@iamrobbyah Was there in 2004 :) Got to interview/meet Mr. Amemiya and had him sign a model of his JGTC FD for my son--still have it in my office. JGTC is my favorite race series, really need it more here in the US.

Wow that engine sound reminds me of the 767b. Despite the RX8 apparently being a cracking number I still lament the cease of RX7 production, absolute classics from the moment they left the production line. I don't remember a time I walked past one without taking a mental photograph!

@ghostdance7 RE Amemiya's RX-7 uses a 20B rotary like the 787B did. That's why they sound so alike.

As for the RX8, well, I like it, but it simply isn't in the same league. Not only isn't it as powerful, but the chassis aren't quite a match for it's predecessor neither.

actually...super gt cars must retain a factory chassis, but they can be spot welded and must use a steel roll cage

JGTC/Super GT cars are silhouette racers (purpose built racing chassis with street car bodies) just like Aussie Supercars. Both classes are not built on the street cars themselves, so this is no more Mazda than a V8 supercar is a Ford or a Holden. Also, the Mazda in this video is a GT300 car with roughly 300hp, so it would probably be beaten by a V8 Supercar, which has over double the HP.

haha its funny because im not sure if you saw but they went through whats common and independent on the 2, only the engine and bodywork lol! floorpan gearbox exhaust suspension rollcage etc all common to both holden and ford, they showed it on bathurst this year

It would be interesting to see a GT300 car against the V8SC's. I think depending on the track it could go either way. The 12at sportssedan vs the EL(iirc) wasn't a very good match up. The v8 was down on power and driving ability- the lap times were well off what a good v8SC can do around Wakefied.

Wayne Gardner apparently holds the unofficial lap record at QR in a GT500 Supra (about 8 sec quicker than v8sc...

lol yes that would be most interesting to see. Which, though, would you think would win - a V8SC Commodore or a GT300 RX-7? Honestly, I'd pick the RX-7 since it's a lot lighter and therefore easier to throw around corners.

no comptetition the gt300 rx7 for sure, its lighter, handles a hell of alot better and has better aerodynamics, though the gt300 has about half the horsepower.

@AceWombatZero I'd say the RX-7 would walk all over the Commodore. That's why they don't let them race at Bathurst along with all the other Japanese cars like the Supra / Skyline etc..
