  • please im so sure that some dnb/jungle or maybe a hip hop artist sampled this... any1?

  • Its all so very sad! Even the music was telling us that we needed to head for a place in the future that would be safe for our children! Where are we now? Worryin if we are screwin enough.

  • oh yes, jessica, i rather have you, the ew&f girl. sorry to hear about her being ill, i hope she gets well.

  • this what music should sound like... I will never forget my old school music....

  • absolutely the best band assembled....ahead of their time

  • I love this song and this is one of my all time favorite albums. It was the raw, funky side of the Elements that made them the best band ever.

  • God please help sister Jessica recover in her illiness , in the mighty name of Jesus ,Amen.

  • DJ quik's "America'z most complete artist" samples the first 11 seconds...

  • The guitar work by Roland is great on this cut....

  • They used to rock this song in my college when it first came out!!! It was the Bomb!!! It still rocks now!!!

  • Only Al McKay could have replaced Roland!!Super Chop Masters!!

  • @ponchmaen Roland Bautista was the best rhythm guitarist of the 70's in my opinion and he could solo. It actually took Al McKay and Johnny Graham to replace Bautista. I own two of his solo albums-he should have stayed with EW&F. Their first guitarist was slick also, Michael Beale, never heard from him again after "The Need for Love"

  • @justatuch I preferred Eric Gale or Melvin "Wah-Wah Watson" Ragin (he played lead on the Temptations "Papa Was A Rolling Stone"), but I can understand where you are coming from.

  • @rayjr62 I appreciate those other two mentions on guitar-some of my favorite guitarists for that time-Jazzy,funky and melodic. I f we want to complete the 70's top list of guitarists , I've got two more for ya: Ray Parker Jr., and Ernie Isley. Get back to me if U agree.

  • @justatuch I agree...Roland was a great guitarist and neither Johnny or Al could play his rhythm breaks on this cut and "Time Is Own Your Side"....

  • Nice Art work...do u hear me now!!!

  • Roland Bautista : an unfairly ill-known ew&f guitar player. What is he up to now ?

  • This is an awesome jam with a strong, positive message! Let's all save the children!! Thanks, LamontCJ!!

  • this is another underrated album by EW and F...

  • Another great song no one can do it better than EWF you guys are the best

  • This is a very important song because today's children are growing up too fast, and they do not respect authority anymore. The parents are not being role models to their children anymore. The need to think about the welfare of the children because they are our future.

  • All who state that EWF, was finer in pre-75, you are correct and I agree. However, they were raw and funky-edgy. To become what they are, they needed to become smoother and more polished for radio and Mass Media. Today, they are like a corporate version of there former selves. But, that's fine. At least they're still active and great. Verdine, Phillip, Ralph, Andrew and Maurice is still the silent Godfather. I just wish they'd display a big pix of "Mo" onstage at each show. And, we know why.

  • this was MY Band in the 70's in wash dc, i mean early ewf with "time is on your side", Zannzibar, and all these tunes from last days and time. i remember first seeing them on don Kirshners "rock concert" they wore white robes and was funky , spiritual, they played "power" Next day i went out and got a kalimba... reminds me of the funk festivals of the 70's, weed, wine pouches, sharing and great music! wonderful times for music, unfortunately ewf has become a caricature of its former self, 2 bad

  • Re: About the Earth Humankind Education, by Billy Meier:

There is a fundamental problem in all countries and societies here on Earth:

    Education/upbringing (Erziehung).

The children are not taught to think properly and independently.

They are indoctrinated by religious and other belief systems.

They do not learn to ponder everything and to draw their own conclusions.

  • Instead of taking their self-responsibility, they are taught to rely on some outward force, be it God, the state, a Guru or some other power source.

If children learn to think logically and unrestrictedly, this will foster compassion (Mitgefühl, nicht Mitleid) for their fellow-human beings, the animals, plants etc.

The virtues have to be taught to the children at a young age, because only in this way do they learn to bear their own responsibility.

  • I used to have this 8-track tape many years ago.

  • sons the horn section sons

  • 1972 was a year such incredible MAGIC. I truly beleive that some unknown force was touching us simultaneously. I could make of huge list of breakthrough music Masterpieces in every genre from that year! And this Album fits right in with the best of them

  • Heard this tune in 73 on HS graduation day, really tat night, with a jizzy and a beer (Miller I think) inspired me to be a musician!Oh man those High times of my youth!!!!!!Froggy, CB, Dave, Iceis,Sir Neal, Robby, Rip Fatman the boys!

  • These cats always had such musical muscle... one of my fav. bands.

  • This was absolutely my thing in the early 70's. Jazz, Funk, Rock, Spirituality, Cosmic, Psychedelic, raw and Universal. It fit my world and I loved this early era of EWF. not the disco phase sorry.

  • You ain't the only one. I thought this was EWF at there best pre Thats the Way of the World album in 1975

  • I just discovered this song a year ago cuz my parents have a copy of this album. An unsung classic..and the horns kick azzzzzz.

  • dont forget she also sang with the friends of distinction too.

  • jessica cleaves is'nt doing too good now she's barely living she's very ill now she recorded an album with p funk but it's unreleased you can hear 5 tracks from george clinton's family series. but hey she did'nt miss out hell p funk blew up too around 75 and they competed over who was the better band. man jessica has an interesting bio she sang with ewf and p funk.

