox Thats amazing, I'm sure nothing Gen Stewart saw in the years after the Hustler had seemed unusual to him considering the amount of advanced technology that the B-58 had, even when compared to this day.

  • Yeah, if we had to use them you and me would not even be here...think about it. Numb skull Washington keeps accelerating spending as the empire keeps all cold war bases open and the arms dealers busy enuff, something will happen soon enuff for them to say told you so. In the mean time keeps harping trying to get inside tha moronic publics head that its a national security issue.. Oh great looking design aircraft. how many billions spent and tha same for the SR-71.

  • Glad we had them. Happier we didn't have to use them.

  • @engaurd Check F-18 SH's belly pod. :)

  • Pause the video at 4:24 and you will read on the pilot's helmet BRIG GEN STEWART. watch him climb out & closely observe his posture, stance, walk and physical build. That is indeed Jimmy Stewart.

  • Delta Dagger, Delta Dart and B-58...Wonderful Convair delta wing configuration projects I think the Convair engeneers, designers and other minds was amazing

  • What an awesome video.

  • FAB machine. Looks so wonderful. Just like Avro Vulcan and Handley Page Victor.

  • She is the sweetest B ever made.

  • If I read some other articles correctly, Jimmy Stewart did fly the B-58. So I am thinking that he really did pilot this aircraft. Truly amazing plane and man.

  • dear santa!! i will not be like other geek on youtube asking you for one of these. i'm gonna ask u to not let one of these fly over my house in a war

  • @650kntflyby: Although it was designed with many fighter-like features, a fully-loaded (163,000lb) B-58 had a maximum G limit of 2.0g's. At a combat weight of 100, 000lbs, the airframe could withstand 3g's, substantially less than most fighter aircraft (B-58/Miller).

  • What do you know --- that was actor / AF pilot (General) Jimmy Stewart stepping out of that B-58 in the last scene!

  • @650kntflyby No it was to big to be flown like a fighter. They were built for straight line speed and tended to try to outrun opposing fighters.

  • i really like this video and the music with it .. B58 is/was a remarkable aircraft

  • Why put such a pussy gay song behind a video of one one of the most awesome pieces of flying heavy metal ever built?

  • @laiosto

Because there's something beautiful about this machine , and the experience of flying that "let the bodies hit the floor" or whatever nu-metal shit you like doesn't quite encompass. SonicBomb makes wonderful videos with wonderful and appropriate music for the subject matter.

  • @necroticism Fuck you arse bandit. What makes you think I like Nu-Metal? The song on this video is more suited to Brokeback mountain.Deep Purple's Highway Star,or Speed King,or even Van Halen's Panama would kick arse. You would prefer Enya,or Ladyboy GagGag maybe?

  • @laiosto

Look at my screename...I like Death Metal and Grindcore....

There's just something about the elegance of flight that a balls out rock and roll song can't encompass. Other types of music are more appropriate....

  • Remember what they called the Hustler in the movie "Fail Safe"...Vindicator...Was it ever...But a VERY scary flick...

  • This is the first USAF fighter jet that I see with delta wings. F14 maybe? I thought it was the preferred technology for English and French. Beautiful plane! Unlike the huge spare tank of fuel.

  • @helcio1960

That was the first Delta Bomber of the US, capable to fly faster than sound close to mach 2 (mach 1.85 exactly).

High accident counts and armed with a nuclear bomb combined with a fuel tank. One of the most beautiful planes.

The huge spare tank contains the bomb :) ...

  • @dabarbequeman But also fuel....

  • @dabarbequeman: It also carried four Mk 43 nukes tucked under the wing roots, outboard of the mission pod. The B-58 routinely flew at 2.0Mach (its design speed), with the MB-1 pod in place.

  • @helcio1960 This was the first delta wing bomber, it is way to big to be a fighter. The first operational US fighter that was delta wing was the Convair F-102 Delta Dagger.

The large pod is not just fuel, but sensors and the weapon if carried.

  • @Toddinfantry: Interestingly, the (Canadian) Avro CF-105 (that never reached operational status) was a big fighter (interceptor) that nearly matched the B-58's size. It's wingspan was only 6' less than the Hustler, and overall length was 19' less. Wing areas of 1225ft and 1542', respectively. In terms of MTOW, however, there was no comparison..the 58 out-grossed the Arrow by ~100,000lbs.

  • Ah! So the pod did contain a nuclear weapon. And that was the primary purpose for it's design, obviously to drop The Bomb and get out of there fast, right? I always thought so, even as a kid. I always loved that plane and it's always been a mystery to me.

  • @49kasey

Not only to get fast out, the purpose was to enter the russian territory and outrun all of their air defense with speed.

No russian fighter plane of this time was capable to reach the speed of this bomber the first was the MIG 21. But the fuel consumption was awesome :)

  • I like the b-58 and watch this for the music; great video.

  • There was a time when elegance and brute force ruled the day. Magnificent.

  • Don't know if anyone's pointed it out -- but yes, that IS Oscar winning actor Jimmy Stewart climbing out of the pilot's seat in the final frames -- wearing the helmet reading "Brig. Gen. Stewart." He flew bombers in WWII and left the Air Force Reserve as a One-Star.

