  • that's some of the fastest "good sounding" shred I've heard in years....

  • Is it difficult to shred a strat? I'm getting one soon and wanted to know.. Thanks and niiiiiiiiiiiiice shredding. Happy shredding :D

  • @DescentFromHeaven I wouldnt say so. i use an american strat and i find its as easy to shred on as my ESP. if u get the right set up such as low action and low gauge strings it shreds just as nice as any other guitar. it works for Yngwie ;)

  • @7or6 my japanese strat is good too, granted it has a mexican neck a kahler and emg 85/SA/SA haha... so the only thing that is japanese is the body... lol

  • LOL, you play so fast that the camera can't keep up.

  • Killer! So clean!!

  • Awesome!

  • what kinda pickups do you have??

  • @fizzlefresh14 my pickups are stock in this guitar, though in my other strat I have a couple of the Fender noisless single coils!

  • @cgsweep wow ok, you have great shred tone

  • @fizzlefresh14 Thank you! This particular guitar has a nice growl to it! I believe the larger headstock and the fatter necks have alot to do with it!

  • Wow. With that kind of manual dexterity, you could actually play music if you wanted to.

  • @Maafa1619 lol, now why on earth would I want to do that!

  • @cgsweep I suppose that I took the fact that you are playing a fine Fender Stratocaster, as opposed to some pointy obscenity of a guitar, as an expression of a repressed unconscious desire.

  • @Maafa1619 lol! Nice! Yes, I do enjoy shredding and blasting out a bunch of notes when I can, although I do have a deep appreciation for the Stratocaster. I learned to play on one, and they present a feel and tone that no other guitar, pointy or otherwise can come close to.

  • malmsteen**

  • thats actually ma;msteen but the video is edited to have his face changed... XD... jkjk

  • Do you ever feel the need for more than 21 frets? How often does more than 21 frets come into use (I'm fairly new to playing)? The strat definitely has it's own sound, which I like, kind of that "clean, pristine distortion" tone. By the way, nice playing! Malmsteen fan?

  • @NomadRonin I do play an Ibanez with 24 frets and yes it is great to have that option of 24 frets however I have been playing strats for years and really don't have to alter much when playing with only 21 frets. If you need that high E you can bend the 21st a step and half and get that note and the agressive attack it takes to make that bend creats soe nie effects! Also you can "chime" notes an octave lower and attain the pitches that you get on the higher frets as well!

  • @cgsweep i am getting a strat and now own an Ibanez also. I wanted to ask how the feel of shredding on a fender is. Because i do have the ibanez to practice on but when i get the fender i want to do a little bit on that guitar too.

  • @jmannunez they really are different beasts! A strat is more difficult to shred on because of the the neck had a radius that though I prefer does not lend itself to super shredding. Also the frets I have are not that big so again not condusive for shredding. Ibanez's are built for speed with the flat neck and large frets! I have a few that I love playing! Having said that I find shredding it up on a strat a great challenge and I love the result because tthere is nothing quite like it!

  • @NomadRonin There's HONESTLY not much of a need for more than 21.... Michael Angelo Batio has a guitar that has 30, and it really just allows for more higher notes.. Someone who likes to shred highs like me would love it xD

  • What amp/gear besides the Strat are you playing through? Excellent tone...

  • @yjmsrv Thank you! On this video I believe I was running my Line 6 2.0 through my studio monitors! Normally however I play through Marshalls. JCM 800's being my favorite running through vintage 30 greenback celestions. I love the Strat/Marshall combo!

  • Hey!! dude i was thinkin to buy an ibanez JS but i prefer an strat. but i play things like petrucci, satriani and Vai do you think that with a fender strat i can do that stuff?

  • @kingmonster12 I play an Ibanez as well and I must say that playing the Petrucci/Satriani style material feels more natural on an Ibanez mainly because they are built for speed, flat necks and bigger frets. A strat has more of a radius and smaller frets making it more difficult for real over the top stuff however I think it is possible to attain that style on a strat and tonal wise it is much more rewarding!

