This is the only video I've seen where the contestant runs out of time by accident (all the other ones were on $50,000+ questions where the contestant clearly let it run out on purpose).
Had this version used the British clock rules (where if you ran out of time, you get knocked down to the last safe level), he would have ended up with nada.
@sunnygrace57 that's true I guess there are exceptions..like Taylor Swift is from Pennsylvania...but still it would have pretty much been an educated guess.
@mecha03 You are absolutely right, but get this, in the clock format in the UK, instead of being forced to walk, you would drop down to the last safe haven the contestant has past
Oh Dear, seeing him run out of time on that question is bittersweet. I mean he flunked one of the first five questions, but still went home with $3,000. Huh, only like 1 contestant has every walked away in the first five questions.
Although I think the US clock of 2008-2010 and the current UK format shit all over Australia's hot seat format, one advantage with Hot Seat is that the answers appear one by one and the clock doesn't start until Eddie has read out the 4th answer.
That's what should've happenned in the US version and what should happen in the UK version. If it had been done that way, you wouldn't have scenarios where the host spends most of the countdown reading 4 lengthy answers (yes sometimes they're very long)
@bozza03 I kinda disagree about the UK version. Chris Tarrant reads the options really fast, sometimes I couldn't even understand what he said. Just my 2 cents.
@chumtea1111 thats the idea u cock. its more exciting to watch rather than them spending five minutes on one question. speeds up the process and gives more contestants a chance. hope this helps
Why the fuck would they ask something so stupid? This is a worthless pop-culture question. I hate those. I pride myself on knowing close to nothing about pop-culture.
It's just me, but I don't like the clock idea. It's just...I know it speeds up the pace of the game, but in all honesty, as it speeds the pace of the game, it forces the contestants to read the questions a little too quickly, and we know what that does to some people.
I'm glad that if you run out of time, you at least keep the money won from the last question, that part I am pleased about.
@mtiller2006 Between this, the new money ladder and removal of the Phone a Friend lifeline, This show is making more and more cost cutting moves each season to make the game harder and will ultimately be cancelled bacause of it.
A woman tried to ask the expert for her $5000 question on today's show. Luckily, she still had a few seconds left when Meredith told her that she couldn't use it yet.
Man this guy should of knew this one. I knew the answer without even knowing anything about Faith Hill. I knew she was from the south and thats where most country singers are born. If I knew it, he should have known it. Then again he forgot that he doesn't get the expert lifeline until u get 2 the $5000 mark
Mississippi Girl was his hunch, just wasn't confident about it. I would have had absolutely no idea because I have no idea who Faith Hill is... so I wouldn't have been as hesitant in using a lifeline >_>
This seems like it would have been a better question to ask the audience on rather than the expert. Did he already use his audience lifeline?
Where have you been man under a rock...LOL!!! Faith Hill is a very famous country singer. She's one of the greatest of all time. She's been around since '93. Over 15 years. She was on the Billboard.
Yeah he used the audience on a previous question. I've seen this on tv the other day. I didn't think he would get far but damn. At least he didn't walk away with nothing
Wow r u serious!? U don't listen 2 music at all. I hate 2 say this, but u sound like a boring person What do u do on your spare time? So, if I were 2 ask u about Jay-Z, Beyonce, Kanye West, Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, Motorhead, or Kid Rock, u wouldn't know anything about them.
Out of four lifelines, only three are available in Round One. 'Ask the Expert' is the one that *wasn't* on the table yet.
Ironically, that will change in January when 'Ask the Expert' becomes available on all 15 questions - but in return, the show is dumping the classic 'Phone a Friend' lifeline, citing expenses and what the producers call 'abuse' of that lifeline - we know it better as 'Googling'.
'SydnieBAM' - still controversial today, even while 'jumping the shark'.
Con: Time left on the clock when STC is used does not get banked towards the $1M Question, as is currently the case with the first 14 questions.
Pro: STC allows you to answer with no time limit. Perfect for questions involving math and nursery rhymes. Also ideal for guest host episodes where Meredith's understudy takes ten out of your 15 seconds reading the four answers.
@BritCanuck - Im from the UK and seen a lot of clips of this new format in the US like the graphics but the clock does suck! Our host (THEEE ORIGINAL HOST) often says "take your time" or "take as long as you need"
Now that I think about it - you're right. I think it was just due to the fact that alot of people (including myself) thought he was going home with zero.
I was in the audience for this episode. It was very awkward... at first he thought he was walking away with nothing, but then they checked the rules, and I guess they've changed them for this year. Although nothing was really explained to us!
Millionaire is a great show to see in person, if you ever get the chance.
Yeah, that's actually the first person I've seen other than the several contestants who have left empty-handed, who has left with less money than the value of the fifth question.
1. He's lucky that this wasn't the old money tree or else he would have $500!
2. He's only the second person ever to walk away (first out of time) on one of the first five questions (It happened once in 2005, but that was a willful walk.)
This is the only video I've seen where the contestant runs out of time by accident (all the other ones were on $50,000+ questions where the contestant clearly let it run out on purpose).
