The comparison is not fair. The total population of Oman is less than that of Cairo.
It is a relatively rich country because of oil, but the wealth seems to be spread much more evenly. I did not see poverty at all. I saw instead a lot of beautiful new infrastructures, new and nice looking houses and what appeared to be a very well run place (the kind of things that do not push anybody toward extremism).