  • Thanks, and thank God for YouTube. Hats off to the guys who had the ability to crew these planes.

  • That was actor Jimmy Stewart - a Brig Gen in the USAF and former USAAF bomber pilot in WW2.

  • totally inappropiate music

  • @NOTABOOS not really... i think it goes great with the video. futuristic yet with a nostalgic feel

  • @NOTABOOS Very appropriate music.

  • @Lrdvltr I second that!!

  • Lovely lines, she looks like she is doing Mach 2 standing still, Sleek and Sexy!

  • Lovely lines, she looks like she is doing Mach 2 standing still.

  • I think another big problem with this plane was the up ejection of the 3 crew

members. Heard the the tail would kill the real crew member on ejection because

the plane was so fast. I like the music.

  • @Psyche777able The B-58 had ejection seats that were encased in a "clamshell" type shield that allowed for ejection at up to 70,000ft and Mach 2 speeds. This capsule also came with oxygen for the ride down. Very novel for its day and was also used on the XB-70.

  • @Toddinfantry: Only the B-58A's did. The TB-58's had conventional ejection seats.

  • @raynus1 Thanks for the correction.

  • when did that plane fly?

  • I do not think that the soviets were very comfortable with this aircraft.

  • They should restore that one out in Tucson Arizona, make it airworthy again. This is one bomber that should fly again.

  • I hate to admit it , but I think I am getting an erection. LOL

  • Anything called the Hustler pretty much means your going to have a bad day.

  • I was there, BHAFB in May of 64-Dec 65. 45th MMS... Luved the Hustler...

  • I fell in love with this plane years ago. Concorde got alot of its ideas from the Hustler. Both beautiful aircraft. Does anyone admire the Avro Vulcan used by the RAF? One used to fly over our school Nearly every day in Harrogate North Yorkshire, England when i was a teenager. Fabulous sound from the four RR Olympus engines.

  • You gotta love this great mach 2 bombers of yesteryear. Maybe they should

get rid of the B52,and go with this one again. Love the music, and plane.

  • You gotta love this great mach 2 bombers of yesteryear. Maybe they should

get rid of the B52,and go with this one again. Love the music, and plane.

  • @Psyche777able

Unfortunately this plane had a very high crash ratio and the payload was too low.

The B52 is more "economical" :) higher payload and subsonic needs less fuel.

The B1B was the last attemp to get supersonic bombers but nothing compare to the style of this plane :) I love it ... the other beauty is the Avro Vulcan, check it out here on Youtube. The XH558 Avro Vulcan on an airshow in GB

  • I wonder what kind of performance could have been obtained from this design with the F119 turbofans used in the F-22 instead of J79s? 18K lbs thrust vs 35K lb thrust (both w/ reheat)? I'm sure airframe limitations would come in to play though.

  • ++1 as expected from sonic

  • My J-57 god I love the motor..

  • see your not alone.. here

  • funny how hustler vids always come with sweet music when other planes are usually treated with lame sound!

but it's normal, just like the book; it's a seducer's plane

  • Nice video. Than you. You know,...Sometimes I dream I'm making love to a 'Hustler'...bb

  • My Dad said after Mach 1, you really can't "feel" your going any faster. Mach 2+ for example. Anyone agree, disagree?

  • song is

    breath- by-telepopmusik-album-Genetic World

  • wow beautifull music with a really good video

  • wow beautifull music with a really good video .....whats the song called anyway?

  • Llorca!

  • is that a large fuel tank underneath middle? or is that a nuclear bomb?

  • @7robig: That was the "weapons pod." In order to keep the fuselage slim and to comply with the "area rule" for supersonic flight, the nuclear bomb(s) were placed in a seperate enclosure. There were fuel tanks in the pod as well, so to answer your question: Both!

  • cool. great info from you Gruntol5!

    :-)

  • It was actually a bit more complicated than that. They wanted the plane to be rather small so it would be small on radar. Not exactly all that logical in truth. They felt it would be better if the plane was small and carried it's weapons in a streamlined pod.

The pod actually increases drag, the fuselage is simply over-area ruled to compensate for it partially with the aircraft also being overpowered to compensate

  • Technically it's a bit of both. It's a streamlined pod that carries fuel as well as a nuclear bomb inside it.

  • @CVKent317 lol that just sounds funny!

  • Brig Gen Jimmy Stewart

  • @IC2720: Neddy Seagoon - (makes as much sense.)

  • Look at who is getting out of the plane at the very end of the video

  • @IC2720 : Got it! I wondered how you could recognize anyone wearing that flying gear, but I noticed later that it's written on his bone-dome. B-58 and Jimmy Stewart - two great icons from the past.

  • When I first saw the video, I wondered if it was THE Jimmy Stewart. But take a look at the profile silouete after he gets out of the plane. Long lanky........ yep, that's him. Your right, two great icons.

  • sexiest plane ever!

  • Excellant - only aircraft lovers can enjoy!! thanks for sharing!!

  • The music reminded me of the time of WILD PARTY, and the B-58 is one sexy MILF !!! hahaha!

  • What a beautiful machine.