  • I am praying for Jessica's return to good health. Her voice had the same effect on me as Minnie Ripperton's. Though their range's and style was different, they both had that feel.

  • and dont forget she sang with the friends of distinctions too.

  • @michelle2837 was jessica cleaves in friends of distinction

  • @nocusblob I believe she was in that group, too! She's made a musical "mark."

  • @michelle2837 was jessica cleaves in the band friends of distinction?

  • @nocusblob Yep!

  • I never get tired of listening to this tune...Great music is like that...

  • this is some real bullshit i was born uninto sum diehard EW&F but this album wasn't in my popz 3500+ record collection he said this was during basic training so i picked it up ata garage sale along with some applerecord shit and some L.A.express and this record. andigot home and it was Jun Luc Ponty's "Indivuals Choice" so iwasntto mad all i had by him is Aura! but i still neva heard a single thing from this album enless somein from this1 is onthe 3boxset (Ilovethatboxsetitzmixedreallyclean)

  • Thank you ...for the post,I listen at this and remember my beloved cousins...Joyce and Bebe...Bebe introduced me to this song....Yes...

  • there is truly a message in the music thanks for posting

  • For me, considering the future should govern our actions today. EWF put it straight at us to peep. We're selfish and stingy spritually and it needs to stop. This cut was made over 36 years ago and is still relevant. LOL

  • LamontCJ you keep going back in time....All my partners that use to listen to this are long spread out across the USA Thanks again////

  • Thanks Bro, this is for all our lost partna's through our life. I have much regard for my runnin' boys'. Herm, Cornell, Larry C, Fatjack, Big Gert, Jimmy, RIP.

  • I love the guitar work by Roland Bautista on the whole album..Plus he co-wrote two of the songs , this song and "Time Is On Your Side"..

  • jESSICA cLEAVES WAS THE FEMALE ON THIS aLBUM. my LOVE.

  • I think that was established.

  • fogive me Lamont.

  • Thanx lamontCJ for posting this classic E.W.F..This is the real E.W.F. sound of the 70's. before they went to the smoke & mirrors pop sound.

  • As a fellow purist, I can relate to what you're saying but in the grand scheme, they had to evolve with a more pop sensibility with their music. Signing with Columbia records was a big deal and they were given unprecedented control and in a few years, have their own label, Kalimba Productions. They made a lot of money for Columbia primarily because they produced a marketable product. Pop sound, et al.

  • I don't think they went "smoke and mirrors" until the "Faces" LP which in my opinion had too many writers that just wrote the EWF sound and not really good songs..The album was OK , but after coming out with the monster album "I AM".."Faces" was a big let down..Funny thing though the next album , "Raise" , had some jazz elements and hard rock elements that were very interesting..However the pop tune "Let's Grove" was a statement of ..I need a hit record...

  • I concur my friend. Let's Groove was just that; & it brought on the "Smoke & Mirrors".

  • I would LOVE to see a live recording of this line-up when they were young and crazy (actually Verdine is still crazy , could you imagine if he was your dentist..???LOL )

  • Freein2339 that would be a real treat. If Verdine were any kind of doctor it would be like "Weird Science" !!! LOL.

  • Quality analysis. I feel that Maurice was under pressure to continue producing because Columbia held the purse strings for Kalimba Productions. Clive Davis left Columbia in 1984 so maybe the artistic expression took a back seat to greed.

  • Kudos to ya LamontCJ for posting Maurice and the gang, but I'm afraid to tell you that Clive Davis left Columbia in the early 1970's amid scandal. Walter Yerticoff was the head man at Columbia when that "Faces" album was released. (Yeah, I bought that 2-record set myself because of being an avid fan), but credit goes to Clive for signing the elements and recoognizing Gamble & Huff vision for Philly International.

  • I stand corrected. I meant 1974 when Clive left and if correct, I seem to remember Clive was implicated in some kind of payola type scandal that required his resignation. Thanks for the head's up! I encourage correction due to the fact that I am going on memory.

  • Great album.Does anyone know the name of the Lady who sang on here?

  • Jessica Cleaves was one of two females that sang with EWF. This LP and the next "Head to the Sky". Sherri Scott sang "I Think About Lovin' You" on their second LP "Need of Love"

  • jESSICA cLEVES

  • Yup, she was it. I wonder what would have happened if she remained/

  • Lamont...She went and joint Parliament-Funkadelic after this. I'm not sure what would have happened, but they say that she was frustrated that things were not taking off fast enough. She missed out...lol!!!

  • You ain't kiddin'

  • Maybe she was the reason why things weren't moving fast enough, talking about addition by subtraction!!

  • lol!!!...I think EWF's sound just took awhile to catch on. My cousin first saw them on PBS during a music showcase. After that she bought each album. I just cant see them with a female in the group from 1975 onward. If it aint broke don't fix it. I bet her and P. Bailey clashed...lol

  • I think they went at it a few times. Cleaves tried to hang with Bailey on high notes and thought to herself "Hell with this, I am gone!

  • lol..I wouldn't know because I wansn't born until'78. Funny to speculate though.

  • i heard she fell in love and got married while they were in tour

  • actually phillip bailey's wife crystal is in the band right now.

  • @rockjohnson80 yep ! but b4 she joined EWF & George Clinton she sang wit da FRIENDS OF DISTINCTION

  • Feelin it! High school days yeah!

  • Cali, you know the flavor!
