I would consider this a flexible replacemwent for the rigid armor, I would still want some soft padding to back it up for energy absorption. The initial shock would lock this up, flowiing shocks would go thru this just like the same thickness of plastic- which has padding under it. Definately comfort enhancing, but not a does it all replacement.
Sry but they tested the D3O T5 Set here in Germany and it placed 10/11 with Rating 33/100 "failure". 3 of 4 categories the critical safety limit (35kN) was exceeded (shoulder, elbow, knee >35 kN) and in one category they nearly reached the maximum (hip 27,7 kN). No. 1 placed Safemax Premium with 87/100 "excellent". And the Value's reached were (shoulder 11 kN, elbow 13 kN, hip 10,2 kN, knee 8,7 kN) 1/3 of the force. Tested by the biggest german motorcycle magazine "MOTORRAD 06/2011 ".
I find it kind of scary that people just call it "intelligent molecules" as if that explains what they are... They aren't intelligent at all, they just react in a certain way to impacts...
Well when the armor is soft, it is very easy to flex and squeeze. When you hit it, it sounds like you are hitting a hard piece of plastic. I show that to customers all the time, when they do not believe it works.
@Makaveli25x - You could use plastic and get a similar effect, but plastic does not bend to your body, and some people do not like the bulkiness of it. When you are wearing the d3o armor you do not feel the bulkiness of it, it is very lightweight and it moves with your body.
@Makaveli25x Depends, Some football players use a padding that is no thicker than half an inch, they place that padding over a mans hand and hit hand with a sledge hammer. The impact is absorbed and spread evenly throughout the material before transferring that energy to the hand, so the whole hand feels the impact as oppose to just 1 spot, making the impact seem weaker. Basically hit your arm with a pen, then hit it with a spatula with the same force.. Spatula will hurt less, more surface area
He is not cringing. Obviously he cannot simulate a real motorcycle crash. The hammer just gives you a sample of how the armor reacts to impact. It instantly hardens. In its normal form the armor is soft and flexible. I did it to myself as well. It really does work. I suggest seeing it in person.
Notice how the second time he lays off the fingers. probably because he's cringing from the pain. How does hitting yourself with a hammer replicate anything that happens in a motorcycle crash?
@sugison In a crash you tuck and roll so you're not sliding and removing half your skin in the crash. When rolling your elbows, back, knees, hips etc are all impacted quite severely depending on the speed of the crash. (picture a cube rolling down a hill. Lots of hard impacts on the edges.)
what if somone shot it with a gun

@OldFlyingFox
3DO failed the test you say with "below average". More something for drive by shootings. It breaks anyway when hit real hard.

i mean, they don't have time to move between each other, to modify the structure

it's not that the molecules are freezing instantly, they just don't have time to react by shocks

lol you coulda used a piece of plastic it would have done the job and its not 300 bucks LOL
and i bet his fingers really hurt after that which is why he quickly stopped and didnt use much pressure either