  • how did you develop your alternate picking

  • @PIMPZproduction I started with basic finger exercises, 3 note and 4 note perstring chromatic ideas. However I found that running the modal shapes (3 note per string) in all keys has helped me the most! I also use my metronome or drum machine to work on saying in time with my picking!

  • Dude...are you wearing a cape?

  • @Fenderplayer2 Lol! No, but now that I am looking at this it does look like I am! Eesh! It's a rather large black suede shirt that I got from Big and Tall years ago when I was much larger!

  • @cgsweep Lol, ah cool, but getting a cape wouldn't be such a bad idea.

  • I need to know that tapping lick you did.

  • @0kill13 I remember that lick! 6th string hammer 7-8fret then 5th string hammer 7-10 fret then tap the 14 fret on the 5th string, it spells a cmaj 7 arpeggio, then carry that same shape up two more octaves!

  • @cgsweep so a cmaj7 arpeggio? damn i have this guitar scales app on my ipod and it tells me all the notes and what frets they're on and tells me chord shapes too. i've invented some cool licks using that app, but your lick was just genius bro (the lick beginning at 2:09). was that your original lick or something, its so simple yet awesome.

  • @0kill13 wait sorry the lick beginning at 2:10-ish

  • G..G....Go..God? is that you?!

  • I never knew peter jackson could shred. Great work!

  • i say 20" radius with about 2/64" action E to E with some .055" frets..... that's the only way he can play THIS fast :P

  • you are good :) for a sec i pictured myself being u how i play now to when im your age and thats how itll be with scale runs

  • I loved the part at 0:51 :D I'd really appreciate it if you'd give me some tabs or something so I could add it to my playing library :)

  • @OfficialHollow the lick at 0:51 is based on a two string sweep idea: 17th fret 2nd string then sweep down to 17th fret 1st string, then repeat that same note with an upstroke and then up sweep back to the 17th on the 2nd string, it will be a 16th note figure. I then keep the 17th fret on the 2nd string as my pedal and change the notes on the 1st string depending on the key! Keep in mind the technique is down down up up through out the entire concept!

  • Is this just an american standard strat? Or any mods to it? i plan on getting a new american standard hss but not sure if itll keep up with shred stuff like john petrucci, vai, satriana etc.

  • @MichaelLozano12 hello!, no mods to this one, all stock

I had a few HM strats back in the day and loved them! Wouldn't mind getting one again!

  • @cgsweep thanks man, great playing!

  • what string gauge do you use bro?

  • @jayabass on this video I am using .11's thru .49';s

  • @cgsweep thanks bro, it sounds massive, keep rockin'. You're an awesome player!

  • 0:49 sounds so epic!

  • I love that Fender round vowel sound you get. great stuff!

  • how did u learn how to do that man fucking hell! :D

  • Good stuff cjsweep; loved the tone.

  • I have been playing the guitar for about 9 years now and i still don't get how anyone can shred with feeling? Shredding is just showing off / wanking on a guitar. So....shredding with feeling doesn't exist? Help me out here

  • @spudvader86 Your just jealous that you cant shred.

  • @XxDavidxXPantera If i wanted to learn to shred then i will but it doesn't fit in with the idea of what i think that guitar should sound like. It's booooring

  • @spudvader86 you dont listen to the right shredders

  • @Seandude223 that maybe true. Can you suggest anyone?

  • @spudvader86 Joe Satriani and John Petrucci. If you don't like them, then shredding just may not be your thing. Hope this helps! :)

  • Are those the stock pickups?

  • @qwecars yes, the pickups in this strat are stock. On my main strat however I have started using noisless pickups for live playing. Those videos can be seen on my other page cgsweep! Thanks

  • @cgsweep Wow, I'm really surprised by your tone! What kind of setup are you using? Cause when I try to "shred" using distortion with the stock single coils on my american strat, it ends up sounding to thin for some reason.

