It was a great band and their first album is a classic. I have listened to a LOT of those bands and this (NUISANCE) is one of those albums I never get tired of hearing. I was happy to see that it was an article of them in the last MOJO CLASSIC magazine :-)
hate to disagree with you lads, but actually menswear were pretty good live. i loved the album (still do) but was very unsure of how the live show would be. they were very energetic, to the point, really really good.... i think there only mistake was listening to alot of music critics like yourselves who wanted them to change for your personal tastes for their second album. they should have stayed with what got them to the top (trying to sound hard and american didn't work for blur either...).
i accidentally gave you a thumbs down, i meant to give you a thumbs up. this band is definitely the worst one i've heard from around this period, even dodgy were better than this bag of crap
Not the best band by any stretch. Made famous for getting signed before they had actually played a gig....singer had several nervous breakdowns from memory. Great fashion sense it has to be said!
You said that you used to go to Tiswas all the time, I probably have seen you there, at Coney Island not many people went.....I used to go with my brother, girlfriend and friends all the time, I believe it was on Wednesdays.... we were the only latino kids there. lol
so you were at that show also..i thought they were really good that night. i got to dj before the band played. saw them the next night at tramps and they were just as good.
did you also hang out at coney island high when tiswas (nic marc) was spinning there? i used to hang with him when i was nyc at the time (i used to do the video show on public access)
do you still go to nick's nights at the annex? i haven't talked to he or justine d. in ages. i try to get over to see him when i come up for cmj but you know how that goes. we don't have anything close to brit pop or a british music nite here in tampa so there you go. how's the nite life in nyc these days?
yeah..things change. i'm sure nic's giving his best effort. i guess if you really look at it, there's not alot coming out of the u.k. that stands out these days outside of The Whip, artic monkeys, friendly fires, dirty fuzz and a few others (as far as indie rock goes in my opnion). and although i'm a huge Oasis fan, outside of the single, i find the new album just as boring as the last their last 3. shame...
Ba ba-ba BAAAA!

Last Shadow Puppets ripped it off lately. (And some of Shed 7 and The Auteurs stuff, of course).
heppolo 2 years ago
Agreed with nickdc1 this is definitely a Shed Seven effort, and Daydreamer was a bit of a Blur effort.
Having said that, they aren't that bad.

This song is turd. Some of their other tunes were ok, can't believe they released this as a single though. Mind-boggling decision really.
Violins were a bad idea too, "Look at us, we have a string quartet, we are a serious band, honest"

God, the 90s were self-indugent shit.

Menswear most definitely do not represent the 90s any more than The Hoosiers (*shudder*) represent this decade.

Well, its not the same anymore, but the effort is appreciated...yes I have gone there a few times and its ok.

Great show that was... I thought Menswear were an excellent live band. most notably Johnny Dean as a performer and presence.

Good show, it seems like decades ago, it was a good era
uponchristian 2 years ago
This lot along with Shed Seven were the best of the Britpop bands.
vymmas 3 years ago 3
Surely the are the least respected band of that whole era.
