how did the UP come up with the dicision to install concrtete ties through springfield IL and why did they raise train speed from 25 to 40 through the town?
it is for standard freight and amtrak passenger trains.
The ties are concrete, there was a drainage problem in that section. Although the replacement of track the whole length of the city has continued to be the use of concrete ties instead of the normal wood ties.

The full 3 day memorial weekend. It is the biggest operation most of the track crew have worked on in several years.