  • @qwecars On this video I was running my strat through a Pod I believe into my studio monitors, but I also remember the start had .11's on it wich attributed to the thicker tone.

  • dude that ruled seriously i cant really say anything else that was fuckin awesome

  • dude that was totally awesome I plan to be as good as this one day, meanwhile I will have to keep practising, thanks for the inspiration.

  • que transicion de dedos mas buena!!

  • Beautiful tone.

  • A strat is all you need man, a '62, to be more specific!

  • very cool playing do you like malmsteen at all.

  • that's some of the fastest speed picking(aka sweep, economy) I've ever heard...

  • is shredding on a strat as easy on any other guitar. caus i want one but i dont want it hard to play stuff like that

  • @Jjjj187 If you wanna shred easy, pick up an ibanez...those are basically effortless to play....but the sound lacks unless you just play metal/shred.

  • You're a natural, its like you were a classical virtuoso in your previous life

  • Was that some Rusty Cooley you just played? Nice job man!

  • very imressive my friend!

  • Awesome. Very good shred, sir.

  • TEACH US PLEASE!!!

  • @dieandgoaway

Hello! Thanks for all the kind words I do appreciate them! I am available for online guitar instruction if interested!

  • @cgsweep I'll take a wild guess and say you probably learned that right hand muting technique in the same place i did...uhhh George Bellas much?? and the whole idea for online instruction...Tom Hess maybe? Anyway, great playing, keep it up man, sounds really good to me : )

  • boring

  • @GlowBug

    What do you mean?

  • wow r u picking every note?

  • this is why i am trying to learn the chromatic scale, and sweeping.

  • @superkellerman8D

Are you fucking kidding me? How do you learn the chromatic scale?

  • Wow, you are FUCKING amazing. Considering this video is 37 months old, you probably won't take account of this, but holy shit, you're probably better in many ways by now.

I'm fucking jealous to shit, man. FUCK.

  • I now truly understand the concept of jealousy.

  • I now truly understand the concept of jealousy.

  • ok im gonna go and practice now. im tired of hoping and fantasizing i can do this. i will do this!

  • That was sick dude! Any tips on sweeping? You do it so perfectly smooth.

    (That's what she said)

  • Who knew John Malkavich could shred.

  • Very nice mate, fast as fuck but not just mindless shredding, starts sound awesome i've always wanted one

  • im not usually a fan of this stuff, but that was lovely

  • i love fender and ur shredding.

  • This bastard can play!

  • crazy ass sweeps

  • very amazing technique, but all same things...

  • Love it, and sickeningly clean. Perfect picking, and nice note selection. Killer, apb

  • Awesome dude! I just put up a strat shred, nothing like this masterpiece!

  • ur one of best players on youtube

  • Amazing, wish I could say I was as talented as that.

  • Swweet Dude Ur Gd luvvin it

  • Great playing man! Shred is FUN =)

  • awesome you are great at guitar!

  • thank you thumbvideos123 for the kind words!!

  • I would say that your style is mostly infuenced by George Bellas...

  • You play very well brother but youve been devoured by malmsteen influence.

Time to take your talents into "fresh areas".

    still brovo non the less..

  • Insane! The picking is unbelievable, man..

  • dude you kick ass !!

  • hi is will from SOR WIlmington (taz)

  • Curious as to amp/pedal settings on this.. Very nice..

  • hello wedge070! thanks for the kind words! i was actually running through my line 6 pod 2.0 right into my board and through my studio monitors. the setting i believe was the brit high gain and some compression. i believe the strat was outfitted with d'addaio .11's. live i am running peavy vk100 heads and various peavy and marshall cabs. live pedas vary and usually include an ibanez fat cat distortion and a morley bad horsie wah

  • dude...this made me want to give up guitar... haha i think u just kicked yngwes ass

  • Hello GulfCoasta09! Thank you! I hope you do not give up guitar my friend!!

