This was the first game I ever owned or the C64. I picked it out the day we bought our C64. I was about nine years old, I think. We had other computers and game systems before that, though.
@lucylovesguitar What computers/games systems did you own before the Commodore 64? I had the Commodore Vic20, Timex Sinclair 1000, Atari 2600, 5200, and before the 2600, a dedicated (no carts) Atari Video Pinball/Breakout console. I also had an Intelliviaion & Magnavox Odyssey 2, but can't remember if I had the before or after the C64. I love that there are emulators for all these vintage systems, so you can play them on your PC.
It's close calls like the one at 5:14 that really made this game for me. I played this game so much I could close my eyes and still see it. I played this game so much that I beat it... okay, i didn't beat it, but I got to the levels after these levels where you were permanently at slower and the enemies were at double speed. And I beat one level like that, thanks to gratuitous star screen and burning through the lives I had left.
This was one of my first VIC-20 games and I got so addicted to it back then, and when my cousin played it she screamed so loud everytime she'd hit a rat or cat or even just get close to a cat, she could be heard two blocks away (there were wide open spaces at our neighborhood then), and woke up our next-door neighbor. Ah the memories!
hahah oh man this must be the very first computer game I played. I can still remember the simple tune it had. I also had it as candrig that you plug in to c64, not the caset tape type.

Had this game too. Actually, it's a copy of Rally-X, but instead of the car catching flags, you are a mouse collecting cheese.

Google on "Vice c64", a freeware C64 emulator. Then Google on "radar rat race t64" to find the program you can run using Vice... voila.

Wow! I have a new found respect for my parents, who somehow managed to stay sane despite being tortured with this horrid music for hours on end.

Must have been one of the first C64 games ever released - the programmers at that stage didn't know jack shit about how to program it!
