Furthermore, the segregation of males and females in these situations is unfair to begin with. Men and women are not equal, but should have equal opportunities, including in competition. If someone with ovaries loses against someone with testicles, they should admit defeat and find a competition that they can win without finding excuses to exclude their best rivals.

This argument of a competitive advantage is complete nonsense. We dont segregate athletes by height. Any elite athlete has a competitive advantage, or otherwise they wouldnt be an elite athlete. She's a woman who happens to have a birth defect and the fact that this has gotten so much publicity is disgusting, especially when this has happened in sports in the past and where atheletes upon discovering this disorder and the stigma of others have attempted suicide. Shame on them.

This argument of a competitive advantage is completely reasonable. The rules are arbitrary but they have to be drawn somewhere and I think biological sex is a good start. For most athletic competitions its simply gender divisions and substance abuse, for others they take into account weight. I agree that the publicity is horrible and intersexed individuals should not have a stigma attached to them but don't go overboard and say she doesn't clear advantage.

Semenya's condition was unbeknownst to both semenya & her family. Semenya didn't deliberately set out to compete unfairly. There was no intention to cheat, just a very complex set of events unfolded as a result of semenya's ever increasing talent. It was only through this that what semenya really is could have ever been revealed. At 18 yrs old semenya should be offered some compassion atleast, counselling too. We're bein told even b4 semenya is. Thats pretty cruel.

These people are as illiterate about CS condition as her family. As a medical professional I can say with 100% accuracy that in cases where an individual is born with reproductive organs of both sexes, there is a very specific protocol that is followed so that the child is raised properly according to the sex that is determined to be in the best interest of the individual. It is not just a case where the parents can say, "well we raised her as a female, therefore she is a female."

Normally, what is done, is tests are performed to determine which of the two sexes is in the best interest of the child based on the results of those tests. In CS case, the fact that he apparently has testicles means that his genetic make up is closer to that of a man than that of a woman. Since his parents apparently decided to raise him as a female, why were the internal testicles not removed and female replacement hormone therapy not started?

Estrogen, the female hormone would be manufactured by the ovaries. Since he does not have ovaries, he has been receiving testosterone which the testes produce. What should have happened years ago, is the testicles would have been removed and female hormone replacement therapy would have been started so that he developed more like a female rather than a male.