Yngwie has ben a huge influence on me and I thank you for the kind words!!

  • btw, may I ask twat is your setup?

  • hey bergaminvideos, thanks for the kind words! my setup in this video i believe was my strat here going through a old line 6 pod, set to the brit high gain setting. currently i am using peavy vk 100 heads and various peavy 4x12 cabs a bad horsie wah pedal and thats about it

  • *gasp*

    epic win

  • whoa. how do you do that on 11's?? Awesome.

  • thats gotta be an awesome strat dude. ive tryed shredding and sweeping on the ones i had and i just couldnt do it. lol

  • dude you obviously are passionate about guitar respect

  • um so 1. who are you. 2. what planet you from. 3. where can i find your cd.

  • Sweeping hurts my beagles ears. Strats are a gift from the Gods. They are meant to be fondled and not raped. Nice sound though, kinda the Malmsteen doing Satch feel going on

  • wow that is some shredding i can appreciate, unlike the kids who just play minor pent up and down all day long without any feel or good tone, :) i love strats...if i playd guitar i would get 1 :)

but i play bass =[ so fender p bass does the job for me <#

    <3 fender

    <3 loved ur vid

  • @samsaccountyea he is able to link all the different scale positions together and obviously play anywhere on the neck.

  • @samsaccountyea

I agree 100%. Nothing really compares to the natural rock sound of a strat being shredded. If I played guitar I would get a strat too. But I play bass and I own a fender p bass. But it would be nice to own a jazz someday.

  • this is how a strat should sound like when shredding! round and easy on the ears!

  • this guy is my teacher for skool of rock and he is sooooooo fucking amazing

  • Crazy as hell, if I could do that, I'd be doing that all day, just wankin up and down that fretboard

How do you have your guitar setup man (action/strings)?

    Thanks

  • Hello visiting 31! Thanks!

On this video I was using Daddario .11's with a relative low action, enough hieght to prevent fretting out on any bends that is.

  • Great, great job man...

  • what is your setup? amps? Pedals?

  • on this video, i believe i was using a pod through my board, on the brit high gain setting. live i use the peavy vk100, peavy 4x12cabs, and a morley wah, thas about it

  • Crazy...

  • Not really my sort of thing but I gotta say your technique is Awesome.

  • thanks matrags, i appreciate it!

  • i played a evh like strat(fender) to day at long and mcquade and i loved it!running through a line 6 and a evh flanger pedal of course.

  • strats blow. but this guy is ok. love the polkadot penis bandanna doo rag

  • Chris Gordon's picking and arpeggios are so clean and fast that i can hear heterodyning in this clip between 2 or more or his picked (or swept) notes.

  • good picking and scale runs but you forgot the melody lol

  • Yeah I was thinking the same thing on my strat , I want to still maintain the strat tone. I was thinking the HS-3 in bridge and YJM in middle and neck. Typical Yngwie set up. What do you think?

  • The hs3's are good, and I may have to put them n my strats as well. I did a show recently at a club and when we started sound check I realized that the club was not grounded at all! My 60 cycle hum was more like 120! It was unreal, so though the show was great I realized that I had better do something about the pickups!

  • awesome tone , can you tell me what pickups you are using , i am going to be upgrading my strat with new ones and i like your tone.

  • Hello coastercrazy2007! Believe it ir not the pickups in this strat are stock. I have been thinking about some DiMarzio stacked pickups to do away with the 60 cycle hum but maintain that strat tone

  • are you a wizard?

  • Actually reminds me of Vinnie Moores playing with Yngwies tone

  • Brilliant! There are a lot of people who think they can play in the neo classical style but can't. Not so here, well done from someone who can play a bit too. Great to listen to

  • Thank You! I appreciate the kind words!!

  • Watching this video over, the only thing I'm noticing now is the facial expressions that say "this lick is just too slow and easy to me that it's just about wasting my time." Dude, as soon as I'm done typing this I'm gonna go kick my dog and give up playing guitar...*sigh*...you make it look waaay too easy man, waaaaaaaaay too easy...

  • Lol!! Awesome! Thanks!

  • Holly Shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • nobody has the right to be that good

  • O_O

Absolutely... mesmerizing... Can't... stop... watching! So... amazingly good! Unstoppable!!!

  • Thanks!! I appreciate the kind words!!

  • Mixture of Vinnie Moore and Yngwie. Brilliant!

  • snowed in? you must live in the North Pole and have been snowed in for life to be able to play like that, excellent playing even though you look bored and probably just widdling, well done very clean picking!

  • Thanks! I apprecuate the kind words!!

  • Very clean, very fast, not much in the way of a pace change but very good over all!

  • Fantastic!

  • Yeah man! what strat is that?? you rock..!

  • Hey svartablixten, Thanks for the lind words!

The strat is a Mexican 70's reissue

  • Hey mr. cgsweep! what guage of strings do perfer for this kind of playing? (I wish I was that fast, I use d'addario exL 115 (.011)

  • Hey Chewy2284! Thanks for the kind comment!

For this video I was using D'addario .11's. Great tone and response when picking! Latley I have been using D'addario .009's for more legato phrasing and longer playing sessions!

  • you are one of the cleanest players i've heard. those sweeps are just incredible

  • Hello GKboards!

Thanks for the kind words!! I do appreciate it!!

  • That was amazing, nicely done.

  • Thanks Chiger23! I appreciate it!!

  • Holy s***, this is amazing. Crazy sweeping skills, great shredding, extremely accurate picking... man, you're a master. Such a great sound. respect

  • Hello Lyfthrasyr! Thanks so much for the kind words!!

  • what do you prefer more: alternate picking or economy picking and what type of picking are you doing in this vidoe?????plz reply

  • It depends on the tone and the styl I am playing..Alternate picking gives me a nice aggressive tone that leaps out in the mix however I love the smooth liquid effect of sweeping so I use both, In this video I am utilizing alot of sweepiing/economy picking on the scales and arpeggios. I like having an equal combination of both techniques

  • Smokin'!!!

  • holy shit how did you learn to play liek that?? i want to be able to do that.

  • Hey Nofuture91! Thanks for the kind words!!

For me it was a steady diet of Yngwie, George Bellas, and a ton of repitition on the guitar!!

  • Great work. I'm a superstrat player myself (vintage Kramers and Charvels), but I'm thinking about that new American Standard Strat. How do you feel about tonal characteristics the Strat's pickups have when shredding, compared to say a JB or SD humbucking superstrat? I hear that bite single coils have and that glassy Strat tone too, and it does sound like a nice alternative.

  • Thanks bro!!

I love the strat tones for shredding, they are clean and unforgiving in a way but the results are awesome and every note is right there! I love the humbucking tones as well and play a variety of those as well however for the more neo classical stuff I always go back to my strats because there is something about the way that hey sit in the mix that just appeals to me. Check out my myspace page and there is a tune called Abigail's Crossing, it is my main strat on that track!

  • could u tell me what scales were u using there buddy? thnx

  • I am using primarily the Aeolian mode on this improvisation though I do incorperate the Harmonic Minor and some dimished arpeggio ideas based off of the raised 7th degree of the Harmonic Minor scale.

  • definately on par with malmsteen in my opinion. i hope you're a professional musician, with chops like that. if not, you could be!!

  • hey bro! thanks for the kind words!! yngwie is a huge influence on me and yes i am a full time musician and i do love it!!

    thanks again!!

  • yeah, dude, this guy is insanely clean.

  • Все круто, но такое ощущение, что дяденьке вообще наплевать на тех, кто его будет слушать... бесчувственно...зачем это все?... не знаю, может это он разыгрывался так. Ну тогда это нереально круто :)
